hey all

i am going to drop a RB25DET into my R32 GTS4

i guess i have to put a R33 RB25DET ecu and loom in but,

(i know this may sound stupid) will the RB25DET engine bolt up to the GTS4 gearbox?

also with the wiring loom, will everything connect up?

is it a straight forward engine swap?

any info would be sweet

thanks

chris

Not sure about the R32, but i assume it would be the same as the R33.

It is not just a straight swap. Since the GTS4 has front wheels that also drive, the oil sump is a different shape in the GTS4's RB25DE. This means that only another RB25DE from a GTS4 or an RB26 will do. You can turbo your DE, but I agree, an engine swap would be better. Bit of mucking around, but good luck. :)

You can get a RB25DET that will drop straight in from a Stagea. I'm not 100% sure, but I think they made some turbo 4 wheel drive Stagea's, but they are very rare.

Not too sure on the rest of the details. I think there may be more to it than just the oil sump anyway. Might have to wait for one of the experts to answer. :)

I've got an R33 GTS and I'm doing the same swap. I don't have the all wheel drive issue though, so I'm not sure on all the details.

would it be easier to convert my R32 GTS4 to RB26DETT than a RB25DET?

plus would i really need a complete 4WD stagea front cut to complete a RB25DET conversion to a R32 GTS4?

what parts are needed out of the front cut?

  • 1 year later...

I just got my RB25DET (series 2) and I was hoping you could help me with some questions.

My Skyline is non turbo so it will be a big step with the RB25.

Now then, my first question is about the gearbox mounts, I hear they aren't the same and I will also have problems with the speedo meter. What do you know about this? Can I use the Xmember of the R33 ??

The second is about the harness, everyone that has ever swapped an engine told me that the harness is the most difficult part of the swap. Do you have the diagram of the R32 and the R33 (still can't find it for the R32) and some pointers on how this is done??

Hope to get a reply from you soon

    • It is a kunfine Android screen . Does anyone know the wirering diagram of the fuga ??
    • just an update to this, poor man pays twice  Tried sanding down the pulleys but it didnt do the trick. Chucked another second hand alternator in the na car which I got for free off my mate and its fixed the squelling. Must have been unlucky with the bearings.    As for my turbo car, I managed to pick up a cwc rb alternator conversion bracket + LS alternator for 250 off marketplace, looked to be in really good nick. Installed it , started the car and its not charging the battery.... ( Im not good with auto elec stuff so im not sure if this was all I needed to do but I verified such by using a multimeter on the battery when the engine was running and I was only getting 12.2v )   I had to modify the earth strap for the new LS alternator , factory earth strap was a 10mm bolt which did not fit the bolt on the LS alternator which was double the size so I cut it off , went to repco bought some ring terminals that fit, crimped it onto the old earth strap and bolted it up to the alternator , started the car and same issue. Ran like shit and was reading 12.2 at the battery.  For a "plug and play" advertised kit thats not very plug and play but alas.  My question is , am I missing something ? Ive been reading that some people recommend upgrading the stock 80 amp alternator fuse to a 140 amp but I dont see how that would stop the alternator charging especially at idle not under load.  Regardless ive pulled it out and am going to get it bench tested by an auto elec tomorrow but it would be handy to know if ive missed something silly or have done something wrong.
    • My wild guess is that you have popped off an intake pipe....check all of the hoses between the turbo and the throttle for splits or loose clamps.
    • Awesome, thanks for sharing!
    • To provide more specific help, more information is needed. What Android screen? What is its wiring diagram? Does the car's wiring have power at any required BAT and ACC wires, and is the loom's earth good?
