to me its an inexperience thing really.

<cut>

so in short.. TRAINING IS EVERYTHING.. NOT POWER

Yes, RWD is completely different to FWD.

Also, don't try going from a front-wheel biased AWD to a rear-wheel biased AWD, you will be in trouble!

Attitude and skill on the road is everything. Power is nothing without control.

Oh, I agree with most of Scathing post's in the thread, nice work :(

In regard to getting something done besides talking, action takes more effort than posting here...not that I'm volunteering :)

i say do it. these bloody p platers :)

do it for maybe 3yrs....then analyse the stats and if it works...keep it. if it doesnt work,..were back to square 1

then what happens after three years, the p platers that have been driving mitsubishi colts for three years will then jump in any car they want and it happens again, low performance drivers driving high performance cars..

the point is to teach us young HOONS that like to drive irratically how to drive properly in the first place ffs..

how can u ever learn how to get out of a situation in a car with 40kws at the front wheels, face it all cars do 100kms, so why not teach us in cars that have performance plus the safety and handling to match...

no point teaching teenages that arnt car minded, cause there the type not even to break speed limits and so forth..so i say have an open driving course to those who want to learn how to get out of bad situations, and make this course available when obtaining ur learners permit..

i know i would of loved to spend the day out on the skid pan, or learn how to break at high speeds while turning an so on..so for all u negative old bags i say go fu** urselves, its not our fault were car enthusiasts that have little to no resourses on how to drive properly..

+ 1 ... Like i said before these old bags are jealous we young lads have better cars then them , Get over it :)

you didn't answer my question moei? Are you embarrassed that you don't think you are a better driver than this old bag?

I'll happily put my older car with less power against your "better" car on a track and see who comes out on top if you'd like? I do already know the outcome though.

Nice attitude chris btw. you can afford a 32 but you can't spend 200 dollars to get on a skid pan or track for a day? kudo's to you and your fantastic attitude.

im now 21 and now working an can now afford a r32, but 4 years ago when i was going for my learners, no i didnt have 200 for a skid pan day, and tell u the truth i didnt even no what the f*k a skid pan was, u seem like 1 of those older guys that drive a good car an constantly try to line all the p platers up at the lights with ur mrs to show her how good u can drive " wiggles little finger", wankers like u make me laugh, the track and the streets are two different worlds, and if u have any brains and race on the track and drive on the road u should of already knew that..

ur last post is like a big guy picking on a small guy, i would love to give u a go on the track and put both our mouths to the test, but frankly i got no time to prove to people like u i can drive, but maybe 1 day i might come next to u at a set of lights an b4 i leave u in a cloud of smoke i will give ur mrs wink an blow her a kiss..

FARKING LOL dave.

im with ya mate.

either way. high performance cars dont kill people. people kill people.

along with ignorance, and less brain power than a donkey dick

My 2cents here...

You wanna drive where I live....

No answer really, difficult subject to put a blanket rule over.

I see many a non-P with driving skills from a playstation, and some bad P's too.

Theres no substitute for experience in reality... that final thought about the added "extras" of the situation, before u make the move.

But the up-shot is if some deaths can be averted, its better than none, then address the others in due process.

When I was 17 in UK, we had restricted Moped/motorcycles, which actually raised the accident rate, because we were biting off a little more than the machine would give, and finding out it was a little dangerous, for example...to try overtaking a car at 27 Mph, with something only allowed to do 30Mph... long time inching past, and many close shaves to boot.!!

Another was reading the road, .........at least we hit the wall at 30, and not 60MPH, thus giving us opportunity to live to tell the tale.

Got to be honest tho, I learned from my mistakes, and luckily never involved anyone else in my disasters.!!

We are all young at some point, and all have the right to learn too. There will be fatalities, but these will be out-weighed by the plus's, thats life.

AND WE ALL think we are king of the road at some point, just one day we wake out of the dream.

But, trying to make a vehicle do something it wasn't designed to do, by such things as altering camber angles et, etc... generally makes for a dangerously modified animal, which will not conduct itself in the same manner for which it was designed when it all starts to go wrong..!!

Let me just point out the classic Corrolas whizzing about in my area!!, or any other Mr average saloon for that matter.

My 2Cents.

im over it i drive the way i want to drive like i have been, i no the dramas i can face when im doin what i do on the street if something goes wrong..

people who dont no right from wrong and dont realise the consiquences they can face when being stupid in there car deserve to die, cause there the ones that give us smart p platers a bad name..

its simple, u want to drift around the streets u face the following, smashing ur car, hit a pole, hitting a pole an injuring some1 in the car, hitting a gutter an flipping the car, and the list goes on, you cant honestly tell me u dont no what to expect if something goes wrong when f*kin around in ur cars..

and as for the majority of the older drivers who have been driving for years, think of how good my generation of p platers can drive compair to ur generation, most cars p platers drive today are most 200kw+ cars, thats good enough to start a drift at a hundred kms on the freeway, lol i would like to see any of u older people do that in ur days in ur cars..

Hey sorry old bag i dont spend my whole life on this forum , Yeah i dont know how your shit box would go against my cars, i do visit the track though on many occasions ( Dont think i dont ) , so dont embarass yourself, dont act so cool when you clearly not..

Well he hadn't answered but felt the need to throw insults around. Is it my fault i'm smart enough to throw them back?

Congratulations on confirming what i had already hinted at btw.....

You would leave me in a cloud of smoke as I don't race idiots off the lights. I represent the modified car community when ever i am driving my modified car so i act sensibly. You on the other hand seem intent on perpetuating the stereotype. Nice work. You don't understand the difference between a track and the street from your comments, you are not in a position to claim i don't.

So now that you are working have you been to a skid pan to improve your skills? No money excuses now....

I don't go to the track to test my mouth. I go to the track to test my skills and my car.

u sound like just another big headed comodore driver with a shitbox VE thinkn that 6L of american fury can kill everything on the road.. i bet u drive with ur arm on top of the steeringwheel and tailgate people with what u asume is "less of a car"

pull ur head out ur ass mate. this is not the thread for your bitching session.

hey i cant help it im the proud owner of 2 R 34 gtrs and a VE GTS At the age of 22 ...

look at the words you are saying ? you sound like a kid ........

drifting at 100 kmh on a freeway...precisely the stupidity shown that P platers are dying and killing others..As for your generation driving better than ours.....Good and bad in all...I like to think of it this way...its far more difficult to drive a fast lap time in a crap old car than in a new sports car. lets see you drift in a 351 XB falcon with bodyroll....you would shit yourself

Lol, BHDave isn't running a 'boy racer' GTS, he has the real deal under the hood, where it matters.

He is also mature enough to know his sh1t, but from your comments your not.....

B.

well i'd like to say

i'm a P plater and i'd hate it if they took it off me and i know if you guys were at that age you'd hate it too, i drive abit fast but i'm nice giveway ect ect

and also i once saw to turbocharged nissans one was 180sx and they were on P's

Hey folks,

Maybe there would have been more deaths absent the ban? How can we tell?

The item that's missing from the inexperienced driver's resume is roadcraft - all of the what I would call good 'road' instructors (motorcycle and car) I have had mention this term; very few parents do (no offence SK, but despite dangerous_daveo's apparent vested interest I have to agree with him). The term actually refers to systems of vehicle control from the Hendon driving school in the UK (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roadcraft) but has been appropriated worldwide.

How can we increase roadcraft? The fastest/most painful way would probably be to put them on a motorcycle for 6 months (with attendant increase in motorcycle deaths/injuries).

How to increase roadcraft without the potential for death/serious injury? My suggestions:

* controlled conditions with instructor to learn the limits of your car/bike and what it's like when it's not in your 'safe-zone'. Instruction should include emphasis on not finding the limits on the road.

* simulators with real penalties for crashes (e.g. monetary, requirement-for-extra-time, electric shock )

* simulators with other people participating i.e. linked hazard-perception test (patent-pending, TM)

* simulators with real world conditions (e.g. car doing u-turn / right turn in front of you).

Regards,

Saliya

    • Have a vb in honour of the car comming back
    • It was a great, but typical track day, and some VB was ingested at the night time debrief 🤪
    • And so, to round this out, I couldn't be happier to confirm @MBS206 has decided to buy the car. He drove down from sunny QLD with a trailer last week and it is off to its new home today. I'll let Matt confirm on next steps but I understand broadly that the plan is to leave it pretty much as is, and just get some quality wheel time with a nicely balanced car that is pretty much track ready. There are a few a jobs still to be done first but nothing too major and I think its a very smart buy Dinner last night at the Paragon with a round of VBs (mostly) for Neil
    • Well, 50 pages and the end of a chapter for this car. We took it out for a shakedown at Wakie yesterday, and everything went well. There were a couple of niggles: - Oil cooler fitting leak - tightened, cleaned, stopped leaking - Radiator cap overflow fitting was leaking....Mark called it, the overflow fitting was threaded in and not tight....tightened, tested and held pressure - Small oil leak at the rear of the block, probably the turbo oil feed - too hot to get at it comfortably but probably just needs to be nipped up - leak at the driver's side rear brake line where it meets the hardline. Fitting wasn't loose, so Matt backed it off and back on, no further leaks - there's also a leak somewhere on the top of the fuel tank, maybe that cross over fuel line - that was has been left to fix when its on a hoist Otherwise than those niggles the car went great, turned great and stopped great so it was a very successful day out. I'm always really nervous when a car first hits the track after a long break, especially with a brand new engine as well but it was great. VID-20251011-WA0007.mp4  Big thanks to @The Bogan who dropped by and helped out, @MBS206 and my nephew Lachlan the apprentice.  Neil's wife Mel also surprised the hell out of all of us by dropping by; she's up in Tamworth these days but was travelling to Melbourne so had plausible deniability for turning up at the garage, it was great to see her but also obviously a bit sad all round.
