I'm going overseas to work for 4 - 5 years. I have a nice GTR32, new turbos, new power fc, new springs/shocks, 281 RWKW, nice straight body, good paint, car is basically well looked after. My question is, is it wise to store a car for 5 yrs, not being started in that time. Storage will set me back approx $960/yr in melbourne (~$5K for 5 yrs).

Selling it?. I don't really want to sell my baby, i've spent $10K plus on the little bitch so far, getting it up to a level i'm happy with, & theres no way i'll make $30 K on a sale, which is what I think it's worth, so what to do, sell or store??????

A lot changes in 5 years. If you have made the decision to go overseas for that length of time, I would sell it. Why not break it to recoup a bit more?

It will also need someone to go and crank it every so often as just put away for 5 years, will probably result in a some corrosion and or seizing.

My 2c.

I have been posted in O/S for so called 5 year stinits and never been there more than a year...every time I cam back I was happy to have a beast to drive as soon as I got home...I usually give mine to my dad to drive - cos I can trust him!

as stated a lot can change...5 years can be 5 months and u may wish u kept it...if ur 100% sure ur not comming back for ages then sell.

a. sell it

b. if you are adamant that you DONOT want to sell at all, find a good friend you can trust and you could lease it to him ( he pays the insurance and ani problme for the car and probabli pays you a lil bit of money as lease to you) this way you will make about a grand every year on it and the car will be there for you when you come back

I'm going to the UK to work. Someone suggested I take it with me use it there & sell it before I come back. Thats all a bit too hard for me, I suppose I may as well sell it over here, or lend it to a good home like julion.

Its hard putting any seriously modified car through compliance, it is more hassle than its worth. I wouldnt like to be running one of these in the UK unless you have landed yourself a job paying very well also.

www.autotrader.co.uk will give you an idea of cars and prices. Do a google search for a UK postcode and search from there. Can't give you mine as it is specific down to the street so you would know to within 20 houses where my parents live!lol :)

Take the bitch with you.......I mean if you loved a girl the way you love your car...

how could you let someone else climb in her and start her motor to warm her up ;)

Seriously if money is not a problem, take it over there......there are Skyline Clubs in England aswell.

Take it there and then bring it back. They have people there that can service and look after it too. ;)

I think for personal cars(find out anyway) ,compliancing is not needed. After the 5 years bring her back.

I have a gtr DVD taken in England and everything is like it is in Australia.

Any way...good luck with your choice.

    • I have more than enough digging, laying blocks, moving gravel, airrating, feeding and top soiling the grass, and setting up the veggie gardens growing some seedlings,  and then removing all the unused rock to keep me busy for the next few months at least,  hopefully the rain stops soon so I can get a few hours in this arvo, but, before that Sunday is washing day, is every body happy, you bet your life we are Nice country road day drives are a day off whenever I'm muscle sore from all the landscaping at the moment, but, more epic multiple day drives will start once the majority of the big jobs outside are completed

    • I thought I'd come back and add something I JUST learned. A Toyota LandCruiser with a 1HZ, mates perfectly with a bottle of Nulon brake fluid. As in, it perfectly screws in. Great make shift funnel when you cut the bottom of it off. This may work for your Corolla.   Unfortunately, tipping a 10L drum is much harder than a 4 to 6L bottle, and they no longer include the easy pour tap which was just perfection to use previously.
    • Guys since i bought r33 gts25t coupe 1994 automatic a/t(manual swap 350z gearbox)  all i got is problems, always problems. Lets start with that when i turn key into ignition(ON) fuel pump doesnt always works. Sometimes i have to turn key twice Off/on/off/on until it primes. Its new, dw300 - 340lph. My gearbox broke so i did gearbox swap, install different intake manifold, injectors and i take pipes. Car was sitting in garage for more than half a year. I did assembly all not that long ago and when i turn ignition cant hear prime. All of sudden it stopped working. Theres many videos on YouTube how to make relay mod on r33 straight from battery so i did and it doesnt work! 😰 30 - battery positive  87 - positive from fuel pump to relay 85, 86 - one of two wires from original fuel pump wires(light blue, grey) and it didn’t work. so I check on ignition and took original BLUE relays wires from trunk, next to fuses. (I believe it’s IGN+ and ECU pin 18. it didn’t work…  tried connecting (IGN+ from og relay) and (ECU 104 from 1of4 FPCM wires) to my new relay 85/86 and it didn’t work.  I unplug FPCM. Didn’t work. im thinking what’s wrong   fuel pump is working, if I leave IGN+ on 85 and 86 straight to ground it works but it’s just nonstop. Since it getting constant 12v after key in ON. light blue wire gives me 6-8v.  so how this should be connected? What causing ECU not giving — on pin? Or I did sth wrong and that’s why it doesn’t work? I need negative signal on ECU that control fuel pump. What this should be?
