The pin configuration is different but as long as you are handy with a soldering iron, you should be able to work it out yourself

P.S. It won't work on the stock ECU, only aftermarket.

well, off the top of my head i cannot list one honda vtec car that actually runs boost. running a map sensor from my understanding in an n/a car is no problem, but because a turbo car will reach maximum boost, usually at the latest by 5000rpm, that leaves another 2000rpm in this case, in which the map sensor will be utterly useless, and thus make tuning alot more "rough" so to speak.

Just because an engine produces 369rwkw with an AFM doesnt mean the AFM isnt causing a restriction and that there is nothing wrong with the AFM as you say. Your logic is to look at the end result without a proper control (ie no AFM) which is nothing but inviable.

Honda and certain toyotas run MAP. Have you driven a vtec-powered car?

Youre always the first to say if its not needed than dont buy it. Well what about this case? The afm isnt needed and unless youre a track racer where a split second counts the AFM isnt needed at all. He can save himself money on not buying an AFM.

what kind of aftermarket ECU should I be looking at???

Totally agree with everything below though I think the wolf is about the 1100 mark (that said it doesnt compare to the pfc and i would never recommend it even though i have one).

My bad regarding cost and AFM + CPU.

My tuner has expirience with both MAF and MAP applications for the RB's.

If he tells me in his expertise that the AFM is not a restriction, then i'll believe him based on his testing and applications.

I trusted his judgement and made more power than anyone else said was possible at the time.

When a PowerFC is $900, and the AFM $250-$300 thats $1200.

Would i be right in saying a MAP based ECU is a little more expensive in most cases?

The closest that comes to mind is $1400 at the very least. I think more decent are wire-in at a $2000+ cost

So cost for cost, the AFM + PowerFC Combo will works out cheaper.

As stated he is in Vic, and *most* tuners will prefer to use a PowerFC down here as opposed to anything else.

aphid is spot on

pressure != volume

on an n/a car anything on the intake is a restriction so they need as little crap in the way as possible. on a turbocharged car this is not true as restrictions lie after the compressor outlet.

CHANGE OF SUBJECT!!!!!!!!

gonna put a new full exaust on my r33 97". What is the meximum db can it be before I cop fine from the coppers???

90 decibels in QLD, should be about the same in NSW and VIC

Hello everyone.....

I was flicking through a "high performance imports magazine" and I saw an ad for a high performance engine rebuild kit for a RB25-DET. It consists of:

  • Venolia forged pistons
  • Grant chrome rings
  • R.E.V. I-Beam forged conrods
  • Tomei metal head gasket
  • Genuine Nissan full engine gasket kit

All of this is for $3999

Is all of this stuff at a good price or not???????

cheers :P

So what are the new goals then?

New budget?

This time I now want 2 achieve around 250rwkw - 300rwkw. Money isn't a really big issue but I would like 2 know the most cost efficient way?????

Question:

Will I have 2 change my standard turbo in order 2 do this??? If so then what would you recomend?????

I was thinking of buying a HKS GT2530 what do you think????

Cheers :)

    • A few small updates since the previous post and lessons. I decided to do a little interior light upgrade on the 110. I quite like the iilumo items, even if they're a bit of a premium over other brands. You'll also note the Stedi Fogs, that will go into the S15 fog lights as I needed to match the bulbs since I got the new ones earlier. I hope they fit as the body is quite a bit longer than your normal bulb.  Annoyingly, I managed to trip the fuse, which normally wouldn't be an issue until I located the fuse. I can't say I've ever come across this. I had lucked out that someone nearby had a spare, but oddly enough Toyota dealerships seem to keep this in stock. I ordered some to keep in my stash and as luck would have it, someone else nearby tripped the same fuse so I passed on the favour.  I also did a little service on the 110 ahead of some additional work coming up. It's been annoying that Goleby's stopped carrying this particular HKS filter for the 110, so now I need to keep them on order from Japan. I also took the opportunity to install a bash plate and number plate riser. The plate riser is such a cheap but nice fix to help really tidy up the car. I'm tempted to now also replace my headlights, on this car. Both items were from Project Aero.    I also needed to replace the rear tyres on the 110, and after trying to get it aligned learnt that I need to replace some bushes in the front end, so that's next.  Closing out this update with a nicer picture as always!
    • Yeah mate, never miss it.
    • Any going to watch World Time Attack at SMSP this year?
    • Appreciate the correction on the "ground", that will make a huge difference to looking at this. That makes complete sense about AF70/AF71 which is what I had come down to being the issue, one of these. I'll have another look in the ignition wiring when I get a chance next week. I'll also make up a jumper wire for running that AF73 test.  ECU is fine, relay itself is fine, pump harness is fine and the pump itself is fine. I am going to upgrade the Walbro 255 anyway with a DW300 I have since I need to replace the fuel sender and I'm going to upgrade the FPR with my chasebays kit ready for new plenum/injectors/dbw, but I'll get this working first. That's why this is so frustrating.
