After a decent set of front pads for my car for street / occasional track use.

Last set were bendix ultimates and i wasn't really happy with them as they put out heaps of dust and didn't really have much bite. Some have said ferodo or endless pads are ok? Where can i get them and how much have you paid?

yeah, they're an alright pad.... you can use them on the street (i run them) but they're better suited to the track/spirited driving (i.e. mountain runs etc) as they take a while to get some heat into them.

I used to run Racebrakes RB74's on the front / bendix ultimate on the rear previously - not a bad combo.

now i run DS2500's front and the same bendix ultimates on the rear... lol... they don't seem to wear out :|

just don't make the same mistake that i did and get the same pads front and rear... doesn't work :S

I've actually got lucas pads in, Im suprised at how good they go. Bit of dust but not too bad. WAY better than the rb74s dust wise, and they arent eating my disks as much.

Dont know about track tho, but havent had fade on the street, and sometimes I give them a bit of a go just to make sure everything is still working.

Dont know exactly the type tho, they would have been about $100-110 a pair.

Green EBC racing pads

I found these to be quite expensive for the performance they provided...

I will not use these again personally as they dont offer very good value for money...

bendix ultimates,

Had these on at the last track day and after 5 laps i had no brakes left...

Try Ferodo DS2500 for street/track.

I have just ordered a set of DBA slotted rotors for all four corners and i have purchased a set of these to go with the slotted rotors...

The bloke who set up our brakes for targa tas swears by them for street/track use and id have to say they were impressive in our targa car...

Yeah, I won't touch EBC Green stuff again. Apparently I got a bad batch but the ones they returned to me were exactly the same and disintegrated within a month after screaming their tits off at the lightest touch of the pedal!!

I am running Ultimates at the moment and they are very dusty and I don't think they are anything special. Might have to invest in a set of Ferodo's before track day!!

hmmm after seeing greenstuff used on a mates 180sx i recommended them to a mate with a sss pulsar.... great on the 180, havent got feedback from the sss... I know theyve been on the 180 for ages, with a set of bda slotted's. do an awesome job, we fitted them ourselves with a VERY noticable difference with minimal brake-fade after a lap or few of lakeside, so yeah. a "bad batch" really shows the quality and consistancy of a brand though, i guess. if someone relies on a brand then all of a sudden they get a "bad batch" and they are f***ed.... not cool. but to my own experience, fantastic... havent PERSONALLY come across an issue.

I used DBA 4000 rotors front & rear, Ferodo DS2500 front and RB74 rear with MOTUL 600deg fluid on the 33 and they could lock the tyres easy as. Only problem was the were VERY squeeky on the street when they were cold & the dust from the ferodo's had me washin the wheels after every spirited drive. otherwise great set-up

No offence Shane (as much as its not a bad set up) locking the wheels means one of 2 things. You hit the brakes too hard, or you have crap tyres (or both so I guess that is 3...)

I have used Endless EuroX (the closest thing these days would be CC-X) and they were great but needed to get heat into them to work really well. Stood up to 5 laps of QR brilliantly.

Bendix Heavy Dutys were crap, and dusty.

A friend who does lots of hillclimbs and has held the record at Mt Cotton reckons the Ferodo 2500s are good.

I'm using QFM pads at the moment. For the price (1/3 of the Endless prices I was looking at) they're good.

I'm getting Hawk HP Plus next, I went in a car with these and it hurt my face everytime the brake pedal was planted :D

Hahaha, But you must admit it was a definite improment to your facial features.

On a serious note, Hawk HP Plus are an excellent brake pad for high performance street cars that also make it to the track.( Not that my car would be classed as high performance by any stretch of the imagination) Hawks have a high temperature coefficient and zero brake fade after 2 sets of the National circuit at QR (in succession). They work extremely well from cold, and give fantastic feedback through the pedal. I use them with Motul RBF 600 FACTORY LINE fluid.

The only downside would have to be the very slight squeal you can develop if you don't use the brakes hard enough for a long period of time, say over 2-3 weeks. But all it takes to bring back the sound of silence is to do a couple of 100km to 30km heavy brakes and things are back to normal, or attend a track day. This just help keep the rotors clean and free from any dust.

The brake wear is not too bad. The hawks I recently replaced lasted 2 and a half track days, and about 10K km of driving in between, but being an auto I think they get abused alot more than a manual. A friend had hawks on his 33GTR Vspec2 and they lasted most of the year and he attended most of the track days.

Anyway, a big :P from me.

    • Hi, i’m making a rb25det coil loom for Vag short coil. Can anybody tell me which Ecu signal wire belong to coil number 1 and 2,3,4,5,6? The connecting switch in above pic is 8 wire i think white is for +12v and black for earth.

    • Its a 2002 vr-x four VQ25DET, silver. Coil overs, lowered, polished alloys and sport exhaust. Bit of a project, was sitting in a shed for a while but runs and drives great.
    • I wasn’t able to replicate the sound anymore. It was a one time sound so maybe it was just coincidence but it was like small pebbles being dropped in a coke can.   should I try cleaning the MAF? It could be it’s functioning but dirty? I don’t know.
    • Update 4: Hi all. The car drives again! Haven't driven for long, only to store it in the garage again, but the test drive was successful. The coolant and oil leaks seem to be fixed for now. Temps on the engine were also very good, while moving I never even saw 80C water during the approx. 30 minute drive. Ate up all the coolant in the reservoir though so will have to fill that even more when I go to the car next time. One thing that pisses me off is that the RPM gauge is still f**ked, I even resoldered the board twice and used copper paste on the silly screws that are used as connections. Next time I take it out I'll take apart the board and fit new components, I'll see if I can get a replacement IC for it.  I have an appointment set for 22nd of September for the engine tune to 370hp. Alignment also still needs to be done. My hope is that I can get all the legal stuff over with by the end of this season. Anyone of you have advice regarding intercoolers? Currently there is an APEXI core fitted, one of those weird hybrid ones, 600x270x76. I don't think it's bad but it's not new and now I still have the chance to change it now to legally include it in the paperwork. Only issue is that the only options that would arrive in time are a HKS Type R intercooler or generic Ebay spec intercoolers comparable to a JustJap one. Ideally I'd order a Plazmaman but it takes over a month to receive which would mean making the car legal has to wait until next season. Would love to hear some input on this. Same story for my injectors, the previous owner was a nunce and put ID 1050x on the engine. They work but are obviously not ideal at "normal" power levels. But I don't see a reason to change them unless the tuner says it's necessary. I read online before buying a different exhaust that the top secret style rear diffusers won't fit due to the size of the rear resonators. My buddy and I made it work by slightly "adjusting the shape" of the mounting bracket and making some spacers out of 3d print for the mounting bolts. Fits like a charm. Just putting this here in case someone has this problem. Even the hefty HKS Silent Hi Power rear can fits without hitting anything.
