Flash89
hey there guys was just wondering what is a better size rim, 17 or 18s. just shopping around at the moment to make my car look good. i have been told that having 18 on my car, my ride will be too ruff on bumbs on these types of roads. be using my car on track days too. car will used sometime for drift so will be using the stockies for that. just wonder what you guys think is better in the choice of 17 or 18s Thanks Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/132716-17-or-18/ Share on other sites
alpinestars
16s ftw dude cheap nah i have 17s cheap on tread and can dump it more if u get lower profiles but f*kts up velocity on the ride to read an inaccurate speedo reading Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/132716-17-or-18/#findComment-2459616 Share on other sites
Kaido_RR
Using basic statics formals, it seems that 17inch rims would be better than 18inch when i can be f**kd... i will explain why or alpinestars should know why so he can explain it for me Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/132716-17-or-18/#findComment-2459643 Share on other sites
Mr. Oizo
im pretty sure that 17s have better traction because of the larger tyre profile so more sidewall flex 18s would have better handling because of the smaller tyre profile and less sidewall flex feel free to correct me if im wrong Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/132716-17-or-18/#findComment-2459667 Share on other sites
Flash89
what about the driveability? Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/132716-17-or-18/#findComment-2459699 Share on other sites
Mr. Oizo
what about the driveability? 17s will be more comfortable to drive on because of the larger tyre profile 18s will be bumpier, and you will feel the road more not really sure what you mean by driveability Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/132716-17-or-18/#findComment-2459705 Share on other sites

Munkyb0y
the ride comfort depends on your suspension set up. the wheels wont make or break it. Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/132716-17-or-18/#findComment-2459964 Share on other sites
n15m0
18s are still bearable IMO....once u start going to 19s and 20s then u'll sarifice ride comfort... But if you're planning to do track work in these wheels then 17s would be the go. bnr#@
17s would weight less then 18" so less unsprung weight making for better handling Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/132716-17-or-18/#findComment-2460545 Share on other sites
Mr. Oizo
17s would weight less then 18" so less unsprung weight making for better handling if its the exact same model of wheel, yes but you could be looking at a cast 17" wheel vs a forged 18" wheel Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/132716-17-or-18/#findComment-2460553 Share on other sites

JUNR34
Also 17s tyres will cost less then 18s, but if I have enough money I would go for 18s haha lookswise. Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/132716-17-or-18/#findComment-2469518 Share on other sites
