Hey all, just realised the car i'm about to purchase only has a standard clutch so I assume it isn't going to last for long. It's a manual R34 GTT. I'm looking at getting one of the 240rwkw organic clutches from the C & B groupbuy. Just wondering if I then buy an R34 lightened flywheel such as an ORC or NISMO, will it fit fine with the aftermarket clutch? (Organic Exedy) I assume that it will because the clutch would expect you to use your original flywheel right? and an aftermarket lightened flywheel should fit fine into a standard clutch... But I just want to make sure to be 100% safe.

Also does anyone know of an aftermarket clutch that's good to about 240rwkw that comes with a lightened flywheel? I'm looking at around $660 for the Exedy + $550ish for a lightened flywheel so if there's anything else around that has both for less than $1500 i'd be interested.

Thanks.

You shouldn't have any problems with upgrading your flywheel to a lighter type at the same time you change your clutch.

As Wogboy said above, try Extreme, it who I went through and I did similar to what you're doing here.

I got the C & B clutch kit (organic) and an Extreme 4.8kg flywheel for my R33 gts-t.

All up it ended up costing me $1,060 installed.

Thats: $320 for the clutch kit

$470 for the flywheel

And $270 for the install.

Here is the link to my post about it:

Another option you might want to look at seeing as you want to change your clutch and flywheel at the same time is a multi-plate type clutch as the flywheel is built into these units. They tend to be more progressive and have a larger clamping force (which can be distributed over two or three plates, rather than one) The only real downside is they tend to have a slight chatter in neutral. Remember don't be put off by the price of some of the kits, they include the flywheel! Don't forget that!

So you're still happy with your decision to switch to a lightened flywheel? The C & B clutch is a bit more expensive for me because it's a pull type. The cheapest I could find at nengun and greenline that include a lightened flywheel is the Exedy Hyper multi plate (twin) for about $1800, so it looks like the C & B clutch and buying a flywheel is the way to go for me. Did you buy your Extreme 4.8kg flywheel from Adelaide Clutch Services?

Yeah I'm happy with getting my lightened flywheel from extreme. It works pretty well with the C&B clutch kit, and its perfect for me for the amount of power I have.

Basically the lightened flywheel just makes the car so much easier to drive and more rev happy. It also seems to come on to boost a little faster, I guess this is because the car goes through the rev range quicker.

Oh and don't worry about whether or not the combo is streetable or not, I had all sorts of people telling me it was going to be a pig to drive, but in actual fact its a dream.

You wouldn't know it had a lightened flywheel after a week of driving and you're used to it.

Check out the post I made to the link I made about my experiences with the clutch dude, its all in there.

I think I got a pretty good deal for a heavy duty clutch kit+lightened flywheel+install for just over $1k.

Thanks mate, definitely gonna go for the lightened flywheel option then.

Just to let other R34GTT owners know, the cheapest deal I could find was the C & B organic clutch (240rwkw) $660 and a 5.5kg chrome moly flywheel from Adelaide Clutch Service for $420. So that's $1080 + installation.

Im going for C&B, R34 HD organic kit for $650, Marz refered me to someone selling a lightened flywheel 5.5kg Chromemoly Xtreme for $480 delivered. Now is a matter of finding a good place to install.

So you stuck with the stock flywheel and just got it lightened...?

Sorry mate wrong info.., I got a new light flywheel, but i asked to get it machined, but u dont need to machine a new one, so basically its $300

Funny tho, Sum People say they find it different to drive with a new lighter flywheel, I found it the same as my stock one for some reason, tho better performance.

Ah okay yeah that makes sense, I was wondering why you would have to get a new flywheel machined heh. Just need to save up my pennies and i'll be going the same route. Does the clutch feel much different than the stock? I'm thinking of going for the next one up (5 puk 300rwkw) because I eventually want to upgrade to a GCG hi-flow.

Yep the clutch feels better imo, probably because the old one was worn out, but with the organic its much lighter than the standard clutch, also the point of where it bites is much more further up so it gives u a bit of exercise to push the clutch all the way in instead of going halfway to change gears originally, but then again its lighter so it kinda balances good and bad out.

Im guessing with your way its gonna be heavier push as your aiming for a more beefier clutch.
