hey people,

i have an r 33 series 2 that i purchased recnetly, and i am looking at upgradeing the turbo. my ideal power output at the end of the buildup would be atleast 300 rwkw to maaaaaby 350. i want a turbo that isnt super laggy as i dont want the car to be a one trick pony, id like a versitile ride. the two turbos that i am thinking of purchasing are a gt35-40 or a TD07. if anybody could give me any advice concerning the turbos or any suggestions at all in regards 2 my topic it would be much appreciated

cheers

ardie

300rwkw - 10k before you even get started\

GT35 - if you want laggy... thats a good way to go on RB25.

If you dont have that money (10k), settle for 250rwkw now.

that will make a fast street car. Get you an low 12 @ the 1/4 mile.

300rwkw+ isnt cheap.

Then you break something (ie, stock motor) and its more expensive again

$$$ isnt an issue, as i always say, if your going 2 do something, do it right. im not just going 2 bolt on a big turbo and leave stock internals, i plan on making an engine that is reliable and powerful while also versatile. im lucky in that i have a reasonably large income and very low cost of living as iv deferred from uni in order 2 build up this car and get it over and done with within the year. (yes! im a geek and still live with my parents lol.....well atleast i live with them for the few months that they are in the country/state)

My 310rwkws owes me about 3.5g? whats the 10g for?

Smart man.

I got a high mount manifold, and 50mm wastegate off ebay came with a shit turbo for 400bucks, manifold is tuned length stainless and is doing great, wastegate is working perfectly, went out bought a gt35r made an adaptor and put it on. Got 250rwkws at 10psi and I am currently sitting on 16psi for 310 rwkws.

First step buy a gtr... :P

rb25

$10,000 howto

ecu 1400 tuned

injectors 700

clutch 1200

airflow meter 350

turbo 2500

manifold 1100

fmic 1000

boost controller 300

exhaust 1200

leaves 250 for other misc stuff

gt30 or gt35r and a suitable manifold (excluding gate)

its still 8k then for a safe setup. and it will be laggy as all hell.

280rwkw is safe for standard internals. also it will be either bog the dog or wheelspin city, so average power will suck as it will come on like a freight train when it does. your much better off with more usable (lower) average power

a 260rwkw tpo 280rwkw setup will have more average power, less lag, less stress on internals and most likely be more fun to drive and faster overall as its power is more progressive and wont feel empty till it hits like 4800rpm which IMHO is lag city. a hiflow should come on just past 3k and be ideal as far as a quick street car

oh yeah i got suspension and brakes already 2 (car came 2 me from japan with a few little goodies) but u do make a good point, i just want something thats a little different, there seems 2 be alot of people in mid 2 high 200s but few with 300

There i always one ;)

Ok...

You are comparing RB25 with RB26... you better stop trying to do that or you gonna look a bit silly mighty fast.

How in gods name does that equal 3.5k? Have you done

Clutch? $1500

ECU? $1100/tuned/$1500

Injectors? $900

Thats over 3.5k and you havent even purchased you "ebay special" parts yet.

So suddently your 3.5k is now 7k... what a surprise that is.

I dont think i need to get into the whole e-bay "special" parts as have so many others.

Simple case is yours might work, the rest more than likely wont.

Ardie - if you seriously want a solid street performer look for a turbo around the 500hp mark

3037/3071 etc. GT30 (500hp versions). GCG hi-flow

This will get you close to 300rwkw, but the response & mid-range of the car will be second to none.

Best of all, they have been solidly covered on this forum time and time again

I had the biger 600hp GT30 on my RB25. It was great... but having since been in smaller turbod cars like Bass Junky with 250rwkw/GCG hi-flow.

Going for a little less (for a street performer) is the way to go in a RWD car

300 rwkw to maaaaaby 350. i want a turbo that isnt super laggy as i dont want the car to be a one trick pony, id like a versitile ride

well you can't have both im afraid, there is no way possible you will 300 to 350 without lag and it being a trick pony.

as i said it will ever be lag city then wheelspin when its on or bog the dog, theres no inbetween as the housing and wheel will be just too damn big for that power output, so once it dials itself into effiency youll go from 80rwkw to 220rwkw in a few seconds (wheelspin)

hmm yeah im leaning 2wards the g3040 given the reccomendations, because the cars gonna b mainly 4 crabwalking, but i want something that can also own a few unsuspecting 5 ltrs. thanks alot 4 the opinios, and please keep them coming, they r reallly helping

    • Am I correct in assuming that the R35's are getting the classic skyline haircut off the odometer?  Quick search on carsales, there are 33 08 and 09 GTR's for sale, only 2 of them have more then 100,000km's on them (116,075 and 110,000 respectively).  And somehow there are about 25 for sale with around 60,000kms? Looks like the classic skyline haircut to me =/
    • @Stringycheese  Have you only gone to the one blue slip workshop?  There will be a heap of them where ever you live, good odds that the next place you go to will pass the car.  Unfortunately (or fortunately?) every blue slip / engineering workshop will be different and will be happy passing or failing different things - despite working from the same set of rules. It's kinda like 2 lawyers arguing over a piece of legislation, each saying their interpretation is correct. Might seem strange that this happens when it comes to getting a modified car passed, but this is very much a thing. A big part of the game is finding an engineer / workshop that is on the same page as you.
    • Bah. I daily mine. ~60km per work day, 10-12 thousand km per year. What's the point of having a dirty old Datto and leaving it in the shed. It needs to be driven and enjoyed while the govco allows us to do so. It will only be a few years before we're forbidden to even start up internal combustion engines.
    • Judging by that spring perch and the normal looking spring on it - not a coilover. Well.... it is a coilover, just a stock format coilover, rather than what everyone calls a coilover.
    • Yes it is. We get stock from Nismo directly. I'm happy to take photos/video of it as proof before I ship it with timestamps or whathaveyou.
