ok here we go.im going to get me a stagea and have been looking at the ones with the satnav system.i know the satnav is usless here but im looking at prob replacing it with a double din setup.and looking at it in the pics posted by jspec it seems to be a standard double din size with the ac controls next to it.if this is the case i would be able to put a double din radio or a standard one and a dvd setup as well as have room for a gauge setup like andy has. so looks like i could fit 3 standard din items as well as the ac controls. well i spose ive confusled ya all now lol but im sure one of you know what i mean .

thanks all regards mike..........

ah i see, as long as the climate control is not attached to the sat nav then you shouldnt have any problems...other than some tricky bracket work in there, although im sure that a car audio store could sort that out for you

Mike

If you buy that car or another one with Sat nav, and then decide to pull it out, I will have these bits spare.

I am only going to use the gauges in my S2.

I have also attached a picture of the rear of the Sat Nav and AC and it looks to be all one piece

I have that set up in my S1 (must have been optioned up in a big way) and the AC controls are part of the sat nav, the biggest issue is that it is a touch screen and you contol most of the heating/cooling functions (Fan Speed) through it! I am sure you could replace it with the AC controls that are found in Stagea's without the screen but could be interesting...

I think I will try to repalce the lower Din radio part with an A/M MP3 CD tuner but will need to have an AUX input on it if I want to use the screen for anything and be able to have sound.

Screen folds forward too, there is a single disc CD player behind there!

If only it all worked here...

Let me know what you end up doing if you get one as I will be very intersted to know what can be done.

Cheers

Luke

You could also get a single-DIN head unit with a fold-out screen, then use one DIN slot for the standard a/c and the other for gauges.

Getting a navigation device (hidden under a seat or in the boot) with AV outputs is then the next step, and you'll have the whole lot sorted without major dash surgery.

Your best bet is either to contact some of the bigger and more reputable car audio installers/suppliers or try some of the specialist electronics places like JayCar, etc.

Finding a fold-out screen is easy, and there are plenty around from Alpine, Pioneer, Kenwood, Clarion, Sony, and some of the smaller brands like NESA, etc. Then it's just a matter of finding a navigation set-up to suit.

Most of the navigation stuff here is of the stand-alone variety, like the NAVMAN, ToMTom, Garmin, etc. The one in-dash one that I can think of available here is from VDO-Dayton, but even then it would take up two DIN spaces, unless you mount the control box with the DVD or CD reader (depending on your choice) under your seats.

Alpine do have navigation stuff available, but it's o/seas only...

    • Hope you aren't too sore after that one, might take a day or 2 to notice yet and I guess it is a loooooong drive home. On the bright side, tube frame front end is a thing at superlap, right?

    • The chart of front pressure to rear pressure (with one being on the x axis and the other being on the y axis) is not a straight line on a typical proportioning valve. At lower pressures there is a straight line with one slope, and at higher pressures that changes to a lower slope. That creates a bend in the line at that pressure, called the knee point. If you do not change the proportionng as the pressure gets higher, you will suffer excessive pressure (at one end of the car or the other, depending on which way you look at the proportioning action) and then get lockups at that end. The HFM BM57, from my memory of previous discussions, is based on the BM57 from a different car (to a Skyline), with a different requirement for the location of the knee point and the distribution of pressure front to rear, and so is not a good choice for an upgrade on a Skyline. Here's a couple of links to some old posts, one from here, one from elsewhere. A lot of it pertains to adjustable prop valves, but the idea is the same. There are plenty of discussions on here about this issue from al the many years of people wanting a cheap/accessible option. https://grassrootsmotorsports.com/forum/grm/learn-me-brake-proportioning-valves/236880/page1/ https://grassrootsmotorsports.com/forum/grm/learn-me-brake-proportioning-valves/236880/page1/
