Tapping From Engine Until Warm?

Hi All

As most of you know, i had a bad front on and rid off my car, i final finished repairing it and when you start it up for the first 30sec - 1min there is a tapping sound, when the car gets warm the tapping goes away? any ideas? i was thinking it was the fan at first as the radiator was wrapped around it, but im not sure anymore?

how long has it been since the engine has been running ?

Did you change the oil ? If so did you go to a different oil to what you normally use ??

If you have not had the engine running for a while the lifters are probly playing up. Get some lifta free from your auto parts shop and run that in with a new oil change and filter. Should fix the problem.

perhaps its the metal warping slightly when it heats up perhaps?

yes i changed the oil before starting the car, and the oil filter, and yes i used a cheaper oil (not crap) , but i usually use synthetic oil

Is it a good idea to run this "lifta free" without having any lifter problems?

anyway to clean lifters prior to motor installation if the head has been sitting around?

just worn lifters pumping up, a heavier weight oil helps with these or replace for best results.

i ran 20w50 in the summer and 10w40 in the winter and the old rb20 was happy as could be...

ok will be changing the oil to 5w-40w syn and adding lifter fix...will tell you want happens

spoke to mechanic bout this and yeah exactly what the guys have already said in here. Use a heavier oil, it goes away after a while because the oil level has to rise and lubircate parts something like this. If its still doing it while its warm and driving around and gets louder while accelerating then yeh thats a different story I believe.

well i used 5-40w oil and lift free, and the tapping is totally gone...so if anyone has this prob i do the same to get rid of it...good luck fellas
