Ahh another local boy that visits this forum.... I'm loving it.

Sales Rep for two companies 1 being food the other Hair care

Have been doing his job for over 7 years and is possibly the best job any car enthusiest could have as I get to drive my car all day every day around the South west and get paid for it (klm rate and hourly) and the real kicker is that any car mods done to the car is tax deductable :)

ohh and I have a young family 2 girls 11 and 8years old

but I am getting tired of all the driving at the moment and I am doing over 55hours a week

Well I will wade in on this one.

I also freelance as a music composer/ sound designer for dance and theatre shows and I freelance as an audio post-production engineer and a sound engineer. I've been a professional sound engineer for 9 years mixing bands, tv, film, and producing dance tunes.

I would really like to run a bar - my own bar. :)

In my spare time I drive my Skyline or play World of Warcraft.

My name is Scott and I'm a mechanical technican working for a Ford dealership in Wangara (NuFord). I specialise in suspension, braking and XR6 Turbo's. I work during the week and then do services/repairs on my mates cars on weekends. My job leads me where my heart lies and not by how much I get paid or plan to get paid. I spend the majority of my time researching into the different characteristics of cars, how they work, why they work and what can be changed to make them better. I'm always out trying something new and not intimidated by the difficulty of a project and other people's opinon's.

Lets say I chose my career in a different manner to most people. I finished year 12 after a difficult year of TEE and had a choice to make. Go to university and do something I was good at and end up with hopefully a decent high paying job or 'supposidly' downgrade myself and get involved in the motor industry to help develop my knowledge of cars. I went against the views of other people and got involved doing an apprenticeship. At the moment it is going great, I enjoy going to work everyday and would jump at any chance possibly to get involved in the vehicle peformance industry *hinting at glen and ken from hyperdrive lol*.

The point being a job is not a job if you love it.

I'll come down for a car cruise one weekend (maybe this sunday) if I get the chance and introduce myself.

Cheers,

As for digging holes for more money - Yeah probably. But really, I know i'd much rather be sitting at my desk all day than running around like a tradesmen site-to-site doing manual labour! Blech!

i sell tools + supplies to the previously mentioned hole diggers ;)

i think its quite evident as to what my name is..

but yes.. i work at reece plumbing supplies in ossy park, currently as front counter sales, but assistant manager has been put forward to happen in the next 12-18 months (currently training in '2IC duties' ie. bulk amounts of paperwork -_-)

the job is actually alot better than it sounds, simply because the people i work with are a great bunch, and alot of the trade customers that i have become to know over the past 6 months being in the job (13 months if you count doing the same job, but in geraldton) are a good laugh, not to mention giving the new apprentices shit (not literally :)) :D

and a part time brick paver!

Oh crap, when will you young kids learn that just because you goto uni you'll jump straight into a 60k job! Get real! It ain't gonna happen, you'll still be a 21-22yo with NO real world experience. You'd be lucky to start off as a helpdesk jockey on 28k/year!

*Reality check pls!*

Good on you Strich9 :)

"Life sucks get a helmet"

I'm still confused. If you're earning 60k now and you used to earn at least 100, then why complain about being in IT?

And I know plenty of people earning at least 100k in IT so it's not that bad an industry?

cause if you used to earn 100$ an hour , it can be tough to get motivated for a job paying 60k per year .

there are people earning 100k per year in perth but not many , an no where near what there was .

im working at a major wa government dept at the moment and the CIO , the big kahuna of all IT gets 85k . so you can imagine what the helpdesk guys are getting

I once worked for the macqaurie bank and the helpdesk guys got 50$ an hour .

arkon,

On the contrary mate - IT is still in a climb, not a decline! The techie services and computer hardware is definitely on the way down again, I mean look at all the uni chumps that charge $20/hour to fix your computer. Decent money for them, but that said they may only work 5-6 "real" hours a week. Hence thier shit wage.

I started in IT when I was 18, and now my wage has almost tripled from back then. That said I'm no longer a "consultant" and now a manager and have my own staff. That's where the money is. I fork out bulk $$$ in software development costs just to keep our company moving forward with the rapid changes.

And sure, you can go earn $80-$100/hour contracting in the eastern states for your time, but hell that's the only benefit of 3-6month contracts! Perth pays a LOT less for IT work over here - that's proven itself time and time again. I have more than enough cash to survive, play with my car and party hard so that keeps me happy.

As for digging holes for more money - Yeah probably. But really, I know i'd much rather be sitting at my desk all day than running around like a tradesmen site-to-site doing manual labour! Blech!

its cool that youve landed a good spot in it . i hope its secure . my advice is dont leave , cause you probably wont get anywhere near what your getting now in the open market , even for it project managers or technical service managers .

it is on the decline , its a fact . wages are down , demand is down across the board globally . now and then there are small surges up for particular skills or at a particular time but the longterm trend over 5 or more years is down . and that will only continue for most areas of IT . you might be ok earning pre it boom wages , but for the majority of people comming into IT that wont be the case

if your happy coming into IT now working up to 50k then go for it , its still ok 40-50-60k or whatever its not a bad living . but rember that it is a declining industry and the nature of globalisation and the simplification of technology will reduce the costs and technical requirements of IT in the future so keep that in mind for your long term plans .

Oh crap, when will you young kids learn that just because you goto uni you'll jump straight into a 60k job! Get real! It ain't gonna happen, you'll still be a 21-22yo with NO real world experience. You'd be lucky to start off as a helpdesk jockey on 28k/year!

*Reality check pls!*

dude, i already knew that. thanks anyway. and chances are i WILL be a helpdesk jockey earning probably less than 28k anyway. high hopes i have :)

cause if you used to earn 100$ an hour , it can be tough to get motivated for a job paying 60k per year .

Totally agree, but what I'm saying is .... why then stick with the 60k job ?

Why not go back to digging holes and earn more ?

WOW! i read all this thread and relise all my fellow liner's are all decent and worthy ppl to have such nice cars.

    • Maf is a question mark but TPS  I have set at 0.47, the fact that I’m getting proper voltage range out of it with the key on leads me to believe it’s functioning properly. I’m getting proper voltages on basically everything. I still need to look up voltage ranges for z32 maf and test that
    • Honestly no not at all, but it’s a very basic tune, it’s stock injectors q45 tps and z32 maf. Other than that it’s a completely stock base map. The file is from nistune and from my understanding if it was tune related I would be able to unplug maf and tps and it would still start even if it was a really shitty start. I have tried starting it with coolant temp, maf, and tps unplugged none of those 3 togethor or individually changes anything

    • What does it look like with highway driving? And yes, I had a similar thought as Duncan. It looks quite similar in my Stagea and I have made myself accept it as normal. Might have to look into it some day   Highway gets as low as 10l/100km on my end so I'm not as worried about it being a mechanical issue. More likely just the tune on the haltech.
    • While I was waiting for the new parts to come in for the charge pipe and radiator I decided to do some turbo modification. The drive pressure (exhaust backpressure) was a lot higher that I thought it should be. For 32lbs of boost drive was 55lbs. The turbine housing is a 1.10AR and my turbo builder has suggested to go to a 1.25AR. To test if a larger AR would do anything to reduce drive pressure AND not spend any money I decided to hog out the divider in my current housing. I removed it from the inlet and the whole way through the housing.  After reassembly and testing it doesn't look like this modification did anything for reducing drive pressure or requiring more fuel (making more power). Oh well, it was worth a shot. We'll get some data at the track if it makes it past the 60ft. I also machined a $7 shift knob off Amazon to fit my Stillway shifter since I didn't like the Stillway shift knob. Next on the list was the radiator replacement and fabrication of a new intercooler tube that had no silicon coupler. No pictures of this - I was short on time each night after work to get this done and didn't stop to take pictures.  Next was to get the clutch disks out and replaced. Previously when installing the dogbox I had ordered a set of the same sintered iron disks I had been running because I switched to the 26-spline input shaft. I thought it was odd that they didn't have any markings or brand name on them like all my old disks had but installed them anyway. At the track I could not get the clutch to lock up using my normal strategies. After two track nights I reached out to the clutch manufacturer and ask their thoughts. They said they had to switch the material out because they were having trouble getting the original material and that this new material would not take to being slipped very well.  So out with the first set of 26-spline disks and in with the correct material 26-spline disks. While I had the trans out I added an inspection/service hole. I've wanted one of these for a while. Now I can have a look at things and change the front cover shimming when needed (clutch wear). I hustled and got the clutch change done in a few hours on a Saturday. Hopped in the car and drove home. On the way home I did a 1-3 pull. When shifting from 2nd to 3rd the core plug in the back of the cylinder head popped out and dumped all the coolant. Thankfully I was only 30 seconds from home and coasted it there. Datalog showed nothing unusual and 2.5psi of coolant pressure. That plug has been in there since 1992 but I guess it worked its way out. Pulled the trans AGAIN and replaced the plug, JB welded it in, and made a brace. Also deleted the head drain I had added in during the bearing issue fiasco.  I am currently changing my boost control plumbing to make it cleaner. After that is done I'll make another attempt at getting past the 60.
