no BOV = anyproblems??

Recommended Posts

well as its a stock one.....it looks nothing like an aftermarket one. not sure about 32's but on a 33 they're this ugly small grey roundish thing thats attatched to one of the intake pipes. follow ur intake pipes and there should be something odd bolted onto it:D as u say your hearing a whistling sound after lettin go of the gas its best bet that thats the sound of ur bov...doesnt matter if its auto too.....my friend had a 32 auto.

oh ok thanks alot man..yea i think thats y i didnt think there was a BOV cauz it didnt look like an aftermarket one and didnt generate as much noise as my freinds r33..although i still ran him off the rd.. im gonna go look for the grey roundish ugly thing :P thanks alot mr fanny!!!

if theres no affect on the motor through a BOV why then do most factory turbo cars have BOV's stock?

AFAIK thier there to improve response by decreasing the chance of backpressure slowing the compressor when the throttle is slammed shut.

or boost spikes?

I put my aftermarket BOV on so i could have something quieter than the stock one. My old stock one used to make a HEAP of noise (probly because of my air filter pod) and was really sensitive.

Whenever i came on boost with the stock bov i couldnt hear the motor underneath the sound of air rushing. Aftermarket BOV has reduced the noise by over 50 percent id say, now all i hear is the howl of 6 lovely RB cylinders. Not sure if all 32 bovs were as bad as my one or if mine had a problem. But its better by far now.

kwazza: i think u've missunderstood. i dont think anyone here said that having no bov wont do anything to ur engine. just reinforcing to Rabz that his car and all gts-t's have stock blow off valves...be it auto or manual. Predator and i were just saying from opinion that an aftermarket one's over the stock one wont give u any great performance gains.

    • I am well aware as I did rant at him to buy a MX5, buy the 2.5 before he DIY'ed it, etc as well as do things to the holden. He will obtain a ND. It's the best of both worlds. They look great in person, definitely the best looking one. Just a matter of time now.

    • ouch! how is the car now?I had sold my gtr but have been looking into some on trademe and a 260RS but I wouldnt be keen on any repairs needed on them
    • This sounds like someone who would have owned an R33 in their past... It's okay, I'm 100% picking up what you're putting down Mark.
    • Just back on what was raised about jacking off the the tow/tie down point on the front of cars. I've used it plenty. I've also watched it on a car where you could see it move the front end of the car. It was like the front end/whole car being tweaked and twisted a bit. I will say, I struggle to find good jacking points on MOST cars. The ones that have good points, I then normally struggle to find a jack tall enough to make the car change height!   One of my go to points for either the jack, or the axel stands though, is either a suspension pickup point, OR a subframe to chassis major bolting point. I actually think its the subframe on my R33 that has a bit of a bend in it, from being jacked in the middle too. However, it could have been one of my many other cars I've had over the years! Or it could also be the from me jacking it up, and the fact the top of the front radiator support isn't there, so it can allow the front of the car to move and bend etc.
