I was taking the piss out of Porsches... glorified VW beetles :)

-> beetle pre-dates the 911

beetle - mid 1930s

911 - 1963ish?

Yeah but thats the prototypes yeah? You had the 356 porsches which were production. Im going to have to double check now!

man thatd be some snappy throttle response - no exactly a long inlet tract. Super responsive, with the filter right on the compressor. would spool up sharpish, hey. What a weapon of a car.

But... friken TEXAS plates? YEEEEHAAAWWWW i gots me a ROCKET car, momma!!! Look maw, no hands!!!

Occasionally the Yanks suprise me and come up with some SERIOUS motorsport vehicles. There was a AWESOME WRX 2 door that someone had built from the ground up(...LTS Jayce scrabbling to find the link...)that was a pure weapon, this Porka is a good run at the 'serious' tag, plus a few well thought out mudderboikes. Mostly,I'm left at the toilet bowl, awaiting the next bout of vomitting as they produce some riced out,2F2F or boat-with-big-horsepower-but-can't-turn-or-stop P.O.S. ... So,the Porsche gets my thumbs up!

The yanks build some really nice cars, aswell as nice parts to go in them, just that there are simply so many examples over there the majority of 'ricers' that we see are bound to be shlt.

I've seen a lot of nice euro's come out of the US.

there's lots of fabricators in the US that do some very good quality work. for example see the thread about "ATTESA trim levels" that I posted some pics of an R32 GTR drivetrain graft onto a silvia in.

Unfortunately these guys are eclipsed by over sensationalised and better marketed builders/fabricators... and as a result no one other than their local customer base gets to appreciate their work.

saw this a while ago, heres the guys forum link, theres links in the first page to the build up:

pretty much all the engine mods are custom lol. The silver tanks are intake plenums which sit above individual throttles. Random things like complete custom made loom and piping and etc.

That thing is so full of awesomes.

    • Heh. I copied the link to the video direct, instead of the thread I mentioned. But the video is the main value content anyway. Otherwise, yes, in Europe, surely you'd be expected to buy local. Being whichever flavour of Michelin, Continental or Pirelli suits your usage model.
    • Continental have consistently beaten the absolute shit out of every other performance tyre in Wet/Damp/Cold conditions and give up a little bit of time (half a second at most) in the dry. Almost like it's engineered for German conditions or something. I'd def give those a try.
    • I refer you to this thread on PF, by someone who knows what he's doing. Paints a good picture of the humble AD09.
    • Ha, I've never pressed the X in all these years incase it removed the notification for all Admins
    • I don't know, I've never done it that way, but 1. While it is an interference engine, there is still clearance between the valves and the piston at all points in the regular timing cycle 2. There is not a lot of distance before you can't catch the top of the valve stem any more I don't know if 2 is greater or less than 1. But 3. If it doesn't work out you are f**ked, engine is coming out to disassemble so it is a big bet.
