Well, SGIO just gave me the flick because for being honest.

I called them today to do the right thing and let them know what modifications I've done to the car. Well all of them were fine until I mentioned that I had SAFCII, I was then told that they were canceling my policy within the next 7 days.

My previous car was insured by them and they had no problem changing over my policy when I changed my car to a R33 Skyline GTS, when I made the policy for my first car I was told that I was allowed unlimited modifications so long as they were legal and listed.

I’m so pissed off, getting full comprehensive insurance and a decent price being 19 is very hard. They gave me insurance for $2021 a year and $300 claim the policy was under my mums name and I was the main driver. I called Shannons and they will insure me for $4,500 a year.

I don't want to have 3rd party because I'm still paying off my car and if anything were to happen to it, it would be money down the drain.

Now I’m stuck with the stress of looking of finding insurance. Can anyone can suggest an insurance company that will insure me for roughly the same or less.

Just Cars dude, and considering it's also non-turbo there is also a chance they will insure you for less than that. The excess will be extreme however.

That sucks though, did they give you a reason why a safc can't be listed?

They said in gives the car too much power....haha, I wonder what they would of said when I bolt a turbo on. The people I talked to didn’t even have a clue what it was to start with I explained it to them then this lady put me on hold for 15 min and came back saying we are going to cancel your policy. Is SAFC II illegal or something, I can’t find it stated anywhere on the licensing website

I wonder why they quoted me soo much then, its my age I bet.

It really sucks that people like me who are enthusiasts and respect their car, have to be penalised because some dick decides to do a burnout and run into a tree. The only reason why I want full comprehensive insurance is that I don’t trust the drivers on the road.

sgio are controlled by the NRMA, when i had my rex's a mate told me to try them out, being 21 with a rex wasn't getting me any favours anywhere till i rang them, $660 odd a year, perfect..

sold that car, got another, went straight back, couple years later, another new car, $700something bucks a yr no worries, second yr of owning that car, it DOUBLES, no a mild increase, it doubled..

furious i rang them and demanded an explanation, to which i got "oh no sir, your policy won't have doubled", until he looked it up on the computer, and realised i was right, he looked into it and came back with "the wrx is a high theft risk veichle, they don't have an imobalizer", explaining to him that anything after 97 had factory imobilizers built in, and the only way you can steal them now was to get the keys off the owner, or flat bed them didn't change anything..

finally he explained NRMA had taken over and that the price rise was due to the policy they have on the car..

they're a pack of wankers.

In my opinion, been driving for 15yrs now and having my first import almost 10 yrs ago, i find that its the combination of sports car + age that decisions are made by individual cases.

When RAC insured my Silvia almost 10 yrs ago, no modification at ALL was permitted. I was 22 then and imports were rare as hell. At every renewing year, i was slowly permitted to mod my car.

Now, i am with West Frmers and they have insured all my previous Gtrs with unlimited modification provided that i explained in detail what every modification was done and its function.

So, in your case, call them up and ask to explain why installing an SAFC would warrant a cancellation and explain to them the function of the SAFC. In certain cases, you may be required to have an explaination written by an approved workshop.

However, as i have never had any policy with SGIO, they might have a clause or different policy. Very important: Read your policy again.

I thought Shannons wouldnt cover anyone whos under 21, but yeah 4.5K a year for non turbo is pretty extreme. Just ask Matt (cause he works for Shannons) he should be able to help you out, gave me a pretty good quote too. Your next bet will probaly be Just Car insurence mate.

well i think im going to go with HBF they seem happy with what im doing to the car. They seem alot cheaper aswell, $1071 yr. Has anyone had a problem with HBF?

The guy at shannons i talked to on the phone said when your 21 come see us and it will be alot cheaper so thats what ill do.

yeah i would wait until your 21 for Shannons, our rates for under 21s can be hooooogeeee!

I did hear, however, with HBF that if you fitted, for example a Power FC, they wouldnt cover it as you cannot change the ecu. Wouldnt SAFC, something that "tricks" the stock ecu, be a similiar thing? Dunno, just just make sure they are happy with that.

Matt

P.S with HBF, are you insured as the main driver of the car too?

lol man we have been through this in the insurance thread lol... michael i feel ya pain...

im 19 f and have an import turbo as most of us do...

now mine is 1785py with my turbo time king springs pod and cat back exhaust listed.

dude its hard getting insurance. i asked sgio 6k they wanted. hbf wouldnt look at me rac asked min 3k bit wanted to assess my car and wouldnt insure it for its bought value. shannons wouldnt look at me cause im 19 and a few others wouldnt either...

your lucky because you dont have turbo so it cuts cost down a bit but your still 19 m which makes you a large liability in their eyes.

just make sure that the people you go with allow all mods (read fine print!) are happy with what you already have and will insure for what you want it insured for...

just look around and youll find the right one!!

good luck dude :P

    • For these last 7 years of ownership, I've always had to use a small scissor jack under one of the front tow hooks to raise the front just enough so my low-profile jack fits under to reach my subframe jack point. I'm beginning to get annoyed of always having to do this. Are there any lower low-profile jacks that fit under the gtr lip on a dropped car?
    • Seat of the pants assessment of the new intake: The car is way less "doughy" when hitting the loud pedal, especially off idle when stopped or in traffic, I did use a cheapo lazer thermal thingo to measure the temp around where the pod filter got its air, it was between 55 - 60°C, in saying this the car was shut off and not moving, so the OEM intake pipe was not supplying any fresh air to where the pod was when the car was at least moving A weird bonus was induction noise on the throttle in the cabin increased a bit,  I was worried that I was actually going to lose some of that induction noise I love so much, outside though, when I got the daughter to do a WOT drive by pass for me, the induction noise has increased alot when on the throttle, not quite ITB doort, but well up there I'm extremely happy with the results and have been exploring the country roads in the region  As for house mods: 1.New front fence is up and is awesome, it really upgraded how the joint looks from the street, and the added security is nice 2. Electricians have replace some interior lights, and with more lighting in the garage, a few new motion detecting lights out the front above the garage, front room, and at the front door, which I have already found heaps helpful coming and going, also now has fancy pants CCTV all round the house The only hold point for power though is the solar and batteries due to supply issues, although this will happen over the next few weeks 3. I have done a heap of landscaping out the front and I'm almost ready to do a new small retaining wall with some nice blocks to replace the brick and cemented in rocks around the raised garden beds cemented in river stone "was the fashion at the time" the house was built. I currently have a pallet of retaining wall blocks and 2 bulka bags of 20mm blue metal to replace the wood chip that is in the raised garden beds around the house 4. I now have 3 big raised garden beds for out the back to grow some vegetables, about 70cm high, 200cm long and 100cm wide 5. My 2 compost bins are already pretty full with brown, green and kitchen waste from the landscaping I'vedone so far, but they will probably take a few months to break down, so anything else that gets chopped, trimmed, and kitchen waste will just start filling the base of the raised garden beds to about 30cm before I start throwing 40cm of good compost, and stuff, for the vegetables to grow in, I'll need a few ton of compost and soil, but the local supplier can sent me bulka bags of the stuff Basically the logs, wood chips and a few strategically placed rocks for drainage, will give the beds some good organic materials down low to break down over time, and they will hold moisture during the warmer months to save the water in my big arse water tank if we don't get alot of rain So, all in all, the car and house mods are going well, and I'm really enjoying being retired, I sleep in too 0700 and slowly plod around inside until I feel like actually doing anything, and only work in the yard for as long as want, which has actually been alot over the last few weeks,  although when you look at it, it seems that not a huge amount of work has been done,  until I look at the before I started the work pics Happy days and good times indeed
    • hahaha yeah. Plan is to get side skirts and probably just rear pods. But going to do them one-by-one. I've got a set that I really like from RHDJapen, but that one isn't shipped to AU. So need to find someone who can get it for me
