Anyone seen this writeup in motor magazine on the new GTR lol... its a pic of a G35 infiniti with a kit thats probably been used as the test car for the running gear of the GTR and i quote

"the latest prototype, shown in these spy shots from the Nurburgring, differs from previous ones"

yeah a little off the money there with the quotes ... that article tells me one thing though!

It depends on your definition of "prototype".

If you're talking about the "GTR Proto" at the Tokyo Motorshow, that was a shell prototype. Which, like most "prototype" cars designed to look good at an auto show, can barely do the speed limit let alone get hammered along at Nurburgring-testing speeds.

Nissan has been using a V35 shell on its test mule, with the development hardware for the next GT-R's drivetrain and powertrain underneath it. This technique is hardly unique to Nissan, and hardly a secret. The running gear underneath it will be the next GT-R. I'd still call that a prototype vehicle.

Its not wearing the same sheet metal as the car that's been appearing in Auto Shows and magazine spreads to avoid the inevitable spy shots as they develop it. Nissan has already said that GTR Proto will be the closest of all the shells they've displayed to the production version, but not 100% the same. When they settle on a final shape, chances are you'll see one heavily clad in various tape and plastic wrappings going around the track.

And the context of the quote is that this specific prototype (test mule for the underpinnings) has never had the NACA ducts on the bonnet nor the quad exhausts out back. Which is accurate enough.

see your point... i dont read it that way though and i know a number of people with no idea of what that car is will think its the prototype by the way its written.

theres no reference anywhere in that writeup that even suggests that it is a test mule even though we know that it is based on the fact its obviously a G35 infiniti. So if their aim is to create a misleading article then they have done a good job.

inark: It's the 'same old, same old' article written by Aussie journalists who don't really give 2 sh!ts about Japanese cars. Of course Motor is going to regurgitate the same stuff we've known for going on 3 years now, the only miniscule difference is that the pics of this test mule V35 has small bonnet ducts and a couple of extra exhaust pipes.

Do you really think Motor have a relationship with inside people in Japan that send secret documents to them with all the latest spy info? No... it's just whats on the grapevine on the 'net and what other mags have already printed... with a healthy dose of 'it makes us wonder...' and 'we can expect...'

I can't believe they threw 'the V8 may be back on the cards' quote in within 13 months of the GT-Rs debut... :rofl: is it out of the realms of possibility to install 4 exhaust tips to a V6 engine??

from a Porsche test driver, asked to test the GTR running gear. He'd just come from doing a lot of driving in the new 997 Turbo (what a freak of a car! i'll take 6!!) and what he said about the testing was... watch out 997 Turbo.... that's damn exciting if you ask me :mad::O:yes:

But after the GT-Rs release, watch most of the foreign press support Porsche over the GT-R no matter what... even if it really is better, which would make the GT-R the 'best car in the world' then ;)

They'll probably find the Porsche the more rounded car, or have better "feel" or something.

I just want to know, when they both come out, how fast both of them go around the Nurburgring in full production trim. No mods at all. I even want the spare tyre (or can of goop) in the boot, and the service manual in the glovebox.

Preferably with the same driver, and someone that knows the 'ring.....like Sabine Schmidt (who owes her financial allegance to BMW, not Porsche or Nissan) so improved track knowledge for the "second" car she drives, personal bias, and other factors can be ruled out.

So no more "but that R33 was running slicks, non-standard boost etc" caveats like the first production car to crack 8 mins record.

he said it felt quicker in a straight line, don't think had numbers to back it up though... but he's been driving both, if he said it felt quicker in a straight line... at least we know it's going to be very competitive in the power stakes.

    • I dunno about that as a blanket statement. Pitwork is Nissan's "Nissan genuine" thing, and for stuff like timing belts, I have found them to be excellent. Of course, for things like oil filters, you always use proper trusted brands anyway, not whatever the OEM has taken to using.
    • Ahhhh... If you were putting 12V to the led in there, that's likely made it very unhappy. Chances are how you put power, was 12V across an LED that's meant to only have about 20mA through it at peak, and a forward voltage of about 1.8 to 2.4 volts. That circuit is likely only a 3V3 circuit, and will have a resistor in series with the led too. That's my guesstimate on that light, without having touched one.
    • Another vote for installing them and see how you go.  I mean, you already own them, why would you not fit them? 
    • I have had too many of those over the years, my cars have a toolkit or at minimum a cheapy multi tool thing because its too easy to be snookered by some stupid plastic clip that stops you checking the battery terminal isn't loose.
    • Basically, if there is a part# on the nissan catalogue, it is a genuine part. There is a thing called "new old stock" which is stuff made years ago but never sold (or landfilled), but it is super hit and miss what you can buy. Other than some expensive Nismo stuff there is nothing new being made that suits these cars. The only time to be a little careful is (mostly in the US I think, but maybe Japan too), Nissan started rebranding some cheap crap maintenance parts like oil filters as "Pitworks"; stay away from them, if you are buying cheap just buy whatever the local car parts shop carries The three part numbers have an explanation on Amayama: 0V005 is auto, base style 0V015 is manual 0V505 is auto, hectic momo branded ones, maximum F&F points there!
