DAMM SMOKERS! *shakes fist* LOL!

Me.. last one was sept last year.. went cold tukey.. doing good :)

My mother just quit about a month and a half ago.. smoking for 35 years went on the patches and is doing great..

But good luck on it jimbo.. you just have to be determined to stay off them

Tops to you!

Well done Jimbo / Stace / anyone who's giving up !!!!

I smoked for just over 20 years and have now been off them since 31 July 05 and it's not been easy so full points to all that succeed.

My 2 cents.........

1. Fcuk the patches off !! They are just feeding your addiction and you'll feel like shit when you're on em and then crave like hell when you're off em. Bin em !!

2. Gum is excellent to hit those cravings on the head when they strike AND it's a way of "doing something" which is pretty much what smoking has become to most people.

3. Set yourself realistic targets. Go day by day for the first week and then 1 week at a time and soon it'll be like 2 weeks since you had one !!! Then, it'd suck to undo that good work so just go for one more week ( if you're having a bad day, just try to get through that 1 day ). Soon you'll feel the addiction side of things subside and then you'll be cruising ( compared to the first week anyway ). Soon, day turn into weeks, and weeks turn into months and you're well on your way.

4. Don't look for praise from others. Be happy with your own progress !! Most other people don't know what you're going through.

5. Most of all, ENJOY the great feeling that you've managed to stay on the wagon when SO MANY others have fallen off !!!! :D

The following is something I did but I DO NOT recommend it !!!

I actually had an opened pack of 25mg smokes stashed away in case of emergency ( I normally only ever smoked 8mg's ) but after about 5 months had gone by, I went out to a HUGE party and knew I was going to be tempted / weak so I took the old pack with me. I lasted until 2am at which time I was pretty drunk and then I gave in & lit one up. After having consumed heaps of grog, then smoking a STALE 25mg smoke, I got head spins so bad I fell over, hurled :) , broke into a full body sweat and then started shivering uncontrolably. The effects lasted for almost 2 hours !! Since then the temptaion is almost zero !!!!! :)

G'luck.....I was a heavy smoker for about 5 years.....tried cold the sphincter of the universe, patches, gums........best bet if these fail is to go to your chemist and ask for zyban.....you will need a perscription which will last you three months and the drug is subsidised by the government.....though if you dont quit in this first go with zyban you wont get it subsidised at a later time.....very good method.

once again top work g'luck

alright

the bloke i was quitting with from work (for support we said we'd do it together) caved today but i held strong

3 days and counting woooohoooooooo

the inhaler thing says to have 6-12 per day but i'm only having about 3-5 a day

rocking this shit...

nicotine's a pussy lol got nothing on the power of the jim

thanks all

Jimbo

Jimbo,

I QUIT 4 months ago and it was the best thing I have ever done.

My best friend who is 34 nearly died of a heart attack and he was a lighter smoker, thinner and healthier than me, so it was a wake up call.

My first advice is to get rid of ALL the nicotine supplements as it is just prolonging the withdrawals. The more you think about smoking the worse the withdrawals get, so do not think about it.

If you feel like a smoke have a drink of water or go for a walk. If you need to escape the desk at work do a few laps of the firestairs.

After 4 days you have no nicotine in your system and after 2 weeks, you will not be dependant.

Smoking is more a phycological addiction and not a phyisical one.

I recommend you go and buy Alan Carr the only way to quit smoking from your local bookshop.

Good luck:-)

Remember that no one has ever died from withdrawal from smoking, but 10,000's of people die every year from smoking related deseises

whats this zyban stuff all about ???

My question is.....

Do any of you actually get anxiety for smokes when you get frustrated/angry?

Does it make you shake/nervous and feel weak when you dont have one.like a junkie wanting a fix?

Can you do without??

I was on them for 3 years from 1997-2000 and in that time i never actually craved the feelings that a smoker craves for one...Some of my friends were liek.''man i got to have one or im gonna loose it''.Where as i never really had those symptoms..

I went right off them, and the only cigarette i have smoked since was at a night club 2 years later...I litterally hated it....I mean i dont mind if my friend is doing it.And i wouldnt mind of i was going out with some1 who smoked, bar the ashtray kisses and breath. But i could put up with it.It's a decision that only they could address as being a probem and only they could fix.

Man I was off the scale agro for about the first 6 weeks, would snap at anything !! ( made working on the car fun ;) ) Now...... sweet as !!

JIMBO & STACE ...................

You both still on the wagon ???

Well done Jimbo / Stace / anyone who's giving up !!!!

I smoked for just over 20 years and have now been off them since 31 July 05

what a special day - the day I went cold the sphincter of the universe :P

ok

there was a party i went to on friday night. pretty tempted cause its the first time ever i've drank without smoking...ever.

but i just sucked down about 4 or 5 of the nicorette inhaler things and all was god. (apart from everyone commenting how much of a poof i looked like lol)

since then i havnt even had one of those things (just keeping nicotine in the sysyem) and am going along just fine, very proud of myself :D

thanks all

justin911,

zyban is a perscribed drug which you take once a day....it removes the cravings associated with quitting...Im not sure of the common side effects...though i did have a light head most of the time...the only reason i wouldnt smoke whilst on it was because it felt like i just had one....$30 for 30 days then you are allowed two renewals of the perscription....so 3mths. very good success rate.

Just wondering whats the point of giving up if you continue to put nicotine into your body?

I know you dont inhale all the other nasties but its just prolonging the whole thing.

Personaly I had to just reduce the amount of times I alowed my self a smoke like only one after dinner then only when drinking

- HOLD ON that would be a mistake for most off YOU, cause I never drank much! :D

Anyway its a tough drug to kick and still some times after even 20yrs when near someone smoking I get a whif and feel like one.

Must admit I have tried the odd one but soon as I take a drag I remember why I QUIT!

Guy's you think it wont make a diff if you dont give up, I know you dont think about it, BUT you will be 40 then 50 and still feel great and probably be much more healthy for quiting.

I know I am! :D

  • 3 weeks later...

    • Hi, is the HKS  Tower Bar still available ? negotiable ? 🤔
    • From there, it is really just test and assemble. Plug the adapter cables from the unit into the back of the screen, then the other side to the car harness. Don't forget all the other plugs too! Run the cables behind the unit and screw it back into place (4 screws) and you should now have 3 cables to run from the top screen to the android unit. I ran them along the DS of the other AV units in the gap between their backets and the console, and used some corrugated tubing on the sharp edges of the bracket so the wires were safe. Plug the centre console and lower screen in temporarily and turn the car to ACC, the AV should fire up as normal. Hold the back button for 3 sec and Android should appear on the top screen. You need to set the input to Aux for audio (more on that later). I put the unit under the AC duct in the centre console, with the wifi antenna on top of the AC duct near the shifter, the bluetooth antenna on the AC duct under the centre console The GPS unit on top of the DS to AC duct; they all seem to work OK there are are out of the way. Neat cable routing is a pain. For the drive recorder I mounted it near the rear view mirror and run the cable in the headlining, across the a pillar and then down the inside of the a pillar seal to the DS lower dash. From there it goes across and to one USB input for the unit. The second USB input is attached to the ECUtec OBD dongle and the 3rd goes to the USB bulkhead connected I added in the centre console. This is how the centre console looks "tidied" up Note I didn't install the provided speaker, didn't use the 2.5mm IPod in line or the piggyback loom for the Ipod or change any DIP switches; they seem to only be required if you need to use the Ipod input rather than the AUX input. That's it, install done, I'll follow up with a separate post on how the unit works, but in summary it retains all factory functions and inputs (so I still use my phone to the car for calls), reverse still works like factory etc.
    • Place the new daughterboard in the case and mount it using the 3 small black rivets provided, and reconnect the 3 factory ribbon cables to the new board Then, use the 3 piggyback cables from the daughterboard into the factory board on top (there are stand offs in the case to keep them apart. and remember to reconnect the antenna and rear cover fan wires. 1 screw to hold the motherboard in place. Before closing the case, make a hole in the sticker covering a hole in the case and run the cable for the android unit into the plug there. The video forgot this step, so did I, so will you probably. Then redo the 4 screws on back, 2 each top and bottom, 3 each side and put the 2 brackets back on.....all ready to go and not that tricky really.
    • Onto the android unit. You need to remove the top screen because there is a daughterboard to put inside the case. Each side vent pops out from clips; start at the bottom and carefully remove upwards (use a trim remover tool to avoid breaking anything). Then the lower screen and controls come out, 4 screws, a couple of clips (including 3 flimsy ones at the top) and 3 plugs on the rear. Then the upper screen, 4 screws and a bunch of plugs and she is out. From there, remove the mounting brackets (2 screws each), 4 screws on the rear, 2 screws top and bottom and 3 screws holding in the small plates on each side. When you remove the back cover (tight fit), watch out for the power cable for the fan, I removed it so I could put the back aside. The mainboard is held in by 1 screw in the middle, 1 aerial at the top and 3 ribbon cables. If you've ever done any laptop stuff the ribbon cables are OK to work with, just pop up the retainer and they slide out. If you are not familiar just grab a 12 year old from an iphone factory, they will know how it works The case should now look like this:
    • Switching the console was tricky. First there were 6 screws to remove, and also the little adapter loom and its screws had to come out. Also don't forget to remove the 2 screws holding the central locking receiver. Then there are 4 clips on either side....these were very tight in this case and needed careful persuading with a long flat screw driver....some force required but not enough to break them...this was probably the fiddliest part of the whole job. In my case I needed both the wiring loom and the central locking receiver module to swap across to the new one. That was it for the console, so "assembly is the reverse of disassembly"
