Hi

I have a 180sx with a 32 GTR rear end with brakes hub etc, the front is S14/15 5 stud hub conversion with z33 brembo caliper and disc.

Problem when selecting wheels I am clueless about which offset is right.

Im using 17x8 235 wide tyres with a spacer on the front hubs but the tyre is rubbing against the spring.Unsure about the offset all I know its from an r33 skyline.

:woot:

The Z33 uses a +30 offset on their front rims, but I have seen people run wheels with a +15 over them. But then your problem isn't clearing the brakes, its clearing your springs.

Find out what offsets your current rims are, and how wide your spacer is. A 17x8 would be R33 GT-R wheels, right?

Its still going to be hard to give you advice. You've got hubs from 1 car, brakes from another, and wheels from a 3rd. Unless someone else has done this combo, giving you exact numbers will be difficult.

Exactly. Hence I wouldn't give any advice at all as the only way to find out in ur case would be trial fitting as you have hubs, and brakes from 3 different cars front and rear. You will need to find out what offsets and widths would clear ur brakes and also ur suspension. Too many variables in ur case..

How would I be able to work out the offset of the rims?

I ll find out how wide the spacer is, I only needed spacers for the front, rears were fine.

I know the offset of the rims they fit s14/15 & r33 gtsts.

The rims I have now at the front they stick out the front guard and rub against the spring with the spacer on the hub.But when i take off the spacer it hits the brake caliper. :D

Will update this thread soon.

Basically Im not keen on using spacers for the front because before i just needed rims to move the car as my 4 stud rims couldnt fit and clear the bigger brakes. :)

How would I be able to work out the offset of the rims?

I'd hope that it was engraved / embossed onto the back of the spokes of the rim, but I realise that's not always the case.

This is what an offset is - so with a ruler and some string you could technically measure it yourself. But since they measure in mm, and its quite cramped in there, there's a good chance you won't be 100% accurate anyway.

33 GTR rims are 17X9 no X8. they are 17X9 +30.

it sounds like you are going to have some problems. if your tyre is currently sticking outside the guard then you cant move any further out without wider guards. if it's currently hitting the spring you cant go any further in either (unless you can fit a narrower spring, ie replace stock sus for aftermarket coil-overs with the small OD springs). only solution I can see at the moment is try and get the guards flared slightly so you can got a little further out to cure your spring touching problem and perhaps looks at a narrower tyre?

Hey guys thanks for the replies.

The spacers I'm using at the front are 20mm.

I have to wait 'six weeks' for the car to come out of the panel beaters to find out the offset of the rims

Im 100% sure now its S14 5 stud hubs with z33 brake disc and brembo caliper.

My current set of wheels at the front without spacer it doesnt clear the caliper.Do anyone think only 18inch wheels would be able to clear the z33 brakes?

I've used before 18s from a 2jz supra it fitted fine on the front with the 20mm spacer and 225 tyres. Again Im guessing its the offset?

Beer Baron I think I have aftermarket shocks + springs, yeah I plan to try replacing the 235s at the front with 205/215 tyres.

Cheers :)

My new K&N Air Filter arrived, I went with an RU-4180 which matched the dimensions of the universal cone filter the car originally had.  The battery had gone flat, while that was charging I tidied up the spaghetti wiring at the bulk head and down the sides of the engine Next job was to swap the stereo The Kenwood harness had the female ISO plugs cut off and the male ISO plugs cut off the adaptor loom and joined with bullet connectors. I ordered in a repair loom through work and re-did it all. New Kenwood unit installed (Android Auto, DAB, Bluetooth, Reverse Camera) The bonnet/hood gas struts have been poor since collecting the car. I couldn't find any suitable replacements locally so took a chance on a pair from AliExpress.  The originals don't use a retaining clip to secure the cup onto the ball fixture, would explain why I struggled for 10-15mins trying to pry off the cups. The ball fixtures unscrew using a 12mm spanner, new ones are the same size. Sadly no photo of them fitted, you're not missing much lol The dished Momo steering wheel got replaced with my Momo Tuner, turns out I ordered counter sunk bolts for the horn trim ring (like they normally are for the steering wheel) instead of allen cap (flat seat)  A terrible photo of a Quaife style gear shift knob I've had stashed in my tool box for many years after purchasing the incorrect thread size (I can see a pattern emerging with ordering incorrect parts...) • GT-R clearly the better choice! The 300 is certainly not insaly fast but has a decent amount of poke. Does a nice little drift around the corners with a decent amount of throttle. It's VERY predictable in a slide too.  Feels so progressive! People probably presume there's a 25 year old driving it based on my behaviour this week! 🤣
    • Yeah Jap import. Fairlady Z then! I'm a bit the same.  They've been on my radar for a fair while but then just impulsively decided to buy one!  Was going to just buy an NA and add turbos to it later but decided to save the f'ing around and just buy the turbo version.
    • Thanks mate, well done to you too! Yeah not looking forward to doing any major work to it!
