Lakeside Motor Racing Enthusiasts has confirmed that the tender submitted by Motorcycling Australia has been rejected by the Pine Rivers Shire Council. Only the Police Citizens Youth Club, Total Driver and Queensland Raceway remain in the race for the management rights of the historic Lakeside International Raceway.

In a fax from John Rauber of the PRSC,

“Council has considered the submissions from organisations wishing to undertake the management and enhancement of facilities at Lakeside and at MP06/1888 [council meeting minutes] has resolved to conduct further negotiations and due diligence for three of the submissions.”

LMRE president Ian Milton said,

“The motorcycling community helped build Lakeside over the past four decades and would’ve been quite capable of running the facility.”

“We are confident that any of the remaining tenderers will be able to operate Lakeside in a fair and financially viable manner provided they are not encumbered by overly restrictive Council policies.”

Mr Rauber stated,

“It is expected a final decision on the successful operator will be made soon, with contracts completed before the end of the year.”

Whilst LMRE is disappointed with the slow decision making process, the members are hopeful that the Pine Rivers Shire Council will soon provide part of the solution to reduce hooning and racing on public streets.

Paul,

I attended a Total Driver trackday at Lakeside recently, and lets just say that the noise levels that have been put in place by the council are fairly strict....

there are certain parts of the circuit where it has been patched that the tyres squeel on when you drive over them, and lets just say, we were given strict instructions that basically any tyre noise = end of racing for you... also, cars with pretty much any louder than stock exhausts were a no-go....

Dammit, I can't wait to get up there and run for council.......

One of the fastest GTR's down here is the Racepace GTR which does 1.15 at Sandown (V8SC 1.11) is dead quiet so noise is not a real problem, but it is an attractive factor of motor sport. Why go to a rock concert if they aren't damaging your hearing?

So then whats the point of reopening lakeside if we cant make any noise

Group buy of land surrounding Lakeside Raceway?.... I woould rather wake to the noise of 'Brraaaap...BRAAAPAAaaappp!!! in the morning rather than some weener birds.

I also love the idea. A quick lap before work, mmmm.

If the noise requirements are that strict then we are out of the game. I love the sound of a GTR on full noise with a set of side pipes.

Paul

I love Lakeside far more than noisey cars!

And I personally hope QR do not get it. They are bad for club level motorsport, effectively pricing the reigon's sporting car clubs out of QR a few years ago when they decided they could get more money by running thier own sprint series on weekends. Council were looking for a consortium to manage the facility as a shared enterprise, so hopefully that will see PCYC and Total Driver in the best position, as QR will only be in it for the commercial opportunity.

Peronally, I think LMRE did some good work earlier wrt Lakeside and holding PRSC to account for thier actions. But now that PRSC are actually going out of their way to re-open the facility I'm concerned LMRE may be doing more harm than good by hounding the Council over every little detail. Be thankful for the big picture victory, and let PRSC go about doing their thing in peace for a while. Did you really expect any level of goverment to run any sort of project on-time? patience LMRE! rather than having a dig at Council for rejecting one of the proposals, be thankful that it is one more step towards choosing a successful candidate!

Hi Guys,

Check out these recent media articles about the effort to re-open Lakeside Raceway on Brisbane's northside - the fat lady hasn't sung yet!

I've got a couple of recent newspaper articles to share with everyone, but I didn’t want to hog space, so if you want to read the detail in full size, click here to go to www.lakesideraceway.com/news.htm.

What do you guys think about getting a dedicated motorsport facility for Brisbane's north-side?

Scott

this is only a guess, but, in a single word

no

I believe this due to the extremely strict noise restrictions that are going to have to be imposed.

as well as the track now being toted as an 'environmentally friendly' track, i don't think they'd appreciate people sending huge plumes of tyre smoke into the atmosphere.

also, drifting is gay

    • Hi guys, just after some guidance with an R34 sunroof that has stopped working correctly. It still opens and closes perfectly fine, but it no longer tilts/vents up or down. As a result, the rear of the glass now sags a bit as it drops down slightly in order to retract into the roof, but now it can't pop upwards into a flush position. I’ve probed the pins on the back of the switch connector with a multimeter and it seems like both switches (for open/close and tilt/vent) still work correctly. Any ideas on what it could be, or where I should even start in terms of diagnosing? I'm sure someone's had this issue before but I haven't been able to find anything online relating to this specific issue, most of the issues are with the seals leaking or the motor failing entirely. Thanks in advance!
    • Do you have some data like fuel pressure? It's really hard to say if you're still fighting a fuel system issue at this point. Could be something weird like the FPCM dipping out.
    • Yeah in that case, pulling the dent out. Event a very slight dent can create a lot of work filler-wise and there is a strong chance the panel won't be the factory shape when you are done (as the dent will result in a new high point created somewhere, then everything is brought up to that new high point... but the panel shouldn't be that high if that makes sense).  So you've filled and primed the panel and it is flat, why would you go back and remove the primer and add more filler?
    • Something else I have been faffing with while the car was off the road is making the AC work. Assuming the car isn't at a thermal limit the idea of having AC while waiting in line to go on track sounds delightful. I have actually been lugging around the weight of the entire system since 2018 when the RB25NEO went in without it working at all.  The main reason was in the first few events before I got around to re-gassing it the rubber hose that runs under the manifold had the factory heat wrap/sleeve fail resulting in this: ~2 years ago I purchased a complete used R32 AC line set but when I finally went to install it the line i needed was different where the expansion section is I found a local place that was able to replace the rubber section and re-crimp. They also added some modern heat sleeve to the hose Tight fit but fingers crossed this is the last physical piece of the puzzle needed
    • the top black section is bonded to the silver section with some form of rubber. I assume to isolated NVH from the box
