when I am driving, no barake applied...there is a light squelling sound coming from the front right rotor. It sounds like metal touchin metal very lightly and disaapepears at high speeds. then comes back at low speeds. Not sure what it is.

why does it do this for at varying speeds. Its a light noise but annoying. I had my discs machined a few months ago.

But same barke pads in since 75,000...and the car has done now 136,000.

any ideas?

i get the same noise all the time apart from when i am using the brakes reasonably hard. Mine make it from the front right as well, and you can hear it from a car in the next lane going 70!

my pads still have heaps of meat, im assuming the pad material for some reason has gone funny and is making noise agaisnt the rotor?

The noise may not disappear you may just not hear it if the noise from the car is drowning it out. When you hear the noise rest your foot on the brake pedal to see if it goes away and this will tell you if it is a problem in that area of pad and rotor making contact.

my pads still have heaps of meat,

I take this comment back. Pulled off the pads today and it was the wear indicators. They start touching when there is still maybe 2.5mm of pad material left, i cant believe the pads ran out so quickly in any case, the drivers side has been touching for a while and the passenger side is starting to touch.

Sometimes it can be the simple things that are the problems. What brand of pads are in there ?

I fitted new pads over the weekend for the same reason (wear markers annoying me). I still had, I reckon, about half the pad material left.

Bendix ultimate, less than 20,000kms, one track day only.

the pads have approx 2.5mm pad material still left.. as a guesstimate when new they were about 15mm thick.

Why not just bend the wear indicator back a couple of mm? That's what I do.

I bent the damn indicators back with great satisfaction to finally shut them up :huh::) i have new discs and ferodos waiting to go in in any case :)

Great to hear it worked for you. In any case, whenever indicators are bent back, always remember to check pad thickness regularly to make sure you don't get metal on metal at some point.

    • List all of your mods. It sounds like an aftermarket ECU hitting rev limiter. Like a valet mode, or a cold rpm limiter?
    • @Kapr Haha yeah thats the one. I missed that you had a built up engine, I wouldn't want to run it on there either then. It was good in my situation just to replace the original turbo on a stock engine. @MBS206Yep definitely not a replacement for anything name brand
    • You are selling this? I have never bought something from marketplace...i dont know if i trust that enough. And the price is little bit "too" good...

    • It would be well worth deciding where you want to go and what you care about. Reliability of everything in a 34 drops MASSIVELY above the 300kw mark. Keeping everything going great at beyond that value will cost ten times the $. Clutches become shit, gearboxes (and engines/bottom ends) become consumable, traction becomes crap. The good news is looking legalish/actually being legal is slighly under the 300kw mark. I would make the assumption you want to ditch the stock plenum too and want to go a front facing unit of some description due to the cross flow. Do the bends on a return flow hurt? Not really. A couple of bends do make a difference but not nearly as much in a forced induction situation. Add 1psi of boost to overcome it. Nobody has ever gone and done a track session monitoring IAT then done a different session on a different intercooler and monitored IAT to see the difference here. All of the benefits here are likely in the "My engine is a forged consumable that I drive once a year because it needs a rebuild every year which takes 9 months of the year to complete" territory. It would be well worth deciding where you want to go and what you care about with this car.
