looks like i'll be driving then

its cool Shane i dont need a new engin yet.... do you need me to show you how to put a radiator cap on??

s14 motor (WAS).. clearance is the same as any sr20 silv.. so about 3inchs i think.... well i could fit my hand there... but after the accident.. there was no clearance.. the tunnel was squashed down to the gearbox lol.

do me proud son!

he He he.... i will

with the rb20 in the sil ther is like only an inch of clearence with the gear box droped...

but i did get sum interesting advice and am considering changing my engin to a RB26 :P now to find one and some cash...

dude, half the race is actually finishing lol

you'll probably break down half way lol

(sorry)

oh and as for the other pump... i don't know! It could have had a decent connection

lolz ur such a team player liz

weird *shrugs*

go a 2j, better engine

go a 2j, better engine

and all the trouble??? i told you rb26 is the better option, almost a straigh swap well according to Lucas...

as sif bring up which is a better option... thats only your oppinon and like an areshole everyone has one...

hey we go kart drivers have to stick together

well.. my car has been complied and will be registered tomorrow! Then we begin the engine conversion!!! WOOT

omg i cant believe im going to do this but....agreed

find urself a 2j and a getrag lee and u'll be set!

you should have put one in the gtr. you would have had less problems

lee, 2j IS a better engine. there is no opinion about it, its common knowledge. 2j is better built in almost every way. the rb26 is good, but unreliable. look at all the gtr's on this forum and count the number on the road. there is actually a workshop in brisbane that will do the swap for you no probs, they have mounts and everything already made up.

that's what i found when i did my first build up.. every man and his dog had an opinion, and almost every one of them talked absolute shit lol

just go with your gut, you'll thank yourself later!

i wouldnt suggest a 2j conversion for lee, its a bit costly, and really only useful in a straight line. it would overweigh the front of the car, ruining the weight balance.

stick with the rb20 lee and put a little bit of money into it. you dont need a lot of power to go up a mountain fast.

look at lowering the weight and balancing the car, you'll have just as much fun then. thats my opinion anyway

dont worry mike i looked into doing a 2j in the gtr, but if i was to keep the awd (which i wanted to) there woulad been too much custom work on the sump. give u an idea, the 2j has a stepped sump, the front section being 130mm wider than the bottom of the gtr block.

yeah i know, i saw someone trying to do one a while back, ending up scrapping the project because of the amount of money it would cost. in a silvia though, it would be much easier

have u seen the weight figures between the motors? it'd be interesting to see, caus i doubt theres much between them

There a a few people who build engines for a living that can describe many reasons why the Rb26 makes a better engine in a full tilt application. There is a thread on it here in which SK describes why and I had heard the exact sentiments before

As a mild tune engine the 2j is awesome...as a "race" engine the 26 is better according to these engine builders

got linky to said thread?

lol.. you just did!!!!

i wasnt serious, sif lee could afford a 2j conversion

no there isnt, but every little bit counts on corners. when my new car arrives i will show you what even the slightest of balance adjustments can do.

that all comes down to opinion really. whether you can afford a full blown race engine or not. if we are talking one that gets rebuilt every few races then maybe, i'd go the rb26. but for reliability i'd pick the 2j.

i think we should stop this argument, remember what happenend on boost cruising when we did this on purpose?

    • Does it also misfire equally when revving?   Josh is very correct in what you should do. The coilpack harness wiring loom itself is a known problem due to its age and the number of heat cycles it has gone through. Throwing parts at a vehicle to diagnose the issue isn't a smart or good way to do it. Secondly, you may have a bad coil pack, you pop replacements in, they fix that issue, but messing with the harness breaks it, so the issue persists. So now you think "well it wasn't the coil packs" and have to continue chasing your tail, potentially swapping back in your shit coil packs and returning the good ones (yes, I've seen people do this because 'it wasn't the problem' and they want to save money). And suddenly, you've got two issues with the same symptoms...   Diagnose, don't use the spare parts shotgun.
