Greddy Profec E-01

[

Cons:

Trying to find a place to put that screen and running all the cables neatly... (mission and a half this was)

Can you please post a pic of where/how you mounted it stan? I'm still deciding on whether to get this...

Me too! I'm hoping to mount it with a bracket connected inside the ashtray (R34). My calculations show it will just cover just a bit of the double DIN unit above, hopefully not too much.

But now that I found out the E-01 does not program / monitor the E-Manage Ultimate I'm questioning buying the E-01 at all.

I am using the Blitz SBC III. boosting 24psi through it, hasnt spiked once. easy to use and instructions in english. on my lancer evo (my GF's actually) ive put a turbonetics bleed valve, seems to hold 19psi fairly well.

Getting a photo for Kennedy and JustinP now...

JustinP; I thought that the E-01 was Ultimate compatible; sure it's not just a optional harness that you need?

No I think it is only compatable with the original blue E-Manage, this has been confirmed by two different people who sell them. I would love to be proved wrong though as it is the only thing stopping me from going and ordering one right now!

Pics would be much appreciated

As you can see the bracket is only there as a "hook" and is not fixed. The second last photo shows the vent loosened to emphasize it's not permanently stuck there.

Thanks for the pics! That thing is huge! Don't know if I could fit it down low in front of the ashtray :/ It's quite thick too.

^^ Sinista: Are you saying that you could fit it inside the DIN pocket underneath the main DIN slot for the stereo? This is really what I'd like to do if I was to get one.

The biggest con I can see with the AVC-R is if you go from an internal to an external wastegate. Apparently there's 2 versions, 1 for each type. I don't know what you have to go though to convert from 1 to the other if at all possible.

Satanic: That E-01 really is huge there's no way I'm having that monolith in my car, good job on the install though. When's someone gonna come up with EBC that can link into a standard DVD touch screen? Now that would be real stealth.

Yes; to all those who have said that the E-01 is a mammoth of a device, you are not far off... we must've spent a good few days deciding where to put that screen.

It's a more popular boost controller with the EVO community and they have come up with some nice places to mount it.

JazzaR33; what would be awesome would be the type of system that parralels with the HKS CAMP system. Ultimate stealth for everything.

"Hybrid Dual Stage Electronic Boost Controller

Cost:

$250

Pros:

Cheap, Easy to Install (kinda), Easy to Use

Cons:

No control over GAIN etc that you get with a good EBC

Does not monitor boost levels and compensate for drop off

Nothing more than a electronic solenoid

Experience; could not hold 1 bar, kept dropping a good 5PSI"

im running the same as above, but 24PSI, had to change the wastegate spring so the controller didnt have to bleed off so much.

have found ramping up of boost varies a little, between 380kw to 416.9kw

Cool... question; did you have the EBC wired up in Open / Closed loop?

My Hybrid fell on its ass when we removed the AFM and could not run it with that signal (main cause of the EBC not working)

Its the same EBC whether you are running an external or integral wastegate. There are 3 ports on the solenoid and the wastegate type that you are running determines which of the two ports you connect to and use. I have had the same AVC-R run my std turbo and my TD06 with external gate.

Had 2 Blitz Sbc id3's in the past and they worked extremely well. This time Im going to probabley either go the new HKS which I have heard is wonderful, or the Greddy profec spec b 2 I have a friend running 30psi thru it and it holds boost extremely well and doesnt spike. Other good thing is it looks like a turbo timer and is easy to tuck away from cops.

If anyone has used the JAYCAR electronic boost controller with the stock solenoid could you please post up your comments on this set up? I think SK used this in a stagea at some stage?

i used one of these. if your looking for something with every variable adjustable, then this is it.

PROS:

-can adjust the solenoids operational frequency, no other boost controller i know of allows this

-can adjust 'gain' through the whole rev range (through adjustable duty cycle of solenoid), not just for the boost build up/spool area like all jap controllers do, this allows for example, a higher boost setting for the midrange then the top end, which i find very good.. again i dont know of any other controller which allows this

-cheap compared to most other ebc's

-held boost really well when setup properly\

-has 2 complete MAPS for the boost curve, which you choose between with a simple switch. its possible to hook this switch up to give different boost maps for different gears, say map 'low' for gear 1 and 2, and map 'high' for all others etc.

CONS:

-it takes time, patience, and a bit of thinking to get it setup properly, quite tedious

-have to build, although debateable as to whether this is a downside ;)

-not as flash looking as ready built jap ebc's

-lacks a feedback system, so spiking did occur on higher gears, although a change of solenoid frequency could have fixed this, but i never got around to trying it.

    • Will have a look at that. I cant see any leaks
    • Put another overflow bottle (ie, a 1.25 coke bottle or similar) under the overflow hose and see if it is being pushed out there or if it is disappearing into the engine.
    • Staring on a stand is no issue. You just have to wire everything up, give it fuel and cross your fingers that the stand is robust enough. Arranging the inlet plumbing is often the hardest part, without any surrounding structure to hand some of it from. No need for coolant if you only want to run it for <1 minute. As to the gearbox - I think the little Aisin box is a bit stronger than the other small Nissan boxes that went behind SRs, but I wouldn't be too keen to test its limits with the torque of a boosted 25. I don't know if you can retain the box and the tailshaft. The box won't connect to the RB without an adapter of some sort, which is either a plate that will push the engine forward (which is not good for fitting it into the bay's available space) or push the box back, which messes with the box position and tailshaft length - OR - cut and shut work on the bellhousing, which is a long way from "least modification". I'd be buying a new 370Z 6 speed or similar, doing what has to be done to that to make it fit RB (ie, cut and shut bellhousing) and the requisite tailshaft custom/mods.
    • Hi Everyone I am from West Pennant Hills in NSW. Been too busy until recently to attend to my RB25DET Series 2 engine until recently. I am planning to stick it into the S15 shell at this stage, unless a nice SR20DET turns up... For now, i am going to try and get the RB25 running and working well then decide what gearbox to use. My preference is to retain the SR20DET  6 speed gearbox and tail shaft to retain as much and least modifications as i can avoid. I am an old guy and won't be doing any heavy drifting so i don't need a bullet proof gearbox Does anyone have experience with starting the RB on a stand? I got everything setup as much as I can with the info i can find... endless searching and videos on Youtube I would be great to get some pointers Cheers Songo
    • Hey all, Recently have had my s1 r33 gtr serviced and noticed my coolant reservoir was topped up to the max line. Took the car out for 1 yesterday and noticed today the reservoir is completely empty.  Any ideas? Radiator is full
