As this is my first post i hope I have the right format etc..

As you can guess I am looking at R32 Sedans as wanting to buy one very shortly and off to see one tonight as it happens to be.

My question is are there any issues that I should look at when looking at these things being like over 10years even though seem to have low km's.

The one I am inspecting tonight is Type M, manual sedan with Tein suspension and Zorst other than that pretty stock 116000k's (belt done). So any tips appreciated...

Also any ideas on a price should be going for ???

Hey mate,

Having recently been in the same position as you i can certainly give you a few tips.

Firstly, CONGRATS ON CHOOSING A 4 DOOR!!!!!!

A few things to look for,

Tow points front and rear, make sure they line up and are not bent, good sign of a yank out of a ditch etc.

Rear main gearbox seal, (mine was leaking) usually from old age but they can get distorted from "dropping the clutch" and start dripping gearbox oil, cheap to fix but a good indicator of abuse etc.

Hoses are usually ready for replacement too, mine were........

Check all buttons in the car and on the dash actually work..... worth checking believe me.

Other than that, make sure you give it a good test drive.

Keep in mind its and old car and will need stuff done to it to keep it on the road.

be sure to check for rust on these cars, they will rust in a day

also, the fuel tank, make sure it sits in front of the rear bumper as these cars came from the factory with the fuel tank extruding from the rear of the car, any impact over 15kmh and that baby will blow up on you.

also check the hubs, for the wheels, as r32 sedans are notorious for rust, the hub can rust also straight thru to th core, in lamens terms, wheels are prone to come off at speeds of 120/km/h an hour

r32 4 doors also have the foolish positioning of it's ECU, right next to the outlet manifold, so if it gets too hot (and believe me, the r32 sedan radiator won't work after 120xxxkms) the manifold just gets too hot and melts the ECU to a thick goo

aside from these minor quibbles, they are a great car, and yeah, as the guys says just change a few hoses and you'll be sweet!

u wont regret choosing the 4 door, u would not beleive how many people have just stood at my passenger door waiting for my passenger to get out so they can jump in the back.

so much easier to use and IMO are so much fresher to see than the constant 2 doors u see everywhere.

Do not trust the odometer unless there is evidence that it is correct.. Wich there won't be. Winding back of odometers is VERY common. Try and make your own asumption on k's by checking wear on pedals and stock steering wheel (If it has one).

Also check thoroughly for under body rust.. Wich will give an indication to how prone the car will be to more serious rust problems in the future.

You should be able to find a clean one for around 10-12.5k IMO

: hmm i don't recall this on my previous r32 4 door. ecu was located in same spot as the coupe, in the passenger footwell.

-Don't forget to get a compression or leak down test done, will give you some sort of indication the condition of the motor.

-Have a look at the condition of the coolant and the oil, well pretty much all the fluids. Gives an indication of how well its been maintained.

-Not sure if this works, but i've heard if you want to test how straight the car is, on a dry day wet the tyres and drive the car slowly in a straight line, if the tyre marks from the wheels don't overlap evenly on both sides, it could indicate a problem.

-Check rust like others have said above.

-Also as mentioned check all electrics work, pain i had with mine was when i went to get RWC, i found out front dimister didn't work and therefore had to fix that as i didn't pick it up when i looked at it.

-Check the Tiens for leaks or odd noises. They won't be cheap to rebuild.

yea thats were mine is :S

there basically a 2door wit the added plesure... another set of doors,

boots a lil bigger and the roof is higer

besides that....

i got mine as an auto wit 60k genuine kms with log books, and under body imaculit for 10g converted to manual.

being an auto the car wasnt flogged and i still had the original car seat covers and the chrome strips and weather guards

you should look for same things as 2-door

do a compression test if you can, but you have to remove some of the intake piping etc. to get to the spark plugs

4-doors are pimp! the one you were looking at sounds alright, with aftermarket suspension, check that the shocks aren't leaking. Exhaust is a bonus, 4-door exhausts are slightly different than 2dr, so they might be hard to find.

Thanks guys... no still no car yet but that 4dr still for grabs so just waiting to flog off the mrs car then off shoppin. One thing forgot to add it has an r33 box and new clutch in it too but noticed driving past something I missed were the dents down passenger side and bit larger than the odd trolley knock.

Will of course get the compression test and will check out electrics as been there and not good when things dont work. Zorst is only cat back on it and guy who owns the thing done work himself so have to have good look over. Suspension does squeak bit but havent had good look for leaks etc..

Thanks again for the advise and will keep you posted on the final purchase...

    • I got back to Japan in January and was keen to get back on track as quickly as possible. Europe is god-awful for track accessibility (by comparison), so I picked up a first-gen GT86 in December just to have something I could jump into right away. The Skyline came over in a container this time and landed in early January. It was a bit battered after Europe, though—I refused to do anything beyond essential upkeep while it was over there. The clutch master cylinder gave out, and so did the power steering. I didn’t even bother changing the oil; it was the same stuff that went in just before I left Japan the first time. Naughty. Power steering parts would’ve cost double with shipping and taxes, so knowing I’d be heading back to Japan, I just postponed it and powered through the arm workout. It took a solid three months to get the car back on the road. Registration was a nightmare this time around. There were a bunch of BS fees to navigate, and sourcing parts was a headache. I needed stock seats for shaken, mistakenly blew 34k JPY on some ENR34 seats—which, of course, didn’t fit—then ended up having the car’s technical sheet amended to register it as a two-seater with the Brides. Then there’s the GT86. Amazing car. Does everything I want it to do. Parts are cheap, easy to find, and I don’t care what anyone says—it’s super rewarding to drive. I’ve done a few basic mods: diff ratio, coilovers, discs, pads, seat, etc. It already had a new exhaust manifold and the 180kph limiter removed, so I assume it’s running some kind of map. I’ve just been thrashing it at the track non-stop—mostly Fuji Speedway now, since I need something with higher speed after all that autobahn time. The wheels on the R34 always pissed me off—too big, and it was a nightmare getting tires to fit properly under the arches. So I threw in the towel and bought something that fits better. Looks way cleaner too (at least to me)—less hotboy, less attention-seeking. Still an R34, though. Now for future plans. There are a few things still outstanding with the car. First up, the rear subframe needs an overhaul—that’s priority one. Next, I need to figure out an engine rebuild plan. No timeline yet, but I want to keep it economical—not cutting corners, just not throwing tens of thousands at a mechanic I can barely communicate with. And finally, paint. Plus a bit of tidying up here and there.  
    • Nope, needed to clearance under the bar a little with a heat gun, a 1/2" extension as the "clearancer", and big hammer, I was aware of this from the onset, they fit a 2.0 with this intake no problems, but, the 2.5 is around 15mm taller than a 2.0, so "clearancing" was required  It "just" touched when test fitting, now, I have about 10mm of clearance  You cannot see where it was done, and so far, there's no contact when giving it the beans Happy days
    • It's been a while since I've updated this thread. The last year (and some) has been very hectic. In the second-half of 2024 I took the R34 on a trip through Germany, Italy, France and Switzerland - it was f*cking great. I got a little annoyed with the attention the car was getting around Europe and really didn't drive it that much. I could barely work on the car since I was living in an inner-city apartment (with underground parking). During the trip, the car lost power steering in France - split hose - and I ended up driving around 4,000kms with no power steering.  There were a few Nurburgring trips here and there, but in total the R34 amassed just shy of 7,000kms on European roads. Long story short, I broke up with the reason I was transferred to Europe for and requested to be moved back to Japan. The E90, loved it. It was a sunk cost of around EUR 10,000 and I sold it to a friend for EUR 1,500 just to get rid of it quickly. Trust me, moving countries f*cking sucks and I could not be bothered to be as methodical as I was the first time around.
