hi fellas,

makes me wonder if its a long weekend..or am i just lost????

saw three cars pulled over on cumberland hwy north bound just after smithfield.

then abit past the bridge, i got pulled in for an RBT. then got told to park on the side for them to inspect.

got done for Intercooler, BOV, "Wheels to be checked - No Tyre plackard" and front bar too low.(although he didnt even measure it)

He told me i need to get an engineers cert and take it to an AUVIS, then RTA to get it cleared.

Was issued a Major defect catagory, Part inspection at AUVIS.

As far as i know...doesn't this mean I can just go to a place that does Blue Slips and get a pass if i have originals back on?...the only thing that bothers me is the Intercooler...will that definatly need an Engineers Cert?

Please....any response will be appreciated, got 4 days to buy parts n get cert. before i start work again then going to melb for a week. (have 20 days left to get it cleared.)

Oh btw...this other Sergant cop comes strolling over, and trys a power trip on me and this is the convo.

Cop: "have you ever been spoken to by the SRI?

Me: "No, i dunno what that is"

Cop: "It stands for Street Racing Investigations unit"

Me: "then no" .....(i don't speed or street race)

Cop: "you know your car looks familiar, and i have a very good memory" ....(he's doing the death stare eyes)

Me: "hmmm...you got the wrong person"

Cop: (looks at my license) ....i know now, yours the one racing the red commodore on Jedda Rd"

Me: "No i'm not"

Cop "don't you worry mate, i'll go and check my data and i'll be back. i have a very good memory, it is like a pin" (and presses his finger on his temple)

Me: ....(looks away and rolls eyes)

came back 5 mins later, handed back license and never said a thing again...

hahahaha....i used to get pis sed at cops like that...but they just look like fools now hehehe...

anyways...yea watch out everyone eh?...the cop who was giving me the defect was nice guy, but he was full asking stuff about ppl racing? and meet ups and krispy kremes at cumberland hwy etc. they must have some kind of operation happening with so many cops out to defect people.

but yea. anyone know the answer to my question regarding getting intercooler cleared of defect. i really dont wanna put the standard one back on....and if i do need an engineer. got a recommendation or price guide?

Thanxx in advance ppl...

n becareful..

as long as you have a stock air box, ecu, fpr (fuel pressure regulator) and stock exhaust you most surely will pass.

The only mods i had and were passed with were intercooler, gtr pump and after market bov.and they passed me,i think it was still a fair bit within limits and not so on the edge,as well.

You will need an engineers cert to pass this one.But remember that only the mods that you get passed will be road worthy.

IMO<<< ring the rta and book an emissions test right this second (tell them what it is for ie:you were fined by police and have to get a defect cleared. They will then tell you there are 2 places in sydney that you can get this done at.Botany or penrith.and you choose accordingly.i went by which one had the earliset possible time slot.which was 28 days away). If you want any chance of getting your car checked for the intercooler. You see, because the intercooler affects the inlet air thus affecting the emissions,in turn this is why they find the intercooler to be illegal.Your engineer will tell you that.

Did he ask you for an exhaust db test as well.I would definently get that done by the engineer while you are at it unless you have a stock exhaust.

Price wise, quite expensive.but any other mods after that, that you want to add to the list, are much more affordable.

Nah, he didnt write down exhuast db test...mines pretty quiet, unless u gun it.

When you said that you were passed for intercooler...did you need to get engineers cert? Or did you simply get an emissions test done and went to a blue slip place with it?

And...if i was to get an engineers Cert, Is getting an emissions test a criteria for so the engineers can sign off as road worthy? if so i better book it no matter what... what are your thoughts on that guys?

Guys my cars exhuast can stink like fuel, even just after a service. dunno if its cos stock ecu, or does everybody's skylines smell abit?

hanyou my car passed with the following intercooler, gtr pump and after market bov.

Yes it is criteria to go to an engineer if you want to keep the front mount.unless you can get a dodgey dude.but im guessing 9/10 times they will tell you to get one.give a few engineer places a call.

The rta has a list on their website of engineers under their domaine. But there are others not listed but you have to find them.

thanks guys.

alarm for 9am, then call around. think i will call blue slip places first before calling engineers. worried that they will just say yea yea, come in and i'll sort you out. then $400bux.

will let you guys know whats going to happen, and how it went. should be handy for future defect searches :)

oh yea. also gunna buy one of those UAS cold air box things...i like the idea of buying more mods to clear a defect haha.

and..zique. i have no idea. but i bet they won't know where to look anyways, unless they ask if do u have one and where is it. love it when they speak so technical, "Do u have a atmospheric venting blow off valve fitted to your vehicle" and their flash light is pointing right next to it :)

once again thanks. more advice welcome anytime

I saw that being setup on the cumberland highway. I was on my way to my mechanic's with my g/f to pick up her skyline.

Freakin pissed my pants when I saw it and thanked God when I wasn't asked to pull in (I think they were still setting up at the time).

2 hours later we left the mechanic's and took the long way round.

got it all cleared the other day.

thanks to all that helped. really appreciated.

brought a plastic cold air box from UAS, fits ok...not the best. hole for air flow meter was too small. and just used this foam and foil insulant stuff from clark rubber. works great.

alot quietier now tho, without the hks bov n filter. hmmm i kinda of think it even makes exhaust go quieter.

at first was pretty cut about the sound, but i think it does to abit harder now.

anybody notice a performace gain with cold air box .... or with standard bov back on?

    • Seat of the pants assessment of the new intake: The car is way less "doughy" when hitting the loud pedal, especially off idle when stopped or in traffic, I did use a cheapo lazer thermal thingo to measure the temp around where the pod filter got its air, it was between 55 - 60°C, in saying this the car was shut off and not moving, so the OEM intake pipe was not supplying any fresh air to where the pod was when the car was at least moving A weird bonus was induction noise on the throttle in the cabin increased a bit,  I was worried that I was actually going to lose some of that induction noise I love so much, outside though, when I got the daughter to do a WOT drive by pass for me, the induction noise has increased alot when on the throttle, not quite ITB doort, but well up there I'm extremely happy with the results and have been exploring the country roads in the region  As for house mods: 1.New front fence is up and is awesome, it really upgraded how the joint looks from the street, and the added security is nice 2. Electricians have replace some interior lights, and with more lighting in the garage, a few new motion detecting lights out the front above the garage, front room, and at the front door, which I have already found heaps helpful coming and going, also now has fancy pants CCTV all round the house The only hold point for power though is the solar and batteries due to supply issues, although this will happen over the next few weeks 3. I have done a heap of landscaping out the front and I'm almost ready to do a new small retaining wall with some nice blocks to replace the brick and cemented in rocks around the raised garden beds cemented in river stone "was the fashion at the time" the house was built. I currently have a pallet of retaining wall blocks and 2 bulka bags of 20mm blue metal to replace the wood chip that is in the raised garden beds around the house 4. I now have 3 big raised garden beds for out the back to grow some vegetables, about 70cm high, 200cm long and 100cm wide 5. My 2 compost bins are already pretty full with brown, green and kitchen waste from the landscaping I'vedone so far, but they will probably take a few months to break down, so anything else that gets chopped, trimmed, and kitchen waste will just start filling the base of the raised garden beds to about 30cm before I start throwing 40cm of good compost, and stuff, for the vegetables to grow in, I'll need a few ton of compost and soil, but the local supplier can sent me bulka bags of the stuff Basically the logs, wood chips and a few strategically placed rocks for drainage, will give the beds some good organic materials down low to break down over time, and they will hold moisture during the warmer months to save the water in my big arse water tank if we don't get alot of rain So, all in all, the car and house mods are going well, and I'm really enjoying being retired, I sleep in too 0700 and slowly plod around inside until I feel like actually doing anything, and only work in the yard for as long as want, which has actually been alot over the last few weeks,  although when you look at it, it seems that not a huge amount of work has been done,  until I look at the before I started the work pics Happy days and good times indeed
    • hahaha yeah. Plan is to get side skirts and probably just rear pods. But going to do them one-by-one. I've got a set that I really like from RHDJapen, but that one isn't shipped to AU. So need to find someone who can get it for me
    • Here's an idea, answer the questions I asked you as they are trying to work out WHY the LSD will be binding up in a straight line.
    • You haven't driven many modern cars then have you? Most of them have sfa steering feel with their stupid electric bullshit steering systems.
