Rb20det Or Rb20de With Turbo ?

I just purchased my r32 1989 with turbo

The chassis is from a non-turbo skyline. the plate says RB20DE

Im not sure whether it was a full RB20DET conversion or a RB20DE with a turbo upgrade

Is there a big difference?

Im not sure if i got ripped off

Are the rb20de and rb20det parts compatible?

Could someone please tell me a little bit more about the engines. And clues for me to look our for , so i can identify if the engine is full transplant or just a bolt on stock turbo

you can find out what engine you have by looking at the engine number located on the lower rear left of the cylinder block.

As for the differences not sure with the rb20 engine. I have a rb25de and planning on putting a turbo on in, it wont be able to handle as much power as the rb25det but should be as fast as or faster than a stock gtst, hoping for 300rwhp at 7-10psi.

umm a non turbo has a higher compression engine/head. i dont think they would have just bolted a turbo to it though..you can reck them easily by doing that.

The RB20DE engine has smaller combustion chambers, diffrent crown on the pistons and no piston oil squirters.

Other than that it's just cosmetic

The last owner had it for longer than a year

Im also interested in resetting the ECU. would that be a good idea?

I guess you could look for things like where the oil feed and water lines ect to the turbo are coming from. See if it just looks like someone has tapped into the sump or the block for oil or whether it all looks like stock piping etc.

Do you know how much boost you are running? If your running anything more than 7psi i would bet that your engine would be pinging like hell if it was a rb20de engine. What does the car drive like? They probly just put a whole det engine init. Have they converted the car to 5stud etc?
