just want to know what rpm max boost is reached and what front they have on it

Hey mate

The VL turbo and bigger FJ20 turbo uses the .63 size which is on the bigger side of average for T3. Some come in .48 etc etc.

Boost will come on much later because of the bearings and wheel designs.. sometimes up to 3300rpm or later.

Your better off staying away from the T3 style turbo's as they usually make your skyline slower then what the standard turbo can offer (old trim types and bush bearings)

I put a VL turbo on my car with a T4 front wheel with a .64 rear housing and it made the car slower.

So be carefull when playing with these types of turbos on skylines.. I would go for a GCG highflow or a HKS style BB turbo for best results.

i think it will boost real real quick, then it'll choke up top due to not enough flow through the exhaust.. just what i think will be the outcome.

remember that the rb30 has more exhaust gases due to the increased capacity.. so the 5000rpm example would be lower on a RB30DET

yeah exactly... but no mention of cams..

i have the 1.12 housing on a HKS GT3040 on a std rb25 with tomei cams.. im getting full boost at 4700rpm

where as i have seen a GT30 turbo with a 0.84 reach full boost at the same rpm without cams..

Col - thats what im hoping to get full boost at once my rb30 is finished.

if your building an engine and have very detailed specs and plans why would u rely on guess work for the turbocharger? dont choose an unknown spec t04 old skool compressor. learn to read compressor maps, work out what airflow you'd like depending on your application and choose a turbo that suits your requirements. that will take out the guess work and disappoint of a sucky combination (read expensive and lacking what you want). but imho the rear sounds too small, i'd expect it to come on instantly and drop off very quicky.

    • Hope you aren't too sore after that one, might take a day or 2 to notice yet and I guess it is a loooooong drive home. On the bright side, tube frame front end is a thing at superlap, right?

    • The chart of front pressure to rear pressure (with one being on the x axis and the other being on the y axis) is not a straight line on a typical proportioning valve. At lower pressures there is a straight line with one slope, and at higher pressures that changes to a lower slope. That creates a bend in the line at that pressure, called the knee point. If you do not change the proportionng as the pressure gets higher, you will suffer excessive pressure (at one end of the car or the other, depending on which way you look at the proportioning action) and then get lockups at that end. The HFM BM57, from my memory of previous discussions, is based on the BM57 from a different car (to a Skyline), with a different requirement for the location of the knee point and the distribution of pressure front to rear, and so is not a good choice for an upgrade on a Skyline. Here's a couple of links to some old posts, one from here, one from elsewhere. A lot of it pertains to adjustable prop valves, but the idea is the same. There are plenty of discussions on here about this issue from al the many years of people wanting a cheap/accessible option. https://grassrootsmotorsports.com/forum/grm/learn-me-brake-proportioning-valves/236880/page1/ https://grassrootsmotorsports.com/forum/grm/learn-me-brake-proportioning-valves/236880/page1/
    • Yeah dunno why johhny posted that here with no context, just post on FB/insta bro where he put it up?  Laine had an off at T4 during Thurs prac, he's ok, car is less than perfect, they are done for the weekend, he can fill in the rest. Bando also binned it like 100m up the road.
    • I feel there must have been a FB/insta post and the weekend did not start well at all I hope everyone is all okay
