looking at all the new cars coming out, most just seem to be based of old models, or a mix of other cars. the new commodore looks like a lexus front and falcon rear. the new camry looks like the front was taken straight off a mazda 3 or 6. the new evo shown on a thread on here looks like it is a mazda 6 body, with silvia headlights.

are we getting to a point where the designers are running out of ideas? or is it just a phase where the designers are being told to copy other companies by the marketing people? but there are only a few companies that seem to be keeping to their own designs.

If you look at just family sedans of course the styling will be conservative and trend-following.

Remember what happened with the AU Falcon when Ford decided to be bold with the styling - yes it got shat on by everybody. Hard.

Leave the out-of-bounds styling for the hot hatches and the sports cars please.

The direction of car design is getting worse and worse... imo the worst part on all new cars is that they ALL have this obsession with making the doors really big and dead plain looking. It looks like no thought has gone into them at all and consequently, from side views all these cars look the same!!

Everyone makes 'em in a wind tunnel

With a computer

With economy of material

Designers are the guys who just fob-em off too people and decide what colour badge and how big its going too wear along with the 'options' package of plastic, colour and other factory bolt on bits.

I'm not suprised.

But no sir I dont like the dull eye for a straight guy in car design lately.

alot of graphic design looks the same. alot of architecture looks the same. designers go with the current trends, so stop with this 'ewww, its a toyota/holden/ford/audi...' crap. all design has influences...so no, mad082 designers arnt copying eachother, and are not running out of ideas, its just ppl in design follow similar styles

dude, go have a cry about it. all i was simply saying is that in the past they have managed to design things that looked different, but in the past few months the cars everyone is coming out with just look like they haven't done any new designing. kind of like if you forgot to do your homework when you were at school and just copied of a friends.

Look at family cars 20 years ago, they all looked very similar then too, this entire argument is stupid, they look similar now ofcourse and at the end of the day they all have 4 doors, big boot and engine and have to be aerodynamically efficient so i don't know what you are expecting. Maybe you should give it a go

Have to agree with that. You surprise your usual customer base with something too far off what they were expecting (which is usually a trendy evolution) then you end up with an AU situation.

how did an xd falcon look like a vb commodore. for starters, the xd falcon looks like it was based off a shoe box.

and then they went with something different again and came up with the BA falcon, which sold shitloads.

there are plenty of car manufacturers that can come up with new ideas, but some that don't seem to do any work at all.

Yeah you are, right, they are completely different, my god i only see it now, its hard to believe they were released in the same century they are so vastly different, unlike today!

they went with the BA design cause it was a safe design. they wernt gonna make the same mistake twice. the BA is not sumthin completly different. it kept within the design trends, unlike the AU that was like a big soggy looking egg.

remember, holden and ford have to appeal to a massive target market. gota keep ther design appealing to a broad audience.

Hi

I like the Hommer-Simpson car......great to look at and fun to be in.

Every one missed the whole point of that episode.

We unfortunately are in the......If you f**k up this car design your sacked era.

Know one wants to get a bit wacky with design and do anything different.

Mass public comformity

Cheers

    • A few small updates since the previous post and lessons. I decided to do a little interior light upgrade on the 110. I quite like the iilumo items, even if they're a bit of a premium over other brands. You'll also note the Stedi Fogs, that will go into the S15 fog lights as I needed to match the bulbs since I got the new ones earlier. I hope they fit as the body is quite a bit longer than your normal bulb.  Annoyingly, I managed to trip the fuse, which normally wouldn't be an issue until I located the fuse. I can't say I've ever come across this. I had lucked out that someone nearby had a spare, but oddly enough Toyota dealerships seem to keep this in stock. I ordered some to keep in my stash and as luck would have it, someone else nearby tripped the same fuse so I passed on the favour.  I also did a little service on the 110 ahead of some additional work coming up. It's been annoying that Goleby's stopped carrying this particular HKS filter for the 110, so now I need to keep them on order from Japan. I also took the opportunity to install a bash plate and number plate riser. The plate riser is such a cheap but nice fix to help really tidy up the car. I'm tempted to now also replace my headlights, on this car. Both items were from Project Aero.    I also needed to replace the rear tyres on the 110, and after trying to get it aligned learnt that I need to replace some bushes in the front end, so that's next.  Closing out this update with a nicer picture as always!
    • Yeah mate, never miss it.
    • Any going to watch World Time Attack at SMSP this year?
    • Appreciate the correction on the "ground", that will make a huge difference to looking at this. That makes complete sense about AF70/AF71 which is what I had come down to being the issue, one of these. I'll have another look in the ignition wiring when I get a chance next week. I'll also make up a jumper wire for running that AF73 test.  ECU is fine, relay itself is fine, pump harness is fine and the pump itself is fine. I am going to upgrade the Walbro 255 anyway with a DW300 I have since I need to replace the fuel sender and I'm going to upgrade the FPR with my chasebays kit ready for new plenum/injectors/dbw, but I'll get this working first. That's why this is so frustrating.
