Hi guys, I drive a 1990 R32 GTR. Unfortunately, there's coolant draining out when the car is running, not from the heater hoses or rad hoses, but rather somewhere underneath the intake manifold near the 4th/5th/6th cylinders. There's also oil down the side of the block. Any ideas what's wrong?

Most probably a welsh plug has rusted through although that would be water only, maybe 2 have gone and thats why theres oil as well. In that position, your up for alot of work just to get to them or whatever the problem is, as the intake manifold would have to come off completely, the welsh plugs are quite easy to replace though :D

yeah could be head gasket too, or even a cracked block if you are really unlucky. But start with the welshplug theory, get it up on a hoist and check them all out.

Is the oil a seperate leak? coming from the cam cover gasket maybe?

sounds to me like the same problem that I had with my car - the welsh plug was rusted like a mofo, and it leaked through there. Im not sure about the gasket, but take it to a reputable mechanic to get it checked out. If its not under warranty, be prepare to pay a fair bit. Good luck bud.

we removed the head and wow is that ever a pain in the ass job to do.

the intake is such a pita and the coolant lines over on the turbo side are disgusting.

Turns out the coolant was coming from a hose underneith the intake manifold. The oil has made all my coolant lines soft and one finaly burst with the pressure.

So now that just leaves the coolant in the oil.

We are replacing the head gasket and bolts and hoping that clears the problem up.

The oil down the side of the block was just the valve cover:P

At least this has allowed me to find my vaccumm leak:)

just going to change all the vaccumm lines while the manifold is off.

    • Are you thinking of Bens R32? I don't remember if his went through the bonnet itself, but it went through the chassis rail. Brad (RISKIN) bought it, and turned it into a track car. It's funny how anti people are of Jim Berry now. I remember when I pulled mine out (during an engine change) and inspected it and found it cracking badly. At that point in time so many people were even on SAU, were so pro Jim Berry, and that was after Bens GTR exploded his quite publically.
    • That's one of the reasons I got that breed, they look weird, the other reasons are they small, they are very vocal, and run around like they are on crack, I didn't want a breed that just sits around, these two are like kids on red cordial  My daughter has one, and it's a laugh riot, constantly doing Parkour around the house, sits on her shoulder, plays catch, and constantly runs around the house taking turns chasing the dog around, her Bermese though, just lays around with constant bitch face, and just looks on in utter disgust at the cat and dog playing together
    • I'm getting PTSD flashbacks seeing that name again.  With my turbo swift, I got 1,500km of street use on a Jim Berry clutch before it exploded and took out my input shaft with it.
