Well the plot thickens with this car... Driving today and it started misfiring and losing mass power, not just misfiring on one cylinder but totally dropping 1-2k rpm before giving me a few more splutters then dropping power again. Nursed it home (problems seem related to heat/load).

At this point I was thinking bad plugs/coil pack(s) or fuel pump perhaps. Got home let it cool down and and removed the coil cover and found that the car has Split Fire coils and NGK Iriway plugs, plugs seemed in good condition, no carbon build up, nothing cracked/broken etc etc.

So Im thinking, could it be the ignition module (Took this out of the car and cooled it down and drove again with no issues til everything was hot again) Or something timing related? (whatever it is related to heat/load for sure) or as mentioned, a fuel pump issue?

Here's some pics to help.

The Impul unit does not have diagnostic LED's on it at all =\ I took it apart completely and took soem photos of the EPROM if that's of any use.

hey would say it is the coil packs are breaking down when they get hot so they would only run on a few cils. Happen to mine yesterday, soon as i let it cool down. start it again and runs fine untill it gets hot again am getting new coil packs that will fix my problem could be the same as mine :P

Tacho just starts dropping as if the engine has stalled then fires a few more times so if I was at say 3k rpm I'd get nothing from the engine for another 2k rpm then it would fire a few more times etc. If I clutch in and let it try and idle it'll bounce between like 20 and 1100rpm lik it only just fires in time to keep the engine running. It's not a hunt though like the famous AAC Valve issue on GTS25T's it simply just doesn't fire.

Any idea what an ignition module is worth?

I think i might possibly have the only R33 GTR around this area =D There 'might' be one more but I don't know the guy. There's a really good mechanic out of town who apparently races GTR's I'm trying to get in touch with him for some assistance. Might get the car into tuning shop or Nissan tomorrow to see if they can give me an error code.

Dude get this hting checked i had this issue last week and im running big power. my CAS was on its way out, and its f**king scary when your pride joy and big parts of you savings start to sputter and drop revs. i looked like a coil related problem but when i swapped my coild to a mate's RB 26 they fires correctly, after that i tried my ignitor, same agian, bu when i checked my CAS it was shot. it didnt give the correct signal, have it checked before smth worse happens

The one stuck to the side of the radiator? Will try it but my car is totoally not firing for a few thousand RPM before it will fire again, it's not just missing on one.

Trying another Ignition module tonight.

Fingers Crossed.

I had a similiar problem until I got my timing belt replaced and done 100,000km service to replace all the platinum plugs with new ones and got new coils, plus had the fuel rails cleaned.

If your in Vic Garry Rogers Nissan in Glen Waverly still service GTR's and they work on my r33 for stock stuff.

I have some new plugs on the way - I have split fire coils and I have access to some new coils I can try out. Will try that if the ignition module doesn't work.

When your timing belt was changed was the CAS touched?

Cheers

    • Absolute f*cking nightmare. I had to take breaks constantly, and I was always pissed off when I got home. The line split in Italy on day 2 (we drove from the Netherlands), lol. Driving any narrow European town was... well, sh*t.   Appreciate it man. Here, I'll just drop a favourite from the load I took on Saturday.   I'll update here when things happen with the car, the thing is, with stock power and almost everything chassis-wise taken care of, there really are no problems. 268,000kms now and counting.
    • Ah! I actually managed to snag a lightly used set.... that aren't so suitable for me right now. They don't work on a GTT without some cutting or creative heat moulding. I thought about reselling them myself cause I didn't want to murder them, but it looks like I'm probably going to attempt to murder them/melt them because I may as well. @GTSBoy @PranK can somebody close this thread?
    • Hey mate,  I have a set, one is slightly damaged but wont be noticable once installed.  Shoot me a message if your still after them
    • I couldn't wait But, the black constant tension hose clamps were too thick and there wasn't enough clearance at the T/B and I couldn't get it to seat properly, so I had use a silver one there I also added some 3" silicone over the alloy bit that goes through to hole on the radiator support as it looked like it was sitting on the edge of the hole in the radiator support, I never noticed a rattle or anything, but there was a witness mark It is basicly done, and I can live with the silver hose clamp at the T/B, I will get a black clamp for the head vent though where it is attached to the bulkhead fitting  It never stops...LOL, only issue now with the shock tower brace is it slightly touches the under bonnet liner now, if I leave it it will either wear some paint off the brace where it touches, or damage the liner, so I removed the liner to see what I have to work with, with the liner removed I have about 20mm of clearance, but sadly the middle part of the underside of the bonnet is only dusted with paint and looks crap, so I cannot have that, but.... as I have a roll of Carbuilders premium under bonnet insulation in the garage laying around that is only 5.5mm thick (we were going to use it on the boys Patrol, but he crashed the front of it a few months and it was written off, hence why he now drives my old Honda Accord Euro), I'll use the OEM liner as a template and get the Carbuilders stuff fitted up to cover that dusted paint up
