Possum Bourne In Critical Condition

Kiwi rally ace Possum Bourne is critically ill, after he was involved in a

head-on smash near Wanaka.

Bourne was driving down the race course after completing reconnaissance for

the Race to the Sky event at Cardrona Valley.

He collided with a car coming the other way.

Both drivers were in normal road cars, travelling around 60 kilometres an

hour.

Possum Bourne and the driver of the other car were both airlifted to Dunedin

Hospital.

Hospital staff describe Bourne's condition as critical, but won't given any

more details.

The other driver has a broken leg.

Organisers are now discussing whether to go ahead with the event.

Constable Lyn Donaldson of Wanaka Police, says they're carrying out an

extensive investigation.

The cars are still at the scene.

Being a NZ newspaper, they seem to have the most up to date info.

A hospital spokeswoman confirmed that he remained in a critical condition this morning.

And to clear up about the cars, they were a Subaru Forrester and a Grand Cherokee Jeep.

Possum Bourne update - Monday April 21, 2003, 4.30pm

Now over 72 hours after the traffic accident in which he sustained head and shoulder injuries, Subaru Rally driver Possum Bourne remains in a serious but stable condition at Dunedin General Hospital, New Zealand.

He remains in a drug-induced coma.

Goodwill messages continue to flood in at the Possum Bourne website via fax. Messages can be left at the website www.possumpwrc.co.nz on the message board, or faxed to New Zealand 09 238 5737. (From Australia: 0011 64 9 238 5737).

His wife Peggy was with him throughout the night and spent many hours reading the messages.

She said: "Family and friends are reading the messages and we're touched by the number of people who care and how heartfelt their wishes are.

"So many people are expressing their absolute faith that he will overcome the challenge he currently faces. I know that Possum would be truly humbled by the response and I am saving each and every message for him."

The accident occurred in the lead-up to the Race to the Sky near Queenstown, New Zealand, on Friday April 18 between Possum???s Subaru Forester and another vehicle. It was a traffic accident on the public road used in the event, but neither vehicle was involved in official activities for the event.

Medical staff at Dunedin General Hospital remain comfortable that Possum Bourne's condition is where they would expect it to be at this stage of his treatment.

However, his condition does remain serious but stable and he will continue to remain in a drug induced coma.

Possum's sister, Kristine Game, said: "No-one should underestimate the challenge Possum faces, but he is fighting as hard as those that know him would expect him to. We are blown away by the level of support, and so will Possum be when he sees the response he has created, which is staggering.

"We are a strong family and we are going okay. It's tough but we're hanging in there and the extended family we have in the rally fraternity is also helping us greatly."

      The issue now is the 'fuel cut' while driving, and when it happend, it does not stall. This, I did not test the fuel pressure while driving as I cannot with a fuel pressure gauge. I do have Nistune logs, yes. I have also replaced the MAF Sensor.   Also related to the FPG Fuel Hanger – I just realized that I need a Deutsch Crimp Tool to crimp some cables for the FPG Fuel Hanger. Need to purchase additional cables as the kit only included 2, which are for the float. FPG is has not responded to my emails so far after purchasing. I thought about taking it to someone and having it done professionally, but I am reluctant since everyone I took it to messed up in some way.

      The German place in Cabramatta was rock solid, fresh pretzel cooked to order back then. Then it went all quiet, after all the poker machines were removed, then I believe it closed for good. I did drive past the other week and noticed outdoor lighting a big screen, but no idea what is there now.

      Yeah I suspect even if you hold airmass per cycle/cylinder constant if you get too far away from stock you're still going to have problems running the factory tune within the bounds of the factory load scale. Cams, different displacement/rod ratio, etc. I'm just lucky that the GTIII-SS with wastegate boost + CA compliance cats is pretty much equivalent to stock turbos. When I have actual space I can finally get it tuned and modify the fuel system for flex fuel to 100% handle any detonation concerns when cranking the boost to whatever those dinky turbos can put out.

      I would say no, why, because my daughter, who also lives in Goulburn, hasn't recommended us going there Pity, as we miss all the German joints around in Sydney, actually, the restaurants are the only thing I really miss about Sydney, and a special mention to Ishibanboshi at Bondi Junction, their Kara-age Don is heart cloggingly deliciousness (always added a special boiled egg...or 2) 😋
