Does anyone know if it's possible to get a certificate for specific mods only, or does an engineer need to pass the entire car as either safe or unsafe?

The reason being, I wont pass emissions for a while to come (due to some major mods required to bring it back to stock which I cant afford atm!), so in the meantime I thought I would get only some of the mods passed which I've been previously warned about.

Is this possible or not?

Thinking about getting passed -

Wheels

Suspension

Air filter box (although I'm told by the cops that the boxed pod filter thing is an 'internet myth' :/)

Body work

Number plate mount (sticks out from the bar by a tiny bit. I've heard this may be illegal)

FMIC

Exhaust (Noise and Height)

Sparco seats/rails

the engineers cert is for the whole vehicle, and theoretically if theres something on there that doesnt comply u have to change it to get one, a lame example would be pod, u cant get an engineers cert with a open pod, so u go stock or enclose the pod or no certificate, also once u have it, if u change something and the certificate needs to be updated they will charge you to change it.

thats how it works for me anyway.

also theres things they cant/wont engineer

if u change the computer boost controller etc.

these are generally overlooked though because police cant spot them.

but really if u have a boost controller they shouldnt give u a cert.

That is correct, its all or nothing.

As for engineering a pod filter: The engineer i spoke to was happy to pass it as long as it passed a " drive by noise test". But i guess it changes from person to person.

Um... I dont think so. All EG hondas came like that from the factory. There is a brace that pushes them out from the bumper. Waste of time if you ask me, I ripped mine straght off. What they will do you over for is if the plate is on at an angle, like side mounting it flush with the bumper on the passenger side.

Vidospace

well. i dont think it's worth the effort on my car it wont pass for:

open pods

non-plumb back BOV X 2

boost controller

aftermarket ECU

3 X defi gauges

fixed non-reclinable seat with head restraints

missing rear seats

roll cage

4 point willans harness

side number plate mount

exhaust - noise

exhaust - emmisions

height (adjustable nismo/ohlins coil-overs)

I'm sure there is plenty more too. but I have been pulled over before with the car in that state (above) and never had a problem. so just deal with it if/when the time comes.

the box for the pod isnt a myth. its confirmed. ive seen it in a RTA car modifications book thing a friend had. but it does come down to each cop.. if they dont like you they may do you for it anyway. they aren't engineers remember, so what they say it legal and not legal tends to differ on the picky things

what does it matter if you take the rear seat out? take the belts out too and it should be obvious that no-one is ever gunna sit there again :(

If the rear seat is missing, and so are the belts, and your rego states it is a 5 seater, and it's also badged that under the hood, then you can have your registration stripped from the car immediately.

false.

    • I've got a 2011 J50 that I imported six years ago. The unmodified factory AV system date and time has always been correct ( Japanese timezone of course ) up until last month. About two weeks ago, at engine start, the system wished me a happy new year ( in Japanese of course ). I can't think of anything that would make the system think that the date had changed, unless the GPS component has failed/reset somehow ? I checked the GPS reception in the system settings, and it can still see the satellites. Has any other J50 owner had this happen ?  It's no biggie, just annoying that it tells me the wrong date anytime I start the engine. 😅
    • Love following your adventures on IG, hopefully if you're still around in Japan when we visit again wouldn't mind going for a few beers with you (that's if you're keen on hearing how I hate Nissans).
    • ok so if i wanted to go 18's i would go for 8's  in front 30+ or 32+ off set at front and the back 9 would be ok? what offset should i aim for.. then can i do some  hunting for wheel rim choices..    If i get this - will this fit all around: Size: 18 x 8.5 +37 - n what tyres size tyre should i get for front n back?
    • Absolute f*cking nightmare. I had to take breaks constantly, and I was always pissed off when I got home. The line split in Italy on day 2 (we drove from the Netherlands), lol. Driving any narrow European town was... well, sh*t.   Appreciate it man. Here, I'll just drop a favourite from the load I took on Saturday.   I'll update here when things happen with the car, the thing is, with stock power and almost everything chassis-wise taken care of, there really are no problems. 268,000kms now and counting.
    • Ah! I actually managed to snag a lightly used set.... that aren't so suitable for me right now. They don't work on a GTT without some cutting or creative heat moulding. I thought about reselling them myself cause I didn't want to murder them, but it looks like I'm probably going to attempt to murder them/melt them because I may as well. @GTSBoy @PranK can somebody close this thread?
