RBwhatever
Hi guys, I finally got my exhaust. Its mild steel. 3" bell mouth dump pipe/front pipe - 3" Xforce high flow cat - 3.5" Cat back - 3" cannon. My car now has: Turbo back exhaust K&N Hiflow Panel Filter R34 SMIC Turbotech BC set to 9.5/10psi I had a mate help me to bolt it up, so it took us roughly just under 3hrs to remove the stock one and fit the new one. Firstly we only fitted the cat back and the high flow cat and took it for a spin. I wasn't that impressed.... it was better than before and power delivery seemed like it was smoother. I was running 7psi and it rose to 7.5psi after the this part of the exhaust was done. So we proceeded to fit the dump/front pipe and we also blocked off that little hole in the stock BOV to stop leakage. After everything was back together, we took it for another spin. My goodness it made a huge difference! You could hear the turbo spooling up alot louder, boost kicked in quicker and harder, and it pulled thoughout the whole rev range. Boost thus changed from 7.5psi to 8.5psi. No missfire, no detonation. I then bumped the boost up again to 9.5psi, and it just loved it. As far as sound of the system goes, i thought it was going to be a lot louder, but it just suits me fine, not too loud, definitely legal even with the silencer out, not droney, with a nice burble and deep note. With the silencer in its pretty silent. I'll post some pics of the comparison of dump pipes & finished product later. Definitely the best mod I've done to car and it only cost $870. Thanks guys, any feedback is appreciated Sorry for the long letter. EDIT: Question about AFR's removed as the issue has been answered, little hole in BOV unblocked, thanks people. See post 21 for sound recording (Thanks Howie for posting it) Edited November 24, 2006 by KeyMakeR33 Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/144283-xforce-turbo-back-exhaust/ Share on other sites
Mr Italy!
So we proceeded to fit the dump/front pipe and we also blocked off that little hole in the stock BOV to stop leakage. Leave the little hole uplugged - it's there to keep the turbo spooling. Take your car and put it on the dyno with the appropriate A/F metres, then see if its running lean or not. If it is, PowerFC while they're still available!! mad082
how does the jaycar kit work? does it have a full range sweep so you know what it is saying (so you can see if it is 14.6, etc) or is it just in stages? if it is just in stages then that is the first problem. it could be anywhere in that stage. also it is only working off the stock o2 sensor so it is by no means accurate. as has been said though, stick it on a dyno and get the afr's checked properly. Michael_1882
Was that the exhaust kits going for around $450 without the dump pipe? RBwhatever
Mr Italy: Plugging that hole is no good? Causes surging? mad082: The jaycar kit is the same as the techedge kit you can buy on the internet. Type "techedge air fuel gauge" into google and it should come up. The range of the gauge is only between 11.6 - 20.something. It takes readings off the O2 sensor every 440ms and the little dot gauge beside it every 220ms. Ok so the gauge is a little slow and so is the O2 sensor and is mostly only good to read off when you have a constant throttle position, which I could do before I fitted the exhaust. It would read rich under full throttle and lean upon deceleration. Now it doesn't hit rich on WOT. I'll take it for another drive when I get home and check again, it just seems weird to me. You'd think it'll run richer rather than leaner. But apart from that the cars awsome. If I didn't have that digital AFR gauge I probably wouldn't be so worried about it. Michael_1882: I got my exhaust from just jap for $799 + Freight. Where are you getting your prices? RANDY
haha! I'm so JUST behind you! I spent the best part of today and yesterday with a mate taking all the old and broken exhaust manifold studs out... when the turbo goes back on, my 3" turbo back system will go in. Then our mods are identical. (apart from suspension and brakes I spose) I think if you are inhaling more air, with the stock fuel maps, you are getting a better air/fuel ratio, so it doesn't dip as low as before? Am I understanding that right, everyone? If you're forcing 2psi more air into the mix, the mix is leaner? I always hear of people making around 200rwkw and getting the same fuel consumption as me... but then if their mixtures are better and it makes more power because of it, then they'd use about the same amount of fuel until they start adjusting it with aftermarket fuel computers. God.. I hope we finish my car tomorrow! got oil, gearbox oil, split dump, cat-back left to put in. 32vspecII
all those AFR meter things are pretty useless apart from some eye candy , they are totally inaccurate . you need a mega expensive wide band sensor they use when your on the dyno for real readings . dont worry about it at all Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/144283-xforce-turbo-back-exhaust/#findComment-2694082 Share on other sites
paulr33
agree afr guage on stock 02 sensor is pointless and mislead, dont bother sell the guage and move on with your life Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/144283-xforce-turbo-back-exhaust/#findComment-2694607 Share on other sites
RBwhatever
Hmmm ok, so just disregard what it the AFR gauge says and just assume its richer than usual yeah? In saying that can you get wideband O2 sensors to replace the stock item? RBwhatever
na haven't got a video or sound recording. I don't know how i'm going to record it, I don't quite have anything that'll do it. I'll see if i can anyway later on. If so just mms it to me and i'll upload it onto the web for ya. RBwhatever
No pics of the cat back yet. I'll have back it up onto the ramps again and take a photo. The install was easy as. Its good to have someone else to give you a hand though, makes the job twice as easy. X-force couldn't of made the system any better, it just bolted straight up, no modifying. The hardest part was getting the bolts out off the stock dump pipe and getting them back in with the new dump. A couple of them were in very hard to reach places. The only thing I had to modifiy was the temp sensor hole in the cat, it was slightly to small, just drilled it out a bit bigger. Yeah my phones got a recorder, its not crash hot though, but it will do. I'll send ya a pm when i got it. R33silverS2
I have a stainless steel turboback xforce and mine is quite loud, i noticed that yours appears to have an oval resonator on it, whilst mine just runs a hot dog style resonator, prob why mine is soo loud. We spent tuesday night putting it on. Cheap fuel! well yeah it is only premium hahaha Nah it didn't ping at all, mind you when we took it for a drive it was pretty cool that night. And na its not as quiet as yours either, but it not any louder than when i just had the muffler on there. And its got that whistle now too, it sounds awesome Edited November 23, 2006 by KeyMakeR33 Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/144283-xforce-turbo-back-exhaust/#findComment-2697671 Share on other sites
