hey guys and gals, im interested in putting a fmic on my r33 gtst but ive heard some bad stories about those cheap cooler kits. i have a mate who installed one of these and he had to cut away part of his fan blades!! My understanding of this is that the fan will then be out of balance and cause the water pump to S**T itself. I cannot justify the price difference between those cheap kits and a blitz or hybrid kit so i guess i will modify a cheap one, or if it is an easier option, to get a kit that installs through the side mount holes. Any ideas or solutions anyone has would be greatly appreciated.

the hybrid kits require you to cut the blades. simple way to avoid it being out of balance is to make a template so that when you cut the baldes they all get cut evenly. only problem with the blitz coolers, from what i'm told, is that the pipe that leads from the cooler up to the throttle body is a lot longer than the pipe from the turbo to the cooler, which runs back under the cooler, which is a big no no. you want the pipe from the cooler to engine to be as short as possible. ideal is the same length as the pipe from tubo to cooler. that is part of the idea of front mounting throttle bodies. it knocks about 2 feet of tubing off.

also make sure to get a tube and fin if you are using the car as a street car, or a bar and plate if it is for drags. bar and plate flow a bit better and cool the air more while they are cold, but suffer from heat soak and are harder to cool down once hot. that is why the drag cars use big bar and plate coolers.
