I have just got off the phone with Glenn Suckling. He's not a member of this forum and has asked me to post the following on his behalf.

Glenn regrets to advise you all that Mag And Turbo Warehouse / GDS Motorsports Nissan Skyline GT-R will not be attending the forthcoming HKS Import All-Stars Meet scheduled for Saturday the 17th of February. As you know, there has been discussion and rumour here about Glenn appearing at this event to race against Heat Treatments in place of the HKS Skyline.

Glenn has been faced with a very tough decision to make. Many of you will not be aware that the previous weekend (10th and 11th) is the NZDRA Nationals at Champion Dragway, and that Glenn had entered and committed to this event some months back.

Glenn is running on a very limited campaign budget this season and has had to choose carefully the events best suited to the car and sponsorship requirements. He works full-time and the Skyline development work takes place after hours on his own time.

Glenn and his team have decided that the best opportunity to run the Skyline on full power in an attempt to crack a 7-second pass this year is the fully prepped track offered by Champion, with plenty of rubber laid down by the V8-based drag slicks of the 6, 7 and 8-second cars, on a known track and conditions. He has been working towards this event all season as the "big one" for his team, together with other limited appearances (including the 4 and Rotor Nationals).

The turn-around time of only one week between events (remembering that the NZDRA Nationals start qualifying on the Saturday and racing on the Sunday) just doesn't give sufficient margin for error if he breaks something or strikes problems during the meet. A two-week gap could be done but as most in the Pro game will tell you, if you're under pressure with breakages, you need all the time you can get, and a five-day window when (a) you work full-time during the week and (b) you do pretty much all your own work on the car just puts too much out to chance that you won't get it repaired in time. A one-week window puts pressure on Glenn to turn the car around and prep it again for Taupo, even assuming it runs with reliability the weekend before, not to mention financial pressure to run an additional event over and above his season budget.

In a Hobson's choice scenario, in discussions with all concerned, Glenn has decided to stay with his original plan and run at the Champion event. All of us involved as friends and sponsors of Glenn are obviously sad he can't do both, but we understand and wholeheartedly agree his decision is the right one under the circumstances.

Yes, appearance money was discussed, but no, this isn't a factor in Glenn's decision. It's just too close to the event offering his best chance to run a 7-second pass this year, and with his budget and pressure to get there, I for one applaud his clear thinking and game plan to reach his goal.

Glenn, the GDS Motorsports Team and sponsors wish the Import All Stars meet the very best and encourage you all to still attend despite the absence of the HKS car running- New Zealand can field a world-class standard of Import Racing and with the list of confirmed racers so far it promises to be a great day out.

-Thanks, I've posted this up for Glenn as quickly as I can to avoid any further speculation.

what an anti-climax. I read the link posted and thought. kudos to HKS for having a crack, and to the organisers for making it happen. there will be a lot of pissed off people it's not going to eventuate.

that really sucks they wont refund your ticket paul. i mean you bought a ticket to watch HKS race Heat Treatments and now that it's off I would think a refund only fair. especially since they sat on the press release for 4 days (no doubt getting good ticket sales in the mean time).

Looks like Stace and I will have a nice NZ holiday...and a visit to the track thrown in...ahh well "thats racing"

  • 3 weeks later...
AND the after party - don't forget to make a sexy time for all of us! :)

Had a fu(king unreal time....these sheep fu(kers really know how to run their racing....Pro cars heads up and sportsman classes indexed in 1 sec. brackets side by racing all day....no jumping on brakes backing off etc. This is the sort of racing that puts bums on seats, is great for spectators and makes great TV viewing.Cars like front wheel drive 10sec Civics racing 10 sec GTR's etc...something you will never see here with our antiquated dinosaur rule book stolen off the septics in Yankland.

other than Top Fuel, the best race meet ive ever attended.

and yes 2rismo the after party was a cracker !!

DVD of event and after party will be available soon through Infinity Entertainment (Ignition DVD)

here's a pic displaying how popular the events are over here....full stands...aussie promoters take note here.

except Jambo our events are poorly attended.

Dial yor own should only be used when ordering pizza...not racing cars

Reece McGregor did a NZ pb of 7.77 and backed it up next run with a 7.78

some news about Reeces runs...

Heat Treatments GTR

The HT team didn't really expect to break any records at taupo. Despite this, the car still ran a solid 7.7, and then a 7.8. The 7.7 pass should have been quicker, as the car crept on the line and red lit before Reece actually launched (the timer starts from when the beam is broken). The next pass was looking great, with a PB mph to half track (152mph!!), but unfotunately the front diff broke in the 2nd half of the track. Becuase the front diff is integral with the sump, it also cracked this part, putting the car out of action for the afternoon.

Apparently the HKS ride isn't safe any more. I dunno, it looks fine to me :)

Heaps of guys that are in the HKS circle and the company very well say the exact opposite and have been for the past couple of years.

    • But first....while I was there, I also swapped across the centre console box for the other style where the AV inputs don't intrude into the (very limited !) space.  Part# was 96926-4GA0A, 284H3-4GA0B, 284H3-4GA0A. (I've already swapped the top 12v socket for a USB bulkhead in this pic, it fit the hole without modification:) Basically to do the console you need to remove the DS and PS side console trim (they slide up and back, held in by clips only) Then remove the back half of the console top trim with the cupholders, pops up, all clips again but be careful at the front as it is pretty flimsy. Then slide the shifter boot down, remove the spring clip, loose it forever somewhere in the car the pull the shift knob off. Remove the tiny plastic piece on DS near "P" and use something thin and long (most screwdrivers won't fit) to push down the interlock and put the shifter down in D for space. There is one screw at the front, then the shifter surround and ashtray lift up. There are 3 or 4 plugs underneath and it is off. Next is the rear cover of the centre console; you need to open the console lid, pop off the trim covering the lid hinge and undo the 2rd screw from the driver's side (the rest all need to come out later so you can do them all now and remove the lid) Then the rear cover unclips (6 clips), start at the top with a trim tool pulling backwards. Once it is off there are 2 screws facing rearwards to remove (need a short phillips for these) and you are done with the rear of the console. There are 4 plugs at the A/V box to unclip Then there are 2 screws at the front of the console, and 2 clips (pull up and back) and the console will come out.
    • So, a bit of a side trip, but one that might be interesting for people with JDM cars and japanese head units. I know @Pac previously posted about a carplay/android auto adapter he installed which used the AUX input, and @V35_Paul put in one of the Tesla style units that replace both screens. The option I went with was a Lsait LLT-YF-VER5.87_2 (https://www.alibaba.com/product-detail/Lsailt-8GB-Android-Multimedia-Interface-for_1601187633672.html). Price was $1,150 for a single unit although they are much cheaper if you are willing to buy 2....$857ea. Make you you get the version 2 not version 1, it is faster and has a better UI - this is the manufacturer listing: http://www.lsailt.com/product/348.html. BTW if you've never bought from Alibaba before, don't be concerned....these guys can't stay in business unless they are responsive, ship fast etc, they were excellent (probably faster shipping than most local places) So, this was my task for a lazy Sat afternoon....looks complex but was all done in a few hours (it probably helps that I had some of it apart before so it was a bit familiar). I also decided to add a HD USB drive recorded at the same time and the unit also supports an aftermarket reverse cam (if you don't want to retain factory) and also AV in and HDMI out It looks much worse than it is, in fact in was genuinely all plug and play (no custom wiring at all). This video was pretty good (skipped a few steps), unfortunately they are an Aussie seller but no longer sell this unit (I guess Carplay/AA adapters are easier to install and much cheaper) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T5hJfYOB8Dg
    • That still isn't a lot to go on. I don't have a Y50 Fuga Head Unit wiring diagram. I can say that a lot of nissans of that age shared head unit plugs, so if you are in Australia something like this would probably help: https://aerpro.com/app091# You plug that into the car loom, then either plug the head unit ISO into that (if it has ISO), or you buy and ISO adapter harness that you wire in. Bit of stuffing around, but once you have ISO its easy to change things in future.
    • It is a kunfine Android screen . Does anyone know the wirering diagram of the fuga ??
    • just an update to this, poor man pays twice  Tried sanding down the pulleys but it didnt do the trick. Chucked another second hand alternator in the na car which I got for free off my mate and its fixed the squelling. Must have been unlucky with the bearings.    As for my turbo car, I managed to pick up a cwc rb alternator conversion bracket + LS alternator for 250 off marketplace, looked to be in really good nick. Installed it , started the car and its not charging the battery.... ( Im not good with auto elec stuff so im not sure if this was all I needed to do but I verified such by using a multimeter on the battery when the engine was running and I was only getting 12.2v )   I had to modify the earth strap for the new LS alternator , factory earth strap was a 10mm bolt which did not fit the bolt on the LS alternator which was double the size so I cut it off , went to repco bought some ring terminals that fit, crimped it onto the old earth strap and bolted it up to the alternator , started the car and same issue. Ran like shit and was reading 12.2 at the battery.  For a "plug and play" advertised kit thats not very plug and play but alas.  My question is , am I missing something ? Ive been reading that some people recommend upgrading the stock 80 amp alternator fuse to a 140 amp but I dont see how that would stop the alternator charging especially at idle not under load.  Regardless ive pulled it out and am going to get it bench tested by an auto elec tomorrow but it would be handy to know if ive missed something silly or have done something wrong.
