Hey,

I’m Ben and I’m 18 and live in Brisbane. I’m extremely into skylines and im looking into buying my own r32 gts-t in the next 2 weeks and joining you guys in the sau community.

I will be buying a stock r32 so id like to get a body kit (amongst other things) for it, what type of kit should I get the Price isn’t an issue. If u know any websites, which has a variety of kits, I can look at please reply with the URL or the name of one that you like for me to look up.

Oh ok cool.

Will you be going performance or just making it look good.

Putting a bodykit on it straight away will look pretty strange on a stock r32.

Maybe go for some wheels first and then a bkit then concider lowering it. Theres a certain order of things you need to do sometimes.

i same body kit first, then u know what size rims will fit, then how low u can go.

i know

ahh wonderfull thanks for ur help well yeh i wasent only going to get a kit just its one of the things i needed a little help with ill be putting an exhaust, kit, wheels(rims tyres ect) steering wheel, shift knob, short shift kit and tinting those plus a few more when i get it just to get me started any way.

If the engines stock what do u need a short shift kit for :dry:

You should do the engine up a little bit before shit like that.

Full exhaust system: Larger diametre dump pipe, Headers, New cat, And a full cat back with a new muffler ;)

Pod filter and maybe cold air intake,

Boost controller and crank the boost up on the stock turbo to about 10 - 12 PSI

and a new BOV.

Thats just what id do if i had a gts-t but im not allowed one :wave:

Ask people on here about what the best brands and prices are and where/where not to go.

Also things like gear knobs and steering wheels arent to great unless you plan on turning your car into a boyracer, But its your car so go hard out :wave:

do u know any websites with definitions of each mod you can get or can u make me a list of stuff which most people have got done so i can look it up my self.

Your exaust system controlls your car emissions.. If you know how an engine works then you will know what the exhaust is used for.

Pod filter or air any sort of intake filters are your source of air induction, Again if you know how an engine works you will know why you need air intake.

Boost controllers set the amount of pressurised air being put into the engine from the turbo.

A compressor bypass valve (CPV) also known as a compressor relief valve is a vacuum-actuated valve designed to release pressure in the intake system of a turbocharged car when the throttle is lifted or closed. This air pressure is re-circulated back into the non pressurized end of the intake (before the turbo) but after the mass airflow sensor.

A blowoff valve, (BOV, sometimes hooter valve) does basically the same thing, but releases the air to the atmosphere. This creates a very distinctive sound desired by many who own turbocharged sports cars. Some blowoff valves are marketed with trumpet shaped exits that amplify the "psshh" sound. For some owners this is the only reason to fit a BOV.

i bought a stock r33 and built it up myself. trust me it isnt cheap and it never ends. if you can your way better off buying one in good condition but already with a kit youd like. Talk to steve69s@f**khotmail.com he's got a sweet r32 hes looking to part with but hasnt advertised yet.

dont get a kit without rims, it'll look totally stupid, and u'll get no "respect" wat so ever, which is what i think ull be wanting.

get kit and rims and suspension at the one time if possible. kit wise id go a do luck kit, with prolly some do luck rims if ur after look. then ull need it re-sprayed.

then exhaust, caus itll look ghey with a kit, rims, suspension with the stock exhaust.

then pod filter. boost controller & aftermarket computer. then some slotted rotors, good pads & decent fluid.

thats how i went with my R33, which ill tell u i had BEFORE i got my licence, and now im 19 and have an R32 gtr thats almost finished being built :ermm:

oh, and dont go driving like u stole it, caus u being inexperienced WILL crash

Why does everyone think a pod filter is better than the standard intake?? There have been countless tests of these filters and the winner was always the standard intake with an aftermarket panel filter!!

And the BOV is going to draw too much attention so if you can afford it, get the Stealth from GFB as it can be hand-switched between loud or full plumb-back settings. If you get an exhaust, do it right the first time and get good quality dumps from the turbo, an aftermarket cat that won't restrict the flow and a good solid cat-back exhaust that is legal!! First thing they look for is the BOV followed by the exhaust!!

Depending on what you want first here is a list of the common things to change to get it up to a beastie in the order I did them (sort of anyway).

Air Filter

Exhaust

Shocks and springs and pineapples

Strut braces

BOV

ECU (computer)

Boost Controler

Front Mount Intercooler (FMIC)

Fuel pump

Fuel pressure Regulator

Spark plugs Timing belt and water pump

Went back to standard BOV

Brake booster stop

turbo

Coming soon (or later)

disc rotors

injectors

HD sway bars

You may want to make it look good first, that is up to your own taste, I'm quite happy with the look, but the bonnet with the wheels was a great improvement and I dont have plans for anything else, whatever you do DO NOT use fibreglass for a front bar or side skirts, it just doesnt last.

    • I agree with everything else, except (and I'm rethinking this as it wasn't setup how my brain first though) if the sensor is at the end of a hose which is how it has been recommended to isolate it from vibrations, then if that line had a small hole in, I could foresee potentially (not a fluid dynamic specialist) the ability for it to see a lower pressure at the sensor. But thinking through, said sensor was in the actual block, HOWEVER it was also the sensor itself that broke, so oil pressure may not have been fully reaching the sensor still. So I'm still in my same theory.   However, I 100% would be saying COOL THE OIL DOWN if it's at 125c. That would be an epic concern of mine.   Im now thinking as you did Brad that the knock detection is likely due to the bearings giving a bit more noise as pressure dropped away. Kinkstah, drop your oil, and get a sample of it (as you're draining it) and send it off for analysis.
    • I myself AM TOTALLY UNPREPARED TO BELIEVE that the load is higher on the track than on the dyno. If it is not happening on the dyno, I cannot see it happening on the track. The difference you are seeing is because it is hot on the track, and I am pretty sure your tuner is not belting the crap out of it on teh dyno when it starts to get hot. The only way that being hot on the track can lead to real ping, that I can think of, is if you are getting more oil (from mist in the inlet tract, or going up past the oil control rings) reducing the effective octane rating of the fuel and causing ping that way. Yeah, nah. Look at this graph which I will helpfully show you zoomed back in. As an engineer, I look at the difference in viscocity at (in your case, 125°C) and say "they're all the same number". Even though those lines are not completely collapsed down onto each other, the oil grades you are talking about (40, 50 and 60) are teh top three lines (150, 220 and 320) and as far as I am concerned, there is not enough difference between them at that temperature to be meaningful. The viscosity of 60 at 125°C is teh same as 40 at 100°C. You should not operate it under high load at high temperature. That is purely because the only way they can achieve their emissions numbers is with thin-arse oil in it, so they have to tell you to put thin oil in it for the street. They know that no-one can drive the car & engine hard enough on the street to reach the operating regime that demands the actual correct oil that the engine needs on the track. And so they tell you to put that oil in for the track. Find a way to get more air into it, or, more likely, out of it. Or add a water spray for when it's hot. Or something.   As to the leak --- a small leak that cannot cause near catastrophic volume loss in a few seconds cannot cause a low pressure condition in the engine. If the leak is large enough to drop oil pressure, then you will only get one or two shots at it before the sump is drained.
    • So..... it's going to be a heater hose or other coolant hose at the rear of the head/plenum. Or it's going to be one of the welch plugs on the back of the motor, which is a motor out thing to fix.
    • The oil pressure sensor for logging, does it happen to be the one that was slowly breaking out of the oil block? If it is,I would be ignoring your logs. You had a leak at the sensor which would mean it can't read accurately. It's a small hole at the sensor, and you had a small hole just before it, meaning you could have lost significant pressure reading.   As for brakes, if it's just fluid getting old, you won't necessarily end up with air sitting in the line. Bleed a shit tonne of fluid through so you effectively replace it and go again. Oh and, pay close attention to the pressure gauge while on track!
    • I don't know it is due to that. It could just be due to load on track being more than a dyno. But it would be nice to rule it out. We're talking a fraction of a second of pulling ~1 degree of timing. So it's not a lot, but I'd rather it be 0... Thicker oil isn't really a "bandaid" if it's oil that is going to run at 125C, is it? It will be thicker at 100 and thus at 125, where the 40 weight may not be as thick as one may like for that use. I already have a big pump that has been ported. They (They in this instance being the guy that built my heads) port them so they flow more at lower RPM but have a bypass spring that I believe is ~70psi. I have seen 70psi of oil pressure up top in the past, before I knew I had this leak. I have a 25 row oil cooler that takes up all the space in the driver side guard. It is interesting that GM themselves recommend 0-30 oil for their Vette applications. Unless you take it to the track where the official word is to put 20-50w oil in there, then take that back out after your track day is done and return to 0-30.
