Hi guys

Its intercooler time for my lil stock r32.

Im after some advice on whether its worth calling up places like justjap, sss etc (auto-dismantlers) and getting a second hand cooler? Or just to go somewhere like Performanz/C-Red and get a new system fitted complete?

Any suggestions where to go? etc etc?

thaanks

Ring my Dad at SST Autos, he has just found someone who does them really cheap. I new Grant was expensive but not THAT expensive. If you wanna call Steve, ring 9350 5444. He can tell ya where he picked up a new one for $700. He is right next door to Grant funny enough.

heres an example.

i asked at 6 tuning places around town when getting my fmic fitted. the cheapest quote i got was $650 and dearest was $1400.

thats just for the pipes and labour to install. add what they charge for a coola to that and your looking at nearly 2.5-3 grand

i picked up my cooler brand new for 750, its 600*300*75.

and its not that hard to find someone to fit with quality stainless 2.5" plumbing and immaculate welds for around 500.

i'll put up pics when its all done but i cant see how people can spend 2-3k on a cooler kit, esp when places like speedworks sell brand new jap kits for under 2k

Guys, all these coolers are pretty good prices, i would consider the GTR cooler like EVL 33's... quite a good upgrade aswell from what i hear (pls correct me if wrong) depends where you go as to the qualty, but GTR ones seem quite good... I won't bother tellin you how much my cooler costs coz you might faint but the quality on it is sweeeeeeet! no scratches and no bad weld marks... though it did take 3 months to be made and shipped over! from what i have learnt PLS buy local!

i have heard GTR coolers are good aswell.

but im not sure if anyone has really sized these up with coolers like the hybrid in terms of quality? Is there much difference? Are they both suited for a pretty much stock r32gtst ?

The hybrid is about the same price as EVL's GTR cooler (cores)

raasclaat,

What size turbo do you have mate?

If it's a stocker turbo then prepare to go slower if you opt for the front mount, I almost guarentee you will (go slower than the stock ic that is).

The best option for a stock turbo or a slightly high flowed unit is the factory replacement trust kit. It is not the front mount kit but a thicker stock positioned unit with the trust R-spl core.

If you do have a larger upgrade turbo then try to flow match the new front mount with the flow capacity of the turbo. And ensure that the pipes are as short as possible and have as few bends as possible.

The GTR cooler is good for a 400HP+ turbo (I mean thats the power you want to have ready at the turbo before you buy one to make it a 'good upgrade).

    • CTIS (Central Tire Inflation System) has existed since the 80's. I'm looking into buying a Hummer H1 and they generally included it.
    • My idle is set at 950rpm though - Moving the timing around 20 degrees is not really what I'd call a calm idle. That said... neither is chop, by definition. The LS ECU likes to adjust timing to hold idle as opposed to air. It'd work, but generally speaking there'd be a discrepancy in the base idle and the IACV would want to move the timing around anyway to maintain said idle. I think I'm just going to keep the timing steady anyway. Preserve my engine mounts.  My aircon is now officially regassed. As the guy was reversing I noticed my reverse lights do not operate, along with my reverse cam. This is a bit distressing, because 100% of guides talk about which wire to connect to backup cams as "the goes with the [other color] wire". Often when doing conversions. Unfortunately the R34 colour wires aren't documented Unfortunately I had a T56 Magnum gearbox with it's reverse switch, which also isn't documented. Unfortunately there's definitely not documentation for people with both of these in the one car. Unfortunately I forgot. After many hours of this, I have a reverse cam and reverse lights again. The wire going through the trans tunnel to the reverse switch had broken. Upon inspection, it looks like this one wire had about 7 spade terminals and extensions in it.. for reasons I cannot possibly comprehend. I also spent the 750 hours required to clean up the wiring behind my head unit which now looks like this: This is a monumental improvement relative to what used to be there WRT triple gauges, head unit, traction control, wideband controller, and whatever the f**k OEM stuff still exists there in various states of connectivity/needed. Next step is to check in at the Exhaust shop to see/confirm how much clearance I have, to decide what mid mufflers or 'resonators' (which are just straight through, narrower mufflers) I can add and hopefully cut out a lot of exhaust leaks, pinhole, v-band or otherwise. But first step will be to 'take a look' before the next step.
    • Fark the AFM card and Nistune, Haltech Nexus S3, DBW, cruise control, flex fuel, dis dat.
    • It's most likely the bolt/bush where the cover bolts back wore and allowed cover to move forward.
    • Still haven't put the injectors and R35 AFM in so we can tune the bloody thing for the HG highflow it got mid last year! I think I can forecast the upgrade path to a bigger twin scroll, external gate, Haltech, flex setup, Samsonas, dis dat, etc will be .... a while away!
