Hi guys,

We need to enlist the help of a top notch graphic artist.

Two sets of plates have now been printed off by PPQ and neither are of high enough standard for Dave and I (test bunnies) to be happy with.

PPQ are telling me they require our logo in an original EPS format. (if you don't know what that is read no further :) )

We want the logo to look exactly like the one in the dark banner.

What we want is the banner logo supplied to us in an EPS format.

If anyone can help out they willl have exclusive bragging rights that they did this and forever have their artwork imortilised oon numberplates.

EPS is an adobe vector post script standard. its normally used in pdf style documents.

you can get a convertor for these (i'm not entirely sure on the program, normally adobe publishing software) but who ever made that pdf above, or the minute notes for sau check your options to export or save, it may be in there.

Get the apple writer printer driver and install it on your system. Then print the image to file and you should be able to pick EPS as an output format.

Let's get this straight now...its no use trying to write the file as an eps if the original file is not in raw postscript format. The purpose of this raw file format is to allow you to scale the artwork to any size without any loss of quality in the final print.

If it is a pdf created from this raw format, well then yes you can re-open it in Adobe Illustrator and save it as the correct type of eps needed for large format printing.

I can do this job for you no worries but somebody will need to tell me what typeface was used.

Just a quick question, do you want the "S" to have the same raised effect as in the bevel and embossed look in the banner or is the flat look like in the pdf ok?

the thing is as far as i know these will be screen printed so to get a good quality print you need to use a flat vector style image to expose the screens.

i have opened the pdf and re saved it as an Illustrator eps V8 but that is not going to give that raised look you have in the banner

anyways if i could have a look at the specs ppq gave you i can tell you for sure what can and cant be done

If he wanted the flat look he could have just sent the pdf to PPQ, as they can open it as eps postscript format just as you have.

On the other hand I dont really see the need to create it in its embossed form due to the size it will appear on the number plates. The shadows and any gradients will appear as a very ordinary stipple at the required size.

Fair enough but in the 13 years I have been involved in graphic design, if you have a good enough relationship with your man...they will do leaps and bounds to keep you happy.

The original file was done in Adobe Illustrator, and converted ("save as" in Illustrator) to EPS, PDF, BMP and JPG formats. The AI and EPS docs were both in vector format, obviously BMP and JPG weren't, but either way PPQ should have been able to take the files we sent them, apply their standard red to the S, and it'd be sweet. I don't know why they have had so much of a problem doing this!

AFAIK, they were supplied with both vector and raster versions of the file. I re-checked the original AI file earlier today and the colour code on the S is straight red.

not converted from pdf bmp jpeg or anything else.

and yes we're after the raised 3d look.

and yes you can tell the difference on the plates we've had one with the 3d look (that came out pixelated due to not being a high res eps) and one done from a EPS created from a PDF (that came out flat looking)

So who's out there plugging away to try and create one?

    • Yeah well per the video it took 15s for the stock unit to start up....even if I give it a few seconds discount for starting that is at least 12 sec before you get a reverse camera if you are trying to leave a park.  The android unit is way faster, but 2016 for the stock unit is a long time ago in consumer electronics

    • Next on the to-do list was an oil and filter change. Nothing exciting to add here except the oil filter is in a really stupid place (facing the engine mount/subframe/steering rack). GReddy do a relocation kit which puts it towards the gearbox, I would have preferred towards the front but there's obviously a lot more stuff there. Something I'll have to look at for the next service perhaps. First time using Valvoline oil, although I can't see it being any different to most other brands Nice... The oil filter location... At least the subframe wont rust any time soon I picked up a genuine fuel filter, this is part of the fuel pump assembly inside the fuel tank. Access can be found underneath the rear seat, you'll see this triangular cover Remove the 3x plastic 10mm nuts and lift the cover up, pushing the rubber grommet through The yellow fuel line clips push out in opposite directions, remove these completely. The two moulded fuel lines can now pull upwards to disconnect, along with the wire electrical plug. There's 8x 8mm bolts that secure the black retaining ring. The fuel pump assembly is now ready to lift out. Be mindful of the fuel hose on the side, the hose clamp on mine was catching the hose preventing it from lifting up The fuel pump/filter has an upper and lower section held on by 4 pressure clips. These did take a little bit of force, it sounded like the plastic tabs were going to break but they didn't (don't worry!) The lower section helps mount the fuel pump, there's a circular rubber gasket/grommet/seal thing on the bottom where the sock is. Undo the hose clip on the short fuel hose on the side to disconnect it from the 3 way distribution pipe to be able to lift the upper half away. Don't forget to unplug the fuel pump too! There's a few rubber O rings that will need transferring to the new filter housing, I show these in the video at the bottom of this write up. Reassembly is the reverse Here's a photo of the new filter installed, you'll be able to see where the tabs are more clearing against the yellow OEM plastic Once the assembly is re-installed, I turned the engine over a few times to help build up fuel pressure. I did panic when the car stopped turning over but I could hear the fuel pump making a noise. It eventually started and has been fine since.
