hey there peeps, i am thinking of getting a cheapy bomb car so i can leave my skyline at home and keep its ks down. also car will be going in for paint so i will need a car for a while. when i come to think of it i reckon it will be better for me to drive my shitter around as everyday use and drive the skyline for show and going out. for one driving the skyline everyday after it has been painted its in a more high risk of vandallism (i live in gosnells). also i will like to keep my car sercret to friends as in what it has got done to it or what i am going to do it. also i reckon it will be good because if i was doing mods to it i will atleast have another car for work. now for the important thing is that fuel prices are just rising and i am spending around 80 to 160 a week on fuel and only getting around about 450 to 480ks.

i would like a reconmondation on what car is good for everyday use at a low price and that wont break down on me all the time, was thinking of a carolla, just wanting to ask yous what yous drive (thats if you have a second car)

Thanks heaps

Gordon

I used to use my old corolla KE70.... Nice gutsy little 1.3L 4 Cylinder.. Rear wheel drive 5speed.. Used to put about $35 a week of fuel into it (thats when fuel was like $1.10).

Old car but damn it was reliable. Drove it across the nullabor even and it didn't break down..

I bought a corolla once as a daily to do up my old UC Torana 2dr. Was driving to work and the crankshaft snapped. So yeah, you can beat a corolla :)

I was thinking a 180SX as a daily. They aren't that dear nowadays. 150rwhp wouldn't be so bad.

but how long will the 180sx remain a daily, before the mods start? hmmmm. too tempting.

Bike/Public Transport/Bumming Rides FTW!

I used to drice a KB laser, snapped two engine mounts drive so i just welded them to the block. Good fun. I would get another if i had to get an everyday driver.

Cheers,

Andrew

flash89 - you will need to get a pre AE86 'rolla if you want rwd.

but even still, a fwd one will be fine. my first car was a 1989 ford laser, 1.6L fwd, ran on the smell of an oily rag. :P

    • Hi GTSBoy, Excuse my ignorance but what does a "Bad" Knee point mean ?
    • HFM BM57 has a "bad" knee point, IIRC. It's not the same thing as the later R chassis MC.
    • The ATTESSA is functionally identical to R34; there were a bunch of JDM models that continued ATTESSA including Fuga/Q70, Skyline/Q50, Cima etc as an option. All with Auto only and I think mostly for snow regions. AFAIK there were no AWD VR30DDTT sold in Australia - it is on my to do list to check regs for racing a LHD car in Targa/ATR/AASA/CAMS events because if I can get the auto to work it would be interesting to run a 4wd car The Ecuteck TCM tuning is the same model as their ECU tuning, they already have it for R35 and Dose's favourite, BMW. You buy "points" to allow your computer to be tuned, buy either a bluetooth (phone app) or bluetooth+USB+Key (phone and PC) dongle, and pay for a tune that will be locked to your tuner ( ). You can also access the tuning software yourself but 1. it is mega expensive and 2. these computers have a billion parameters that intersect, so how could you ever spend enough time on it to get a decent result.
    • Or, is it a case of what it is like owning an R series Skyline? NFI what the previous owner has done or fiddled with... Ha ha ha After reading through this thread, I went on a bit of a research about the Q50/Q60. Now I'm quite intrigued by them! Is the AWD in them more like a WRX where it's always AWD, or is it more like the ATTESSA in the GTRs? By the sound of this TCU tuning, this sounds like a case of someone has made some real software for it, and you just need the right piece of hardware, and then you license that specific vehicle/TCU. Or is this a case of the software will be really expensive so only a few tuners have it, and you still have to pay a license per vehicle?
    • By popular demand.. it was a coil. Got my hands on 1 new OEM coil, replaced with the one that made the less noise difference when I unplugged it while the car was running and started the car up. No stutter and the engine light was gone. I guess I’ll buy the other 5 they have lol
