Well after getting the car registered on Thursday Last week. The engine pretty much went bang on Saturday arvo, first thought it was a gearbox problem due to some serious clutch slipping. But we soon found out later it was quite serious and ended up being a number of things going wrong.

Anyway the engine is being re-built by Dan (3lite 32) and should be back tougher than ever (not giving to much away yet).

Anyways here's a few pics.

Just a couple from Thursday Night.

we assumed a gearbox issue cause the knocking was faint to begin with and was near where the flywheel, but as the knocking got worse we did figure it was internal.

Yes it was a fresh re-build, but unfortunatly some parts which i assumed to be in there werent. The clutch was supposed to be a near new exedy heavy duty clutch, it wasnt. Just dont think it was re-built properly, cause either A. the mechanic wanted to save some $$$ or B. Couldnt careless.

Also cause it was a stock bottom end, also believe it wasnt built right to take the power the turbo would produce, even on such a low boost setting.

But i know now it will be built right and properly this time.

are u going back to see the guy u bought it off and have a word to him, i would, and take dan with u and get him to say what he saw when he pulled the motor apart. dodgy farker!!!!! id ask him where all the supposed parts were that he has supposibly put in the engine..... just put him on the spot and see what he says. and threaten him with legal action. (even if u are bull shitting)

Ok just a few things.....

I did not consent to the arse shots!....and I wasn't scratching.

It was very bad luck on Ben's part. I felt very bad for him because it had only been done a few weeks prior. I don't know that there was anything wrong with the bottom end to begin with but may have something to do with some spirited driving 600k's after the rebuild was done (very naughty), however a good engine should not have let go so easily. I am going to help Ben out as much as I possibly can with the rebuild as far as cost is concerned. Any help from others will be greatly appreciated so if you have anything which you may not need and you think it may help, just PM me or Ben to offer. Parts mainly.

    • I am yet to see anyone ever regret a quaife or helical. ...other than drifting/skidpan duties. I kind of want to upgrade my factory helical with a Quaife (but really it's not ultimately that different, and is a MASSIVE UNDERTAKING), that's how good the hype is about them, that I want to try them 'just to see'
    • D2 and Ksport are essentially the same thing and basically just generic Taiwanese manufacture. Better than ChinaBay crap, but... not top shelf. Öhlins have got to be some of the best dampers around, so likely to be a good option. It's going to get to the point though where I suggest you buy from Oz. We have at least 2x excellent options here. If I were you though, I'd be talking to KW about doing something for the R33. There's bugger all difference between that and the 32. In GTR land, anyway.
    • KW only offers a set for the R32 GTR. Popular options are D2 racing, Ksport or Öhlins. I have a D2 Racing coilover set, though I don't know for sure which one.
    • Well, the good news is you have more than one very good option for new coilovers in and around your country. Worth the drive over to KW to talk about GTR stuff.
    • Fair enough, I am in no way a tire expert so I'm not familiar with all the terms and conditions. I'll definitely note down the AD09 to potentially try in the future. Rain is not too big of a concern for now as I will probably only drive in the rain when I have to. And considering I still lack experience driving the GTR I'd more than likely take it easy too. I have coilovers in the car but as I barely got to drive so far I never bothered to even check if they are adjustable haha. The suspension is almost entirely old and worn as well so I suppose when I eventually fix that in the future that would make a huge difference.
