hey all, just went to put a malpassi on my 32 with an rb20 but noticed there is, or appears to be 2 fuel regs. 1 in the normal place like on 33s etc. but another on the other end of the fuel rale... is that another reg? if so how do i go about getting around it and putting the malpassi on? i am sure there are a few that have done this before. .. also does any1 know what the standard fuel pressure us? thanks 4 the help. leigh. i can post pics if needed.

i dont know about this second fuel reg that you say you have. but its easy use an adapter plate to replace existing standard fuel reg at the end of the fuel rail.

easy done then mount in your Rising rate fuel reg and mount

here are some picks that sorta show where the second one is..... u can c it if you follow the fuel rale towards the rear of the car. i circled where it is. under the plenum.

ok, i have:

- trust TDO5/O6 round 450-470 hp?? unsure

- turbosmart 45mm pro external gate

- cooler

- safc

- bosch 040

- 3 1/4 inch exhaust from turbo with no cat.

- think thats bout it

i have done all the work my self from bolting the turbo on and making the cooler pipes, etc. the car is running fairly lean atm.. and as i dont have enough $$$ for larger injectors or management. i am going for the cheaper alternative of a fuel reg and tuning it with the safc and reg, and maybe backing off the timing if need be, but doubt it.. i have already purchased the reg so i might as well put it on. if u have any other sugggestions please give... i just want the car to be safe. me and a mate will be dyno tuning it once we have the malpassi on. i have seen in the rb20 turbo upgrade results that a few people have regs so any help would be good. i wanna get this on the dyno!!!!

ive see you a number of times... do you have a REALLY loud screamer pipe? the other day you were next to me and it didnt even seem like u dropped a gear and you were sideways for f***en ages lol i was in the white VLT...

also i dont see why all you guys are asking him weather he needs a malpassi or he should get a new fuel pump for? he is asking how to put it on not should he put it on.... but just to answer your comments this 32 is f**ken nutz i run consitant 12.8's and he was pulling away from me... i think he could use it...

sorry no help but yeh some rude people on here..unless they mount to the end they look a bit messy not that makes a deal so ive ordered one from japan that bolts on the end of the rail...its a bit weird that there is a regulator of sum sort up the back..

i have no ploblem having to fabricate a new adaptor where the old fuel reg is, i can do that at work... the issue i have here is if what i showed in the pick is another fuel reg. and what i have to do to get around it (if i need to get around it)... thanks leigh

Its probably because its as Craved and i thought... he is trying to nab extra power, but there could be other sinister reasons for the fuel issue.

The reg really wont give you much more of a higher ceiling in terms of fuel flow and what you can get out of it safely. Its that simple really.

Has the fuel pump been wired up correctly?

It is getting the correct voltage?

How lean is lean?

Are all the injectors in good condition?

There are a number of things to check if your leaning out IMO rather that buying a band aid.

Just because it sounds cool, i ran a 12.1 with a stock fuel reg, maybe i could have run an 11 if i had fuel reg...... :)

hey lwboosted...to answer your questions

a) yes it is another reg but dont worry about it, just leave it. You need to replace the front one. make an adapter and mount the reg somewhere..strut tower is nice, close and easily accessable.

b) standard fuel pressure is 38psi.. a few psi will make alot of difference. i run 42psi

Amen to that!!! I give it a month from installation before the motor lets go depending upon the tune. IMO Malpassi's are shit and should not be put on any turbo charged car thats running high boost levels. Its just that I dont trust a flimsy bit of silicone nomex to control fuel pressure at the pressure levels your going to be using, probably around 70 - 80psi I presume. One good thing about them is there ability to not hold pressure when the fuel pump is not running (bandaid fix for leaky injectors). The reason that standard FPR and sards are so good is that they have metal diaphrams making them impervious to pulsations through the fuel rail.

However if you still decide to persist in putting that junk on your car then leave the standard fpr where it is. The return line from the standard reg then feeds into side of the malpassi reg and the return from that then goes back to the tank. Make sure both still have a good vacumm signal. This way the majority of the pressure is held by the standard FPR.

yeah i would agree that you would be better off putting a sard in. i chose a sard for that reason..the metal diaphrams holds pressure perfectly..sell the malpassi to some n/a car owner and go get a sard...and bandaid fixes are not a good idea either..if your injectors are leaking...more pressure will just worsen that problem..so do as R31nismoid says and check pump voltages, check you fuel filter isn't blocked, check condition of clamps and injectors. I would do this even if you still put an adjustable reg in

    • Yup. You can get creative and make a sort of "bracket" with cable ties. Put 2 around the sender with a third passing underneath them strapped down against the sender. Then that third one is able to be passed through some hole at right angles to the orientation of the sender. Or some variation on the theme. Yes.... ummm, with caveats? I mean, the sender is BSP and you would likely have AN stuff on the hose, so yes, there would be the adapter you mention. But the block end will either be 1/8 NPT if that thread is still OK in there, or you can drill and tap it out to 1/4 BSP or NPT and use appropriate adapter there. As it stands, your mention of 1/8 BSPT male seems... wrong for the 1/8 NPT female it has to go into. The hose will be better, because even with the bush, the mass of the sender will be "hanging" off a hard threaded connection and will add some stress/strain to that. It might fail in the future. The hose eliminates almost all such risk - but adds in several more threaded connections to leak from! It really should be tapered, but it looks very long in that photo with no taper visible. If you have it in hand you should be able to see if it tapered or not. There technically is no possibility of a mechanical seal with a parallel male in a parallel female, so it is hard to believe that it is parallel male, but weirder things have happened. Maybe it's meant to seat on some surface when screwed in on the original installation? Anyway, at that thread size, parallel in parallel, with tape and goop, will seal just fine.
    • How do you propose I cable tie this: To something securely? Is it really just a case of finding a couple of holes and ziptying it there so it never goes flying or starts dangling around, more or less? Then run a 1/8 BSP Female to [hose adapter of choice?/AN?] and then the opposing fitting at the bush-into-oil-block end? being the hose-into-realistically likely a 1/8 BSPT male) Is this going to provide any real benefit over using a stainless/steel 1/4 to 1/8 BSPT reducing bush? I am making the assumption the OEM sender is BSPT not BSPP/BSP
    • I fashioned a ramp out of a couple of pieces of 140x35 lumber, to get the bumper up slightly, and then one of these is what I use
    • I wouldn't worry about dissimilar metal corrosion, should you just buy/make a steel replacement. There will be thread tape and sealant compound between the metals. The few little spots where they touch each other will be deep inside the joint, unable to get wet. And the alloy block is much much larger than a small steel fitting, so there is plenty of "sacrificial" capacity there. Any bush you put in there will be dissimilar anyway. Either steel or brass. Maybe stainless. All of them are different to the other parts in the chain. But what I said above still applies.
    • You are all good then, I didn't realise the port was in a part you can (have!) remove. Just pull the broken part out, clean it and the threads should be fine. Yes, the whole point about remote mounting is it takes almost all of the vibration out via the flexible hose. You just need a convenient chassis point and a cable tie or 3.
