IMO the modifications do not really add much "value" to the car... if anything they will just help "retain" the initial value.

So say you've paid $30k for the purchase price, added another $5k in mods, then you should get $30k for the car after 1-2 years of driving.

I know a guy on here who purchased a immaculate R34GTT with no mods whatsoever (99 model with 20,000kms) for $23k

That's just my opinion.

n15m0 seems to be on the money here!

$23K?!!??...that's a steal! Manual or Auto? But with 20,000kms; sounds a little sus?

the klms are completely bullsh8t a 20k manual still sells for 23k in japan !

8 SKYLINE - Manual 5 Speed 23,000km black 4 1,595,000YEN

1998 SKYLINE 2D GT TURBO Manual 5 Speed 23,000km black 45AA 1,685,000YEN

1998 SKYLINE 4D 25GT X Auto Transmisson 24,000km pearl 5 1,206,000YEN

1998 SKYLINE 2D GT TURBO Manual 5 Speed 26,000km black 4A 1,835,000YEN

1998 SKYLINE - Manual 5 Speed 27,000km black 4 1,615,000YEN

some recent auction prices above ...the 4d 25gtx was a non turbo

Agreed - there's no way a genuine 20,000km manual R34 would sell for less than 1.5 million FOB in Japan at current prices.

My first piece of advice is that forums are notoriously hard on prices. If I took advice in here, I would've sold my S2 R33 for $15K - instead I went with what I thought it was worth retail, and got $19K for it...

I'd be advertising at $30K in Unique Cars.

you would be better off removing some of the mods and selling the car stock...if u had a look at some of the prices Jspec are bringing them in for nowadays...makes u wanna cry for some one who has purchased their 34 in the past year or 2...

But guys, you're not answering his question.

He's not asking what we can buy them for, he's asking what he can sell his for.

There's a big difference, and there are plenty of people out there who buy R34s that aren't on J-Spec's mailing list.

The answers are pretty much all in there. And there's no right or wrong answer. He can sell his for 30k by all means but whether or not people will BUY it at that price is another story.

Yes, not everyone buys from Jspec but thats just an example of what is available out there. I purchased mine for 32k a year and a half ago, auto, turbo, 36ks on the clock...

Since then I have learnt a lot more about these cars and what they go for now. If I were to buy another one today, I would definately not pay 30k for it again, knowing whats out there.

otherwise termed "suckers"

anyone who doesnt research a car before buying is just stupid

p.s.

i was going to say, sub 25k

importers for 22-25k

havent looked around much lately but basically they were on the 5k+ more than s2 33's

There are very few people who don't do research these days.

But particularly in the case of older owners, they don't know about import websites and mailing lists. They check the Unique Cars information which says that R34s are just coming down under $30K in recent times.

Like I said, he's not asking what YOU would spend on one - he's asking what they sell for, and I know for a fact that there are still plenty of R34s like the one he has selling closer to $30K. It doesn't matter whether other people are buying them at $23K - what matters is that someone will buy HIS for $30K.

Don't let prices from importers do your head in - there are still people prepared to pay good money for R34s.

    • This looks great! Awesome to have the 5 speed with an LSD in this. The Recaro's look like SR2's or SR3's. It's a shame they've been retrimmed as they would have looked sweet in their original colours. I think I'd want my agent to be a little more up front and informative too. I've never imported but I reckon it would make me a little nervous, so the more info the better.
    • Thanks for doing that Duncan! Makes you a good person in my books. We don't get kangaroos or wombats here. But we have bats and it's similar. AFAIK it's often the mums with a baby attached that get hit because they drop lower when starting from a tree. If you hit an animal, check on it. https://www.ifaw.org/au/resources/wildlife-rescue-app An app to get the closest wildlife rescue contact.
    • My dream is also to have a proper hoist, but I don't think it will ever happen. My quickjack is probably as close as I'll ever get, it really is very good though.
    • Yeah we keep on in the dailies, it is pretty poor how many animals get hit and the driver leaves without checking....have saved a couple of little ones over the years. Bit of a gruesome job though, pouches generally need to be cut open because they are so tight and often the joey doesn't realise mum is gone so they are still locked onto the teat. I checked the modules in front of the DS wheel where an oil cooler should go.... There is the radar unit - that can go for race use) One of the 2 HX water pumps, the silver cylinder. That needs to be kept but might be able to be relocated But the bad news, the big computer mounted vertically in front of the wheel (blocking any potential air exit) is the electric steering computer. That is required until/unless i do a hydraulic steering conversion, and in CAD based modern car design it is not like I can just pop a big unit like that somewhere else (plus the loom would be too short anywhere else too). So, the passenger side is OK to clear out (just use a smaller washer reservoir, potentially elsewhere), but the DS no beuno
    • Well, all the best with the new camry It was interesting to hear about the UK process, it is generally a lot more streamlined here with a shipping agent looking after all the import side (noting the exact final price can still be a surprise.....) and I've used a few different brokers on the japan (or US) side, and never had any trouble with any of them....luck of the draw I guess. You mentioned you didn't get the auction sheet (understandable since you bought it from a dealer, not auction), but I always try and get hold of that because they are pretty thorough. I've imported 2x R grade vehicles over the years and both were fine, repairs in Japan are pretty thorough compared to here in Oz.
