WEll i can agree with the comments above. (well some of them). Anyway i vought my car for $7000 its an r33 4door series 1. It was chaep enough. I bought it in melb and it cost me about ......... ($7k +rego+RACT inspection) that was it.... along with the obligatory spirit of tas fee. (cant get around that unless you buy your own boat) . I would just like to agree with the comment that you get what you pay for.

I will be the first to admit that even though my car checked out ok on first inspeciton it was still a bit of a lemon.

Coz i had some plans it didnt matter so much, however none the less its still a pain in the AR$E. I had a turbo with shaft play/exhaust manifold with 8 out of 12 botls snapped/ buggered o2 sensor/ buggered airflow meter/ and some fueling issues/ oh and my suspension was FU#@ED. i knew this before i bought the car and knew that i was going to change it anyway so it wasnt a big drama.

Now after about about hhhhmmmmm $5k+ i have highflowed turbo/manifolr/02/airflow/suspension/exhaust and some other bitz and peices fixed. adding onto that the rego and insurance (shannons I highly recomend) i am at a total of about $15k. Now i want to get a tune or aftermarket ecu or something. Anyway that is not what this topic is about.

So my point really (or should i say finally) is that you DO get what you pay for and i also think that... whatever you buy, be it a car from melm or tassie, get it mechanically chekced or at least take it for about a 20-30km test drive so that you can really get a feel for the car..

Thats my 20cents worht (probably more like $5 worht but who cares)

Hope you find something u like :P

With buying from melbourne, how much does registering the vehicle cost when it comes into the state. I had a look on the DIER website yesterday, and could only come up with a total cost of around $600-$700, is this totally wrong.

Also, what are people paying for fully comp insurance? I planned on going with shannons, and am over 25 with a rating 1...unfortunately their online quoting thingy is terrible.

I'm still not totally convinced in settling for an R32 either...the 33's are a lot more refined in the styling dep't + the advantage of having a 'newer' car.

There are a few examples in Vic that seem to be worth a look, and if the only added cost is the trip back on the spirit (bugger all), inspection costs and rego (hopefully not too much), it might be the more viable option.

On top of the actual registration you have stamp duty, I cant remember how much it is, something like 10%?

If the car is not already registered on the mainland, you can get a non registered permit from service tas for like $40. This allows you to drive your car from where it is, to where ever in Tas, to get inspected and then registered.

Without this unregistered permit, you are unable to get your car insured until it is registered.

Ive heard of some guy who had bought an R34, didn't do this, was going to get insurance the next day and had an accident, car was a write off...

Insurance, I'm with Just Car, and pay nearly $900. I'm under 25, so it could be less for you.

Just Car have a really good insurance quoting system on their website, so check it out.

Well, with reagard to the rego, i payed about... 600-700 (something like that) and the stamp duty was on top of that. (cant remember exactly). With the insurance it depends a lot on what you want the car valued at. Mine is valued at $12k-$13k through shannons and i pay (full comp) $800 something (low eight hundereds) they are really good on the phone. Most of the people are interested in cars, that work there. One thing is, that if the car has not been registered for more than 3 months you will have to supply them with photos of the car from all 4 corners and engine bay and inside front, back and boot. So that they are happy that the car isnt crashed before yiou insure it.

Hope that this helps some. If you have any specific questions feel free to give me a pm

>_<

Thanks for your info guys...it all helps!

I've just recived a quote for fully comp from Just Cars. Now, it says in bold writing at the top of the page $740...however when you look down the page at the excesses it says $400 for stadard? and plus vehicle is $1000. Does that mean my total annual insurance is $2140 based on a value of $14k...thats more than 10% of the agreed value, thats just insane!

No the excesses are what you have to pay if you have an accident or your car gets stolen, before they fix it.

If your car is a write off in any event, they will deduct this amount from the total you get back.

"The initial payment should be around $8,900 for the FOB price, plus $1,000 for our service fee - other payments would not be due until after the vehicle arrives in Australia."

I think you're on drugs!

lol

It's not canada.

her u go

but yeah i think i'm on drugs

Its under negotiation from there other yard i would say. It links to the CA site because thats where the pics are.

Reason for price being cheap is that 4wd has been disabled (i would say front drive shaft removed) and its missing a GTR badge :)

i see the one here in deloraine a fair bit. I work out there. it gets a fair caining. I think that it goes alright, i have only spoken to the owner once, i was pretty pissed and cant remember much, but yeah, if that is what you are after, check it out. I think it lives on West Godderick street in deloraine. (i think that is how u spell the street name.

I would ask about service history though coz i have seen it sideways a couple of times :)

Again i will say to make sure that you do your "homework"if going through an importer.

There are some very reputable ones out there but there are also the "dodgy" ones that wont blink twice with taking your hard earned cash and screwing you over :P

    • Hi from Canada, Both of my calipers are starting to fail. My car is a 2005 M35 Stagea ARX and I can't seem to find any parts or any cross reference caliper that would fit my car. Is there a company or a similar caliper that would fit and I could replace the OEM one. Or if anyone knows where I can find a new OEM. Any help is very appreciated. Let me know!
    • Maf is a question mark but TPS  I have set at 0.47, the fact that I’m getting proper voltage range out of it with the key on leads me to believe it’s functioning properly. I’m getting proper voltages on basically everything. I still need to look up voltage ranges for z32 maf and test that
    • Honestly no not at all, but it’s a very basic tune, it’s stock injectors q45 tps and z32 maf. Other than that it’s a completely stock base map. The file is from nistune and from my understanding if it was tune related I would be able to unplug maf and tps and it would still start even if it was a really shitty start. I have tried starting it with coolant temp, maf, and tps unplugged none of those 3 togethor or individually changes anything

    • What does it look like with highway driving? And yes, I had a similar thought as Duncan. It looks quite similar in my Stagea and I have made myself accept it as normal. Might have to look into it some day   Highway gets as low as 10l/100km on my end so I'm not as worried about it being a mechanical issue. More likely just the tune on the haltech.
