Just got a quote in the last couple of days ppl.. what do you think.

Car: '96 Skyline R33 gts-t SII - isured for $20,000

Age: 22

Driving record: Spotless

Previous Insurere: None

1) Just cars - $1950 premium with $1600 excess

2) Famous, unfortunately due to no previous insurance, the best NCB they could offer was 20% while Just Cars will put me on 50% due to having my license for 4 years..

Oops.. forgot to put in what famous said - $3,500 premium.. However would prob be $3,000 due to driving record.. Will wait until I have a year of insurance @ 50% than prob look into them..

At the moment i'll prob go with just cars, it isn't too bad I guess... Anyone got any other suggestions as to where I should also check up??

thinking about insurance almost makes one want to cry.. im 20 and im just thinking if its actually worth getting a skyline(r33 gtst)..so far, it seems u gotta hunt around alot and ask alot of questions, but in the end, im sure i would have to pay quite alot. especially since ive had a crash (write off) and a few speeding fines. although im thinking listing the car under my parents name seems like the best option.. but some of those insurances with (8k km) restriction.. that would suck as i would use it as a daily driver.. anywy

I got my renewal a few weeks ago and found it had dropped from $1500 (last year's price) to $1200. I was thinking that the market value had obviously dropped, but after doing some checks on Trading Post I saw some nearly stock R33's (usually just exhaust and/or rims) going for up to $19k private and just over $20k from a dealer. I'm fairly sure that the market value or mine with a few more mods is around the same or even more than the original insured value ($22k). The girl on the phone said that I was able to increase the insured value if I liked. Might need to check that out.

As some of you know I've had a tough time trying to find insurance after having had my license suspended for speeding and having a small at fault accident. One of the reasons I sold my Skyline was insurance and it's ridiciulous premiums.

The other day I called Famous Insurance and in a matter of minutes got the cheapest quote despite of my bad record. Today I went ahead with the policy and couldn't be happier.

Just to put things in perspective. I've called countless companies and they all either do not insure classic cars or I present too high a risk for them. I'm really sick of dealing with them and answering the same questions over and over again and hearing the same answers. The nearest quote I could find was $1090 with another classic car insurer which required me to get a valuation which costs over $100. Their excess was $500.

Famous on the other hand have offered me a premium of $600 with a basic excess of $200 and have insured me for the purchase amount (not market value like most other insurers wanted to). Following year the premium will drop to under $400 pending my driving record during the year.

Xxxx Xxxx who are meant to be lenient to high risk customers wanted to charge me around $2800 for market value which comes to $5800. Their excess was over $1000. Sure they are lenient but they should advertise the fact that they are also extortional. I had a third party property policy with them until today which cost me $693 with an excess of $1400!

Famous Insurance are an SAU endorsed company who offer our members a 10% discount or alternately will beat most quotes by 10%. Give them a call for a quote. You might be pleasently surprised.

Disclaimer: As any intelligent person would know, circumstances detirmine your premiums so what is expensive for me might be cheap in your case. SAU does not guarantee that Famous Insurance will offer you a policy.

have just got a quote of Just Cars and they were pretty good for me.  96' skyline with mods for agreed value $1900 full comp.  I am 25 rating 1 60% no claim living in albury.  Just thought I would let you know.

geez, I'm 23 with just cars, have a modded 93 gtst R33, am rating 1 and only pay $1050 this year

I was with Famous Classic Car Insurance before, and had an incident where i had to do claim it took a long time and a few weeks of waiting but overall they were alright. Its just sometimes they sort of stuff u around in not paying or replacing things, in which they make there own reasons to not cover somethings. And they really do take a hell alot of time on your claim and it sucks cause your car is sitting there at the panal shop for ages.

But when i was with them, it was $5500 under my name (20yo at the time) Modifiyed R34 GTT, they were the cheapest around at the time. But im not with them anymore...

Ive been looking for quotes on a R32 GTS-T. Im 17, on my P plates and have no previous accidents or claims. I asked for quotes from RAC but they wouldnt even insure me in a GTS. I then went to just cars and they would do a GTS for $1241. I then got a quote for a GTS-T from them and it was only $1475. Im quite happy with this and will most likely get theyre policy.

Are these guys in WA too?

Im with Just Car... full cover was a little over $1K for me at 19 with minimal mods on a 2.5lt TT Supra.

3rd party with fire/theft cover was around $600, but insured at $10k and getting stolen they only pay out $5k!!!

How do you guys in your late teens and early twenty's get such good quotes?

I'm with just car insurance and i've got an R34 GT-t and it's costing me 2900 a year. I've never crashed anything or claimed for anything.

And the best they will do next year is move me down to a rating 5 which is about 20 percent off my current premium.

    • @Haggerty you still haven't answered my question.  Many things you are saying do not make sense for someone who can tune, yet I would not expect someone who cannot tune to be playing with the things in the ECU that you are.  This process would be a lot quicker to figure out if we can remove user error from the equation.
    • If as it's stalling, the fuel pressure rises, it's saying there's less vacuum in the intake manifold. This is pretty typical of an engine that is slowing down.   While typically is agree it sounds fuel related, it really sounds fuel/air mixture related. Since the whole system has been refurbished, including injectors, pump, etc, it's likely we've altered how well the system is delivering fuel. If someone before you has messed with the IACV because it needed fiddling with as the fuel system was dieing out, we need to readjust it back. Getting things back to factory spec everywhere, is what's going to help the entire system. So if it idles at 400rpm with no IACV, that needs raising. Getting factory air flow back to normal will help us get everything back in spec, and likely help chase down any other issues. Back on IACV, if the base idle (no IACV plugged in) is too far out, it's a lot harder for the ECU to control idle. The IACV duty cycle causes non linear variations in reality. When I've tuned the idle valves in the past, you need to keep it in a relatively narrow window on aftermarket ecus to stop them doing wild dances. It also means if your base idle is too low, the valve needs to open too much, and then the smallest % change ends up being a huge variation.
    • I guess one thing that might be wrong is the manifold pressure.  It is a constant -5.9 and never moves even under 100% throttle and load.  I would expect it to atleast go to 0 correct?  It's doing this with the OEM MAP as well as the ECU vacuum sensor. When trying to tune the base map under load the crosshairs only climb vertically with RPM, but always in the -5.9 column.
    • AHHHH gotchaa, I'll do that once I am home again. I tried doing the harness with the multimeter but it seems the car needed a jump, there was no power when it was in the "ON" position. Not sure if I should use car battery jump starter or if its because the stuff that has been disconnect the car just does send power.
    • As far as I can tell I have everything properly set in the Haltech software for engine size, injector data, all sensors seem to be reporting proper numbers.  If I change any injector details it doesnt run right.    Changing the base map is having the biggest change in response, im not sure how people are saying it doesnt really matter.  I'm guessing under normal conditions the ECU is able to self adjust and keep everything smooth.   Right now my best performance is happening by lowering the base map just enough to where the ECU us doing short term cut of about 45% to reach the target Lambda of 14.7.  That way when I start putting load on it still has high enough fuel map to not be so lean.  After 2500 rpm I raised the base map to what would be really rich at no load, but still helps with the lean spots on load.  I figure I don't have much reason to be above 2500rpm with no load.  When watching other videos it seems their target is reached much faster than mine.  Mine takes forever to adjust and reach the target. My next few days will be spent making sure timing is good, it was running fine before doing the ECU and DBW swap, but want to verify.  I'll also probably swap in the new injectors I bought as well as a walbro 255 pump.
