Need to either clean or replace my air filter, atm i got a HKS mushroom one on that is really dirty, but i heard it isnt too good and i should jus scrap it and buy a new apexi style one.

Wat do u guys reckon, should i jus clean the mushroom one or buy a new apexi style one.

P.S. is there any difference b/w buying a real apexi or a fake $40 one that they sell at autobahn?

I have a hks musroom too, it was filthy. It went all crumbly when I took it out. Just replace it, costs $50 from justjap, genuine HKS too.

This is wat i am afraid of,

Should i get a real apexi one or just a $40 copy if i decide to replace it?

Just use an Apexi panel and get the stock airbox back on unless you need to run huge power. My GTR runs the same size panel as the GTSt's with 260rwkw so decent power is not a problem, it just has more air inlets to the box and that can be corrected with a with of imagination and cutting and ducting. Plus you can then run a decent front mount without defect.

Why would you clean an HKS filter element? They are a single use throw away item.

Purchase a new element for it as mentioned above, cost is around $50, and you then have a brand new filter.

Just Jap has them on their website

One thing you will notice though is that the hks pod makes a lot more noise than the apexi. Therefore, theoretically, it should flow more.

However, this would be at mega power levels. At stockish power levels, any extra flow won't give more power.

On a 1000kw car, it probably would.

Completely wrong.

Just because it makes more noise doesn't mean it flows more. It could be increased turbulence causing the noise, or greater restriction, ie blow a certain mass(at the same temperature) of air through 2 vastly different sized orifices in the same amount of time....the smaller orifice makes much more noise due to increased turbulence and restriction so more effort or pressure is required to do the same job resulting in a less efficient delivery. Equate this to the smaller filtering surface area and the turbo dragging the air through. Also in terms of sound pressures, if noise is coming out that is causing a negative pressure wave in the intake. Bottom line, HKS filters are complete junk. There was a HKS panel in my GTR and the amount of sediment lying in the bottom of my airbox after the filter was worrying.

Correct that stock power levels would be around the same but better flow means better response. The important thing though is clean air and HKS clearly fails that criteria from both my personal experience and others' testing.

What the testing shows is the boost produced by the car with each filter, of which the Apexi and then Blitz were the best (highest) with SARD and HKS the worst, and the filtering ability for the medium used for which the Apexi performed best and the HKS about the worst. I have another similar study on my other computer that I'll post if I remember.

I don't like them because they are oiled, so can introduce oil onto the AFM element and they don't clean very well. They also state they are for race only therefore call doubts about legality for road use.

Read the above I have posted. Will your non turbo GTS-4 be pulling more power than my GTR? Stick with the stock (but modified for extra air inlets) airbox and use an Apexi filter panel and protect your engine. Would you use really crap oil in the engine? Why introduce dust that will increase wear more than some oils?

Sure it doesn't look as cool, but if you wanted to be cool you'd have a GTR or RZ Supra or late model RX-7 :(

    • The 296mm rotors are the R33 turbo brakes. The 310mm rotors are the R34 turbo brakes. The calipers are nearly the same, but not. They're the same caliper but the R34 caliper has longer legs so that it sits out far enough to go over the rotor. The pads are the same for both. When you say, "I bough tsome EBC"....did you just mean pads? Or rotors? 310mm rotors fit under 17" wheels. There may be some wheels without enough clearance though. I can't fit my fingers between the barrel of my wheel and the "corners" of my R34 calipers, but there is plenty of room behind the spokes. This is on Enkei RPF1. You can fit 324mm rotors inside a 17" wheel, but I'd be willing to bet that it would be close to impossible with the Nissan/Sumitomo caliper (using an adapter, of course), because the Sumitomo caliper is fatter than the Brembo caliper that is supposed to go on the 324mm rotors.
    • Hi. Can someone tell me what brakes(and mainly WHERE) can i buy brakes on R34 GTT? I bought some EBC which SHOULD go on my car(i have GT but it has GTT brakes) but it does not fit, Brakes are "too" small(296mm) Are 310mm be good or? I have 17 inch wheel so no "big boys" but for me driving i just need one that fits and i can get here in EU/Czech.
    • Since winter isn't that harsh anymore in Poland, i will definetely drive it 365 days a year 😉. But if the snow hits i will try it for sure and let U know. Only swap i am planning to do is of course R34 GTR front 😍.
    • Hey. Very valuable information about pitwork, I will pay attention when buying any consumable parts 🙏 As for the carpets - I got a handful of information from nengun, from which it appears that indeed the carpets for the driver's side are OEM. They are not able to show me any pictures due to the long chain of different sales entities but after I place the order, as soon as the goods arrive at the nengun warehouse from which they will send the shipment to me they can send me photos and if my purchase differs from OEM I can immediately return it / cancel the purchase. I think I will give it a try 😉. Of course i'll let you know what's what as soon as i get them P.s. I know the topic is not relevant to the thread, but both nengun and amayama have these SICK 😍 trunk room lamps available. Do you know anyone who ordered them? I need to have one in my car
