Hi All,

The car i have on the way has low k's but regardless of k's if you have imported a car, what are the things you would get done immediately.

I am thinking a Major Service and get it on the dyno to make sure all is running as it should be, if thats all good my priority is to get that Jap head unit out and replaced, although i am expecting the wharfies to do half the job for me

Obviously any safety issues come first.

My importer is getting it serviced etc but i thik i will get it done by someone i know when i get it home. I have stressed to them it needs to be schmick cause i am driving it back from Brisbane to Townsville

Cheers Stink

I would say swap out the timing belt and do the water pump at the same time as the belt. Then the usual stuff like fluids (diff, brake, oil, etc).

Ended up getting mine on the dyno when I first got it also, they detected a airflow meter reading problem and that restored quite a few lost kilowatts. So it was well worth it in my opinion.

Do you think the timing belt and water pump are necessary if they look reasonable?

Yeah i reall think the dyno a good idea!!

You normally wouldn't know when it has been changed from visual inspection. And you can't trust a sticker that say's its been done normally. Safe insurance in my opinion.

What if you've bought a low-km car (like sub-40k) and you're satisfied that the odometer reading is genuine?

I'm planning on replacing the timing belt in the not too distant future (probably don't have to worry about it while it's still under the 3 month dealer warranty anyway :)) but curious about peoples' opinions.

it all comes down to peace of mind.

for all you know the previous owner did an engine swap before he sold it. its not likley, but you cant tell me that it isnt possible. we're giving you advice that may save you from posting here in the near future.

i recommend you do a major service at least, and a dyno run/tune if you like.

Well, I'm reasonably confident the radiator has never been out of my car, for example.. judging by the lack of marks on the bolts it looks like it's never been touched with a socket or spanner.

But peace of mind is cheap insurance.. So I am keen to do it when I recover from the purchase cost :ninja:

    • Agreed, I've never seen a 260RS specific manual. As GTSBoy said it will mostly be stagea other than the engine loom https://www.hgeconsulting.com.au/stageaservicemanual.pdf
    • You'lll likely have to make do with R33 GTR for engine/tranny stuff, and Stagea for the body. I don't know that there's even been an actual diagram seen in the wild.
    • Haha, i kow right? Could have bought so many cars for the same amount of money (or less) but driving Unicorn gives you at least +1mln to style 😅. Like wise man said "life's to short to drink cheap wine and drive boring cars" 😉
    • Newbie here, proud owner of an Autech 260RS. I'm on the hunt for wiring diagrams specific to the 260RS, particularly S1. I've ran my eyes through R33, R34 Diagrams, there are some similarities, however continue to find incorrect wire colours and pins on connectors in the 33,34 diagrams.   I was hoping someone could point me in the right direction? I'd be happy to pay for the originals in Japanese. I can translate them, at least they would be accurate.   Any help please would be greatly appreciated, never heard an RB26DETT before let alone driven one, and I've got a spaghetti monster of goodness to sort out.   Cheers Benny
