Hey man

i was in the same situation as you

im 18 and last year i had to make the same decision

1) To save my money and spend it on some investment property which my mum wants me to invest in or

2) Wanted to buy a car

At this time i was doing my HSC and i did choose to buy a skyline

IMO....at the time i absolutley loved the car....i still do and have alot of fun with it and my friends

Im in uni now doing business administration but i keep spending money and mods and know i will never get my money back

yeh i was in the same boat about 6 months ago and i chose to buy the skyline for the main reason of i dont wanna be 22 and have missed out on havin a nice car when i was younger. my mindset was not ot be a p plater who drove a shit box... i worked 30 hour weeks coupled with uni and still do to afford to keep it on the road and not have to scrimge. but 6 months on i love the car and do not regret buyin it for a sec and it makes it even better knowin that i bought the thing with the money i earned from bustin my nuts in factorys lol

oh and btw i do still manage to save a fair bit jus is a mater of workin hard for wht u want.

go the coupe dude u live once so enjoy it!!

sorry for the spellin btw 2 much msn lol

The answer really depends on age and financial situation.

You are young, no wife, no kids, no mortgage, go for it !!!

Later on you may not be able to do it, so have some fun while you can. Later in life you will be able to look back on all the crazy things you did, and got away with.

As you get older your ideas change, you slow down, and a really fast car is no longer a priority. But educating your kids, or preparing for retirement may be.

good question

i had a couple of managed funds, and they made me plenty of money

i also had a loan to buy my skyline

in the end, i cashed in my managed funds and used them to buy my car outright (and then some)

i guess only u can decide what u really want

id buy the car

my friend was 19 got a loan for $35,000 (somehow) and got himself a 2000 and something silvia! now its worth no where near as much and he will be paying up the ass for years, everyone told him not too but he did anyway. poor bugger

oh well shit happens HAAA-ha

Hah, well that really is a retarded decision to make, its a bit off earning the money and buying it though.

Cheers for the input guys, I reckon I might just sit on my money for a month or so until I make up my mind.

I guess I kind of expected these kind of responses posting it on a car forum, I think thats kind of the reason why I posted it here.

But it does illustrate the point that a car is not an investment, it will definitely lose value over time and cost heaps to run no matter what happens.

Me I drive a clapped out Laser Turbo, but also have many hundreds of thousands of dollars invested. Why ? Because I am retired and don't really want to work anymore. I would rather have the regular investment income than a fast car.

When I was your age, I spent every cent I had on messing around with cars, and I never regretted it.

    • That's one of the reasons I got that breed, they look weird, the other reasons are they small, they are very vocal, and run around like they are on crack, I didn't want a breed that just sits around, these two are like kids on red cordial  My daughter has one, and it's a laugh riot, constantly doing Parkour around the house, sits on her shoulder, plays catch, and constantly runs around the house taking turns chasing the dog around, her Bermese though, just lays around with constant bitch face, and just looks on in utter disgust at the cat and dog playing together

    • It's all about the socialisation of the dogs. In that first 8 to 16 weeks of age they need to be taught to be nice and friendly with everything. That way they generalise it to everything. That said, some days you'll just never beat genetics, but 99% of the time dogs chasing cats is purely lack of socialisation, and then the chasing part can turn into prey drive.
