FOR A man determined to remain a mystery, Tim Johnston makes some contradictory moves.

Over a series of remarkable weeks in November, the chairman of the little-known Perth-based fuel technology company Firepower was revealed as the main sponsor of the South Sydney Rabbitohs.

The reported $3 million deal was unveiled by the Rabbitohs' part-owner Russell Crowe - on Jay Leno's American Tonight show. The ink had barely dried on that when Firepower said it would also be throwing its financial clout behind the Sydney Kings basketball team, which changed its name to the Firepower Sydney Kings. Days later, Johnston bought the Kings.

In three smooth steps, Johnston had thrust deep into the Australian sporting scene. He went from zero to hero in a world that rarely asks too many questions as long as you have the answer when they throw out the challenge that matters most. It's the Jerry Maguire test: "Show me the money!"

And therein lies the real mystery of Tim Johnston and Firepower. Just how does the company make its money, and are its eye-popping business deals all that they appear? Firepower has been the beneficiary of enthusiastic Federal Government support in its push overseas, but there are questions over how much Australian agencies know about the company they support and the products it promotes. And those products - bits of fuel-technology wizardry, including a pill to improve vehicle efficiency and reduce pollution - may be the biggest Firepower mystery of all. Have they been properly tested, do they work, how many are sold, and who is using them?

It just goes to show how stupid some car owners are if companies that produce those "fuel saving pills" can not only stay solvent, but make enough money to buy big sports teams.

The fact that the guy works through shell companies, has arrangements with arms dealers and possible ex-KGB money launderers, is really unsurprising. Anyone selling that fuel pill snake oil isn't exactly over endowed with principle.

I seriously need to invent something that does absolutely nothing but promises the world, so I can make a crapload of money.

Then start a:

- Penis Enlargement Company

- Hair Regrowth Company

- Anti-Ageing Cosmetics Company

And you'll be 3 times as rich as Firepower  I give him credit, if he is smart enough to run a sham company make millions launder it using ex-KGB agents while sucking funding from the federal government, power too the man...

He's gotta have brains to pull it off and not be behind bars, and the government are bigger crooks than he will ever be so meh, good on him.

    • Yea - I mean I've seen my fuel pump which is decades old and uh, while I'm not saying this with real knowledge... but I sure get the ick at using anything in the fuel system that produced the state of that pump. Many years ago I went through multiple pumps (and strainers) before I dropped the tank to clean it out with extreme violence. I'm talking the car would do maybe 50km before coming to a halt, which resulted in me cleaning out the filter with some brake cleaner and going on my way. None of my stuff ever looked like what came out of your fuel tank. I don't think I'd be happy with it unless every single component was replaced (or at least checked/cleaned/confirmed to be clean here).
    • I'm not going to recommend an EBC pad. I don't like them. Just about anything else would suit me better. I've been using Intima pads for a while now.
    • Agreed, and in particular the earth strap that should go from the subframe to the chassis but it often broken or left off. There is a section in the R32 workshop manual you can follow for troubleshooting if you don't see anything suspicious, and depending where you are (there is no location on your user profile) you should be able to get your hands on a second hand replacement unit still if needed
    • Yeah they mention as a R34 for 2.5 Turbo...but then again thos "small" were also for R34 by that different site. But i look into it and that 310mm EBC is for R34 GTT. And by those you linked the specs are the same 🙂    EDIT: I found these on one site here: DBA 4000 series T3 DBA42304S They are 310mm...and it says are for R34GTT...are there good? EDIT2: ok they have pads too.  What "color" should i get for street use? I dont want/need some noisy ones...(and if they are not that dusty that is good too)
    • Yeah, shame. Maybe  driver's carpet is available 🙏. I am waiting for both amayama and nangun to confirm.
