Just planning and doing some research for a system for my R33, and deciding how to style the fibreglass boxes and panels which I intend to make for the boot install. As I'm going for a tidy and not so 'bling bling' look for my boot I'm thinking of using carpet or vynl to cover the fibreglass, rather than a painted finish which I have done in other cars.

I have noticed many others using matching automotive carpet and vynl, etc. but i'm just wondering if anyone knows the proccess of getting vynl and carpet to stick perfectly with the contours that are found on fibre glass installs. Im guessing a spray glue is involved? maybe a special type of vynl or carpet? Any ideas or links would be greatly appreciated, while i continue to look around.

Your best bet is to use a contact adhesive.. you dont need special carpet or vinyl... just apply the adhesive with a brush so that you get a thin coating on both surfaces ... let it go touch dry... then carefully place the carpet or vinyl on to the surface... be careful of air bubbles if doing vinyl.

:D

if you fibreglassing the whole thing then your gonna have some left over resin. use that to stick down vinyl/carpet but be sure to apply a thickish layer and use the thinnest possible vinyl/carpet especially if you doing contours. if not and the area is flat then just make sure you got enough resin on.

    • All of this is making it seem clear that running the Coppermix twin was definitely the way to go, especially in hindsight with how insane tariffs have gotten and the strength of the USD vs yen at the time.
    • That sounds like no chance of even importing one for road registering then Now I see why Duncan wants to check LHD rules for Targa...   I wonder how "bolt in" the AWD would be if you got one imported from the US and swapped it to an AUD one
