Hey guys,

Not everyone cares or knows but I signed up to SAU ages ago when I was looking to buy a 32 4 door. I stayed because people were cool and ended up buying a cefiro. I've since sold the cefiro to pay debts and free up cash flow for moving places. So I downgraded (sorry r31 guys but it is a downgrade) to a r31 as a low budget drifting project.

The plan is basically massage some power from it with some turbo'ing (rb30e+t), put in s13 suspension gear, weld diff and drift on. If I come into some cash a mechanical would be the prefered option. A coat of paint and some "home-styled" bodywork wouldn't go astray either.

This is where it gets a little difficult - I live in the city and have no garage.

So... I'm after 2 things. Either advice, or help.

Advice:

What would you do? Where would you build it? Obviously things like "mate's house" and things like can be considered as already added to the list of options :P General advice would be welcome

Help:

Basically I don't see anyone letting me leave my car and working on it at their house - that's fine. If you're a business however I'm prepared to let you sticker my car to shit (even paint job is up for grabs, depending how nice you are) if I can use some of your tools, garage and some knowledge. I'd get my own insurance and if we can work out some labour rate I can even pay you (although not heaps, otherwise if I had lots of money I'd just drop it off at grey imports and let Nathan do it all).

Also if you're a home mechanic (and for some reason trustworthy sort on the forums) then maybe we can arrange something like I come round for a day, pay you and we work together on it? I dono..

So.. I guess I'm just asking for help.

I'd probably need a combined total of a week or two in spanner time spread over many months to get my car up to track ready. First thing to do would simply be install s13 coilovers, front control arms, s13 brakes and some rear hats... It should take me under 1 day, assuming I don't screw anything up or run out of parts (i.e. a bolt here or a bolt there.)

Then in a couple of months I'd hopefully have gotten my hands on a VLT ECU and some injectors... but that's another story...

cc, kyle is your man, he moonlights as fixer of all things car and is very cheap....he has done a heap of the frankenstein stuff Pete does :O he's helped us with motor in and out a few times.

Thanks for the response Duncan.

Who is Kyle? :(

I got a quote from Nathan at Grey Imports. He fears litigation/WorkCover issues with me around (fair enough too). The quote is very fair price and I trust his work but it throws the budget out a lot :\ It's not that I'm unwilling I'm just unable ....

So.. yeah who's Kyle and how do I get in touch with him without being rude?

mr cc

kyle is based in newcastle. he is a mechanic, and knows nissans especially r31s like the tip of his penis

will come down to sydney for car work etc

no job too small

he is a r31 enthusiast, which automatically qualifies him as being a top bloke

i have pm'd you his number

he is top notch, and cheap

give him a call

iof you have any dramas with parts, let me know

cheers, mark

yeah I totally understand,.......story of my life is trying to build the race car as cheap as possible, its not a never-ending pile of money for spending on toys :)

I'm not sure of kyle's nick on here, although I have seen him here....best way would be to pm pete/fatz for his number.

Shit yeah. I was slightly becoming scared that I was stuck for good.

Thanks very much for your help guys. Will give him a ring and Mark I will take you up on that sometime down the line I'm sure.

I haven't been having the easiest time recently so you geezers have made this puppy a little happier ... thanks!

    • Ok I get you. But isn’t the butterfly intake a headache with the +T?  see this is my plan so far but please advise me into the right direction.  Nistune Ecu, 1000cc Bosch injectors, TD05 or TD06 Kinugawa turbo using stock rb25det exhuast manifold, walbro fuel pump unsure of model I think it’s 450/460, spitfire coils and sparks to suit and a R35 MAF sensor and boost sensor.    I was thinking maybe do a cheap eBay plenum $400-500 or try find a stock det neo intake. I think I’d port match it so it’s getting the full capacity but open to advice please.  Thanks
    • The issue now is the 'fuel cut' while driving, and when it happend, it does not stall. This, I did not test the fuel pressure while driving as I cannot with a fuel pressure gauge. I do have Nistune logs, yes. I have also replaced the MAF Sensor.   Also related to the FPG Fuel Hanger – I just realized that I need a Deutsch Crimp Tool to crimp some cables for the FPG Fuel Hanger. Need to purchase additional cables as the kit only included 2, which are for the float. FPG has not responded to my emails so far since purchasing. I thought about taking it to someone and having it done professionally, but I am reluctant since everyone I took it to messed up in some way.
    • There's a good German place in Brisbane if youre up for the drive 😛
    • The German place in Cabramatta was rock solid, fresh pretzel cooked to order back then. Then it went all quiet, after all the poker machines were removed, then I believe it closed for good. I did drive past the other week and noticed outdoor lighting a big screen, but no idea what is there now.
    • Yeah I suspect even if you hold airmass per cycle/cylinder constant if you get too far away from stock you're still going to have problems running the factory tune within the bounds of the factory load scale. Cams, different displacement/rod ratio, etc. I'm just lucky that the GTIII-SS with wastegate boost + CA compliance cats is pretty much equivalent to stock turbos. When I have actual space I can finally get it tuned and modify the fuel system for flex fuel to 100% handle any detonation concerns when cranking the boost to whatever those dinky turbos can put out.
