ok, so my car officially has no rev limiter, it goes all the way just past 8 grand (before i back off cos im scared she'll blow!). im 99% certain the taco is accurate as i hooked up a SnapOn diagnostic comp and it read the same. also went for a drive sunday and there doesn't appear to be a speed limiter. just wonderin if anyone has experianced this and they know why.

second thing, little while back went for a massive 1 and a half hour drive about an 1hr of hard driving and now im gettin a metal on metal sound like a scrap, periodically. sounds like its coming from the front left hand wheel. Possible break issue? i haven't experianced any lack of performance in any area since the noise started. so i got clues. any help would be great guys.

My Old R33 had a HKS F con V Pro piggy back type ECU. At one stage I removed the F Con and just ran off what I thought was a factory ECU. Anyway it turned out that that ECU had no rev limiter or speed cut either and had obviously been modifed. I'm guessing yours had been modified the same for what ever reasons.

The metal on metal noise could be brakes, could be faulty shock absorber, could be your rim scrubbing on your coil over etc ... could be anything reall.y best thing to do would pull your wheel off and check for scrape marks as metal tends to leave an obvious mark.

the metal on metal sound is you running into the guard rails because you cant handle the extra rpm and speed.

Get a clue!

hhahah

gee thanks for that i'll keep it in mind..... yeah i was thinkin maybe the turbo as well, cos when i hooked up the manual boost controller to the actuater line there was a bit of oil run. now as far as i know with my limited knowledge, having oil in the turbo might not be best sign of a healthy turbo. But then again as i said before, haven't lost any boost what so eva, gonna get the brakes done early next week and see what happens. also yeah checked the ECU its factory doesn't look like its been modified at all, is there anythin to look for?

otherwise cheers at least i know im not alone.

i had a similer sound coming from my 32 a while ago, turned out to be a very thing peice of metal on my brake pads that gently rubs on the discs basiclly lets u kno ur pads are getting low. they call em squiller pads or sumthing.

an concerning ur ecu they may have just cut the wires, i kno The wire is yellow/green with a silver trace is the speed limiter. check this website out an read a few things on there u may be able to locate the problem.

Sounds like your brakes are prolly just getting low after the thrash. If you look thru the wheel you should be able to see the outer pad. The bit between the backing and the disc is the brake material. Normally if a turbo is going you will hear a shrill noise when you come onto boost (terrible noise). They do tens of thousands of RPM so its too fast to sound like a scraping noise.

Hope i helped.

    • Oof, I will forevermore have those shredded gears in mind whenever someone talks about showing mechanical sympathy towards their car. Thanks for the photos, fascinating stuff!

    • The holdups last year were drivetrain related. I had the car out right after getting the bearing issue resolved. Third launch and the car didn't move after releasing the clutch. It had sheared all the engagement teeth off the 1st gear.    Thankfully no other damage was done. I set an aftermarket gear beside an OEM gear and found that the engagement teeth on the OEM gear were much larger and better supported. Looking through my bin of spare transmission gears I found that there are two types of tooth on the OEM first gears - the larger tooth and the smaller tooth. It looks like most aftermarket gearset manufacturers base their design on the smaller tooth. OEM large tooth left - Speedtek, OS Giken, etc or OEM small tooth right Decided to give that larger engagement tooth a try. Pressed the ring off an OEM gear and sent it to a transmission manufacturer here in the States. They did their "faceplating" operation with my synchro ring on the Speedtek gear.   I reassembled it, took it back to the track and promptly destroyed the gear itself.  I'll rebuild this and use it as a spare - thankfully just first gear and the countershaft are damaged beyond repair. Definitely disheartening but my welded on engagement tooth ring held up!  Moved to Speedtek's dog engagement design as the gears appear to be much stronger. So far they have taken much more abuse at the track. Also scored a Stillway lockout from the Netherands for super cheap. It's for some other RB transmission so it took a bit of fabrication to fit but honestly a very easy job. I also had to heavily modify the gates as they were very different.   Then for some reason at the last test and tune a silicon coupler below the throttle blew off and took out the radiator and fan. Thankfully it was in the burnout box and not down track. This car is really beating me up - I still haven't made a pass in it. Ran it through the gears many times on the street but it keeps biting me at the track.  Currently in the process of replacing the radiator and remaking the throttle pipe to remove the coupler and use a cast 90 and a vband. I WILL get this thing down the track...
    • Covers most of the above points really. There's a few exceptions but most just see driving as an irritating but necessary task they must complete if they want to get anywhere on time. Also see it as a good time to show their awesome multi-tasking abilities on their mobile and/or doing their makeup.
