Is their anyways to by pass the turbo law for p plates?

There is another way you can pass the law its called moving to QLD. Up here we dont even have the speed restriction to 100 or is it 90 down their which is think is just plain stupid and dangerouse. If your driving 100 on a 110 road theres a good chance youll get rammed.

I really like skylines thats why im probably guna get 1. Later on ill probably do a engine swop.

Bogeye - Save the cash you spend on an engine swap and build up, like smasha said put it towards defensive driving lessons and the like. If you really want to modify, focus more on stopping and turning. Any idiot can accelerate, but stopping without the aid of a power pole is the real skill.

Once you're off your P's and have a bit of experience under your belt, go nuts on whatever you want, the more skylines to put the falcodore losers back in their places the better.

(Please not that i'm not encouraging illegal street behaviour in any way, that's what places like Calder, WSID and Kwinana are for)

Non-turbo Skylines are great for a P-plater. I've had my car for 2 years and am still on my green P's.

It has just the right amount of power for you to have fun, without killing yourself (not saying that you can't still kill youself in this). I myself never drive wrecklessly since I lost 3 points for talking on a Mobile and in the interim period between Red and Green P's I got use to driving cautiously with only 1 point. Plus driving like an idiot has never amused me.

Just take note though - insurance for a car like a Skyline, despite being Non-turbo will still CRIPLE you. I am now about to pay for my third year, and am hoping that the fact I have made no claims will once again see my insurance drop.

First year however, it was $3800 just for the Full Comprehensive plus approximately another $1100 for Green slip and Rego.

Second year it was $2700 for Full Comprehensive, and costs of registration and Green slip didn't go down.

Third year, I've received my Green slip form and once again for Green slip and Rego it's going to cost at least $1000 (though I'm hoping Just Car might have Green slip and might have a cheaper premium).

Anyway, think long and hard, because with university (which is still a while off for you, but I believe school would make it even harder), it is a massive financial burden to keep the car running. Not to mention mechanical costs, servicing costs, petrol (about $50 every week and a half) AHHHHHHHHHHH.

In short, think hard before buying a Skyline (this is coming from someone who like you, was intent to get a Skyline at a young age regardless of the outlook on costs).

Basically to get the most out of your N/a you need to make sure it breathes better.

So that means:

Intake mods... don't be fooled into thinking a ram pod is the answer, better flow into a standard airbox will do for an N/A. I had a secondary air feed into my box with a Blitz filter and it worked well.

Exhaust mods. On my N/A I had a set of fujitsubo stainless steel extractors, which were mandrel bent with equal length runners... flowed like a mofo.

Also got tuffy's mufflers in epping to make up a 2.5" exhaust with a good resonator and muffler for me, so it wasn't loud, but flowed well.

Get a good set of spark plugs, and have the car tuned on a dyno.

Other things like regular service, oil changes, oil filter changes etc make the car run better.

At the end of the day if you're restricted to an N/A... power to weight is king. Get yourself a nice VTEC CRX or civic or a corolla (maybe the classic AE86 if you absolutely need a RWD car or an imported AE111 Levin if you don't mind FWD) with VVT 1.6 N/A and you'll have a faster car than a heavier skyline, even if the engine is smaller. And with the fuel prices these days, a smaller engine is actually a good thing.

Little mods make ur car go better as talked about above such as

Air intake.

Extractors.

Shaved heads.

2.5" exhaust with a highflow cat

bored head ^-^ to its max potential.

forget a turbo just with this above stuff ur car goes just as fast as a turbo or even faster if u want to work all engine .........

    • Nope.    Grab a varex and turn it down as you get close to home, win win?
    • So, I've had my V36 for about a month now and have already copped an "excessive exhaust noise" notification from QLD TMR, reported by someone in my local area. It's a twin as per the original, and can have a bit of a throaty note to it when idling cold 😄 and if I do get up it a bit, it can be noisy, but it did pass a roadworthy inspection before sale, so.... ... but in the interest of being a good neighbour, I do want to quieten it down a bit. Is anyone here running a quiet aftermarket cat-back on their V36 or 370Z? And the big, bold question: does an aftermarket cat-back really make much of a performance difference on these cars?
    • The wiring diagram for the R33 RB25 is freely available, and is essentially the same same as most other RBs (just with differences as to which pin # does which job). To get the ECU to power up, you just need to provide power to the ECCS relay, and have the other power feeds that come in from the top left of the wiring diagram (wrt the ECU) that give perma power to the fuel pump relay, the ECU itself, etc etc, all connected. When you put power on all these it will just come to life. It's pretty clear from the diagram what needs to happen. Just follow the lines from the 12V + supply stuff in the top left over towards the ECU. I've even posted snips of such diagrams (not for vanilla 25, I think for Neo and 26) to various threads here in the last few months, talking about what it takes to get the fuel pump and FPCM up and going. Search these up and they will help get you started on doing the same with the vanilla 25 diagram. Hell, for all I know, I've done the same with that one in years past and have forgotten.
    • Yep...so unless someone posts up the answer you will need to probe from the ECU connector to the dash plug with a multi meter in continuity mode to trace the wires.  Note the ECU has multiple - and + (and across different key settings - Battery, IGN and Start) and most likely the power is fed from the connector(s) that is normally near the left hand headlight.
    • Thanks Duncan, I am actually just trying to get the Rb turning and running with the RB25DET S2 original loom itself  I am just trying to get it going outside the body and not thinking about the S15 or trying to match anything to the S15 loom at all I am only trying to see if anyone has done this and what pin they found to be the ignition trigger and ECU+/- on the dash connector, that's about it. Thanks
